  • 3FROM BADAUN TO BAGHDAD(A short-livedjourney of a Martyr)

TAMHEED (A brief introduction)Shaikh Usaidul Haqs life and his work is an enormously vast

subject. I dont consider myself capable enough of writing abiography of such a legendary personality and my mind is alsonot in a steady state to pen down anything, because, the fact thathe has left us has still not sunk in. Although, I bathed his body, performed his salatul Janaza, and eventually buried him, it stillfeels like he is sitting in the Library, perusing some book andwriting his views on that book or writing an article on a neweditorial from Jaam-e-Noor OR if he is free from the books, thenprobably he would be talking to Maulana Khushtar Noorani orDr. Ahmed Mujtaba Siddique on the phone, but the reality issomething else. Now that he is not present amongst us, it isdifficult for me(someone who is less educated) to rejuvenate hismemories.

Habitually, every time the pen makes me write MaddaZilluhu and Zeeda Majduhuafter Shaikh Saahabs name. Nowto erase that and write Rehmatullahi Alaih is not encouragingfor me. The Journey from Madda Zillahu to RehmatullahiAlaih is repressed in so many tears that the one who was alwaysreferred as a heartthrob and beloved cannot outline the journey.Anyway, after repeated requests from our dear and beloved,Maulana Khushtar Noorani, I am going to present some brieffacts of Shaikhs life to you in this excerpt, as advised by MaulanaKhushtar Noorani.

When hadnt even thought that nature (Qudrat) has bestowedShaikh Saahabs (Alaihir-rahma) simple life with so many colors,

  • 4a young man with a simple dress and a white cap had so manycolorful aspects to himself and that I realize now, when I arewriting about him.Shaikh Saahabs (Alaihir-rahma) life projectsa wealth of knowledge and dissemination of knowledge to themasses. The enthusiasm with which he acquiredabundantknowledge, in a similar way he didnt just conveythe knowledgebut also ensured comprehensive dissemination of knowledge tothe masses. My beloved teacher, Imam e Ilm-o-Fun, HazratKhwaja Muzaffar Hussain (Alaihir-rahma) used to say this,Zeenat hona kuch aur hain, aur Haq adaa karna aur (To bethe beauty of some work is something else and to master thatwork is something else). He used give an example that in afunction, the beauty of the stage/podium is held by one; but thefunction is prosperous because of someone else.

Shaikh Saahabs (Alaihir-rahma) Islamic works (Tehreer) hadattained a very high degree at a young age. His work was spokenabout everywhere and scholars with an eye to detail used to alwaysappreciate his work.

Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir-rahma), in his life span of 38 yearsand 10 months did many things right from teaching, Tasneef andTaaleef, Hajj and Umrah, visit to the holy places around the world,he went around the whole of India in search for books and libraries, mainly for the others after him so that they dont face any problemsin acquiring enough knowledge. He was not just a great Muhaqqiqbut also a Sufi. He was extremely generous and he had inheritedthis generosity (Sakhaawat) from his great grandfather AmeerulMomineen Sayyedana Usman Ibne Affaan (RadiallahuAnhu). Most of his journey was spent in participating in Islamicseminars and symposiums, delivery of lectures on various Islamictopics, and as a judge of various competitions held in differentIslamic schools and universities.

To spread the knowledge and discipline of Islam and help thesociety with their various needs (Khidmat-e-Khalq), ShaikhSaahab has set up various institutes namely Al-Azhar Institute ofIslamic Studies, Al-Azhar Educational Human Welfare Societyand Al-Azhar Foundation (Maharashtra).

  • 5In spite of attaining such a high repute in the society, he wasnever egoistic and conceited of his work. He was always groundedand respectful. He used to always visit the Dargahs (Shrines of aSaint)with a lot of faith and respect. Especially at the Dargah ofShams-e-Marehra, Abul Fazl Aale Ahmed Huzoor Achche Miya(Alaihir-rahma) of Marehra Shareef, he used to be extremely politeand disciplined. In relation to Shams-e-Marehra (Alaihir-rahma)He used to often mention the poetry (Sher) of Ghalib during hispublic speech.

Zikr us pariwash ka, aur phir bayaan apnaI (the writer of this content) am Shaikh Saahabs brother, his

student and a confidant of his virtues and his secrets. I had theopportunity to be with him during his final journey. My fatherAs-Shah Abdul Hameed Mohammed Salimul Qadri (Sahab-e-Sajjada, Aastana Aaliya Qadriya Badaun Shareef) visits Baghdadevery year and this has been an old custom. This year, Hazratsaid that Shaikh Saahab will also visit along this year. A group of40 visitors reached Baghdad Shareef. We visited the Shrine, andwe didnt even realize how the seven days passed swiftly overthere. All of us returned back and Shaikh Saahab has remainedthere until the Day of Judgment. This is not the time to mentionthe journey in detail, but In Sha Allah, we will try to pen downthe details of this journey some other time. I am not aware of thefundamentals of writing a biography, neither am I a writer. InShaikh Saahabs (Alaihir rahma) presence, we never used to writeanything as he used to do everything. Weve never even written atehreer, and to write down this extreme biography is not easy. Apoet has said that

Is Ishq Ki Talaafi-e-Maafaat DekhnaRoney Ki Hasratein Hain Jab Aansun Nahi Rahen

I know that this biography written by me will be read as:Roney Ke Bhi Aadaab Huwa Karte Hain Faani

Yeh Unki Gali Hai Tera Gham Khaana Nahi haiI gathered the courage to write this after realising that I am

also a part of his team. Presenting to you a short biography of hislife as follows:

Other than the importantrecitals, the Children of Khanqah-e-AaliyaQadriya are taught these two names veryt h o r o u g h l y .(1) Shahenshah-e-Awliya Qutubul Aqtaab Gaus-e-AazamSayyedana Shaikh Abdul Qaadir Jilani (Radiallahu anhu)(2) Gaus-e-Zamaan Shams-e-Marehra Qiblae Jism-o-Jaan FakhreKhandan-e-Barakati Abul Fazl Aale Ahmed Huzoor Achche MiyaSaahab (Radiallahu anhu)Ibtedayi Taaleem (Primary Education)

  • 9Aalam Rizvi and Maulana Infaasul Hasan Chisti.Until the year 1993, Shaikh Saahab studied inMadrasa Aaliya Qadriya. It was very famousabout Khwaja Saahab that he never used to stayin any Madrasa for a long time and it was trueas well. After teaching in Madrasa Aaliya Qadriyafor 2 years (this was Khwaja Saahabs longesttenure until then in any Madrasa), he went toFaizabad from Badaun. After this, my fathersent Shaikh Saahab to Faizabad in order tocomplete the Dars-e-Nizami course under theguidance of Khwaja Saahab.

Visits to Baghdad Shareef have been a key tradition of theKhanqah-e-Aaliya Qadriya Badaun Shareef. The level of positionand respect which this Khanqah holds in Bargah-e-GhauseAazam, we dont see the same for any other places. The relationsbetween Khanqah-e-Qadriya Badaun Shareef and Khanqah-e-Gilaniya Baghdad Shareef have been very strong and exist for avery long time. An extensive article can be written on this subject, but Ill present a few historic facts for the readers.

In 1278 Hijri, Saifullahil Maslool Maulana Shah Fazl-e-Rasool went to Baghdad for the first time. At that time, QutubulAfraad Hazrat Maulana Sayyed Ali Al-Gilani (Quddisa Sirruhu)was the Saheb-e-Sajjada of the Dargah of -Ghaus-e-Aazam. Hegot up from his seat (Masnad-e-Ghausiya) andheld Maulana Shah Fazl-e-Rasools hand and madehim sit next to himself. I dont think anyonemight have got this level of respect in thecourt of Ghaus-e-Aazam. Maulana Fazl-e-Rasoolspent a lot of time in Baghdad Shareef and theSaheb-e-Sajjada also gave him the Khilafat (allthe rights of succession of the Silsila Qadriya)and ordered his son, Sayyed Salman Ghilani totake lessons and the rights of succession fromMaulana Fazl-e-Rasool. In this journey ofSaifullahil Maslool, he became extremely famousin Baghdad due to his extraordinary repute.Due to this reason, in the year 1290 Hijri, when Taajul Fuhool Maulana Shaikh Abdul QadirBaduani visited Baghdad (At this time, SayyedSalman Al-Gilani was the Saheb-e-Sajjada ofBaghdad Shareef), as soon as the Saheb-e-Sajjadasaw Aala Hazrat Tajul Fahool, he immediatelyasked him Anta Ibnu Fazl-e-Rasool?(Means Are you the son of Fazl-e-Rasool?)And thenthey kept talking about Saifullahil Maslool.

Sayyed Salman Al-Gilani read this poetry atthat time.

(Quote in Arabic)Fa inna fazla rasulillahi laisa lahu

Haddun fa yuriba anhu natiqun bi fami(Means The grace of Rasoollah is endless; such that no one candescribe it)After Taajul Fuhool, in the year 1336 Hijri, Sarkar Sahibul IqtidaarMutiurrasool Maulana Abdul Muqtadir Qadri Badauni vistedBaghdad Shareef. As soon as the Naqibul Ashraaf Peer SayyedAbdul Rehman Al-Gilani (The Saheb-e-Sajjada of that time) sawMaulana Abdul Muqtadir, he said Huwa Ashbahu Bi JaddihiFazlir Rasool Lakinna lihyatahu Atwalu Minhu (Means Heis like his grandfather Fazl-e-Rasool, but just that his beard islonger than his grandfathers beard ). After him, Mufti-e-AazamHyderabad, Maulana Abdul Qadeer (Rehmatullahi Taala Alaihi)visited Baghdad Shareef 45 times in his life. (For more details onthis, you can read Tazkar-e-Mehboob- written by MaulanaAbdul Raheem Qadri Badauni Published by Taajul FuhoolAcademy in 2008)Currently, Hazrat-e-Aqdas Huzoor Saheb-e-Sajjada, Aastan-e-Aaliya Qadriya Badaun Shareef has visitedBaghdad Shareef around 50 times so far.Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma) Ka Safar-e-Baghdad (His visits to Baghdad Shareef)

Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir-rahma) visited Baghdad Shareef forthe first time in year 1992/1413 Hijri. Second time in the year1994/1414 Hijri, third time in the year 1996/1417 Hijri, Fourthtime in the year 1999/1420 Hijri and for the fifth time in the year2014/1435 Hijri, (He went for all of these along with his father)and now until the day of Judgement, Shaikh Saahab (Alaihirrahma) is blessed to be in the Bargah-e-Gaus-e-Aazam)

associate with Murshid (Saint of a Sufi order)in order to attain sanctity. Shaikh Saahabs(Alaihir rahma) family has been passing thesanctity which theyve received through Shams-e-Marehra Huzoor Achche Miya & Sayyedana ShaikhAbdul Qaadir Jilaani to the masses for manycenturies that have passed by. Shaikh Saahab(Alaihir rahma) took Baitin the silsila Qadriyaon Thursday, 13 th of November 2008. educational and humanitarian services offeredto masses by the students of Madrasa AaliyaQ a d r i y a .

Shaikh Saahab (Alihir rahma) used to always tell the followersthat he doesnt need any money from them to run the Madrasaand instead used to ask them to send their sons to the Madrasa foreducation. This way, we started educational services started rightfrom the beginning. Shaikh Saahab(Alaihir rahma) used to saythat ,Now the Madrasa hasnt started and the actual Madrasawill start after 8 years, at the moment, I am making my team ofexpert students. When these students will complete their studies, then the inception of Madrasa will commence. Due to this reason, the admission process wasnt announced publicly. Shaikh Saahab(Alaihir rahma) used to accept admissions only for Jamat-e-Aedaadiyaand Oola (Level 1 & 2 classes in the course of anAalim). This way, every year, one batch kept increasing. WhenShaikh Saahab (alaihir rahma) started teaching, at that time onlythe Jamat-e-Aedaadiyaexisted. When these students graduatedto Jamat-e-Oola, then the second batch for Jamat-e-Aedaadiya was hired. Then, the next year, the students fromOolamoved to Saaniya (level 3) and the students fromAedaadiyamoved to Oola. Then again, new entrants startedwith Jamat-e-Aedaadiya. This way, the first batch graduatedin 2011. Along with Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma), MaulanaAnwar Sohail Qadri, Maulana Nabi Raza Qadri, Maulana DilshadAhmed Qadri, Maulana Mujahid Qadri, and Maulana Iqbal Qadriand from the year 2008 I (Maulana Ateef Qadri)performed the duties of a teacher in the Madrasa.

Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma) had made somechanges to the existing syllables ofAalimcourse in the Madrasa, for the Jamat-e-Saaniya,he introduced the book of TaajulFuhool Ehsanul Kalaam Fi Tahqeeq AqaaidulIslam, later I was given the opportunity toteach this book and for the same class the bookMadkhal Ila Usoolul Hadith was also taught.

For the Jamat-e-Raabiya Tafseer Aayaat Ehkaamwas also taught. Likewise, there are manyexamples of educationalrevolutions.Tadreesi Khidmaat (Educational Services of Madrasa AaliyaQadriya)

Madrasa Aaliya Qadriya has been an eminent institute in thefield of Islamic teachings and education for several centuries. Inthe light of the limited knowledge I have, I can say that thisMadrasa has been the oldest (ancient) in India. May be there areother Madrasas which are older than ours, but they are not in thesame spirit as they used to be.

This topic can be extremely huge, but Ill briefly mention thetime of Saifullahil Maslool Maulana Shah Fazl-e-Rasool Badauni. He mainly learned from his father Maulana Shah Ainul HaqMaulana Abdul Majeed Qadri Badauni and many other teachers. The education he received has many eminent Islamic scholars;through one link from Qazi Mubarak, through two links fromMeer Zaahid Harwi, through four links from Mulla Yusuf Alkosji, through five links from Mulla Jalaluddin Dawaani, through sevenlinks from Meer Sayyed Shareef Jurjaani, he has been a studentof the above mentioned. Maulana Shah Fazl-e-Rasools Madrasadoesnt require any proof for its esteemed education. All of theseeducational services have reached Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma)and the Madrasa now has an extraordinary repute in the society.

Our eminent teacher, Imam-e-Ilm-o-fun, Khwaja MuzaffarHussain Rizwi (Alaihir rahma) used to always say that To learnsomething is easy; but to tutor someone is difficult and boththese skills are different. Even if someone is extremely learned,it is not necessary that he may be able to pass on the sameknowledge to others through teaching. He usedto smilingly mention that it is easy to teach;but to train someone on How to teach isdifficult. The skill of training is a naturaltalent gifted by the Almighty Allah.

This natural talent of training used to be evident in ShaikhSaahabs (Alaihir rahma) lectures and classes. Before going to

Teaching in a Madrasa (if the schedules are followedthoroughly) is such a busy task in itself that after this, to undertakeany other work is difficult. The teachers who teach in a Madrasaunderstand how time-consuming it is to teach in Madrasaespecially if the curriculum schedules arefollowed thoroughly. To teach in a Madrasa initself is a big educational work; but ShaikhSaahabs (Alaihir rahma) love for teaching and books, took him to a

higher level in his journey of life. The Islamic articles that he wrote were published periodically in

various Islamic magazines of India and Pakistan. The topmostpublication in this list being Jaam-e-Noor. It is right for me tomention that, Maulana Khustar Noorani convinced Shaikh Saahab(Alaihir rahma) to write articles for Jaam-e-Noor magazines inlieu of their strong friendship and respectful relationship. MaulanaKhushtar Noorani thought of adding a column named KhaamaTalashiin his magazines. (Khama Talash means Fault Finder;this is only done with an objective of correcting ones errors andnot to ridicule someones work). He was on the look-out forsomeone who can do this. Maulana Khushtar Noorani used tosay

I thought that, to pay comprehensive attention to someonesIslamic work is an exceptional skill and an extraordinary task. The person who does this should be extremely learned, observantand should have the verbosity to articulate his views on differentIslamic subjects effectively. I thought about this many times;however, every time my mind would direct me to choose ShaikhUsaidul Haq for this task.

After many discussions and requests from Maulana KhushtarNoorani, Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma) decided to take on thistask in the name of Abul Faiz Mueeni (They had to keep adifferent name; as this person is supposed to be kept confidential)(Khaama Talaashi Page 8/9)

Khaama Talaashi articles started publishing in the month ofApril 2005 and continued until December 2006. In this columnof the magazine, the inaccuracies and faults of the content of theprevious magazine that was published by Jaam-e-Noor wereridiculed in a sophisticated manner. One might think that Toridicule means to put someone down, or to make fun ofsomeones work; but this was clearly done to correct someoneswork and not repeat the same faults. Later it was announced thatAbul Faiz Mueeni was Shaikh Saahab (Alaihirrahma)

I remember that our beloved teacher, Imam-e-Ilm-o-fun Khwaja

Muzaffar Hussain (Alaihir rahma) used to say that, Khaama Talaashiis skill which cannot be accomplished by one man and it requires ateam; a team with a skillset of Ilm-e-Hadtih, Ilm-e-Tafseer,Knowledge of Islamic History, Shora-e-Adab,etc. After namingan exhaustive list of skillsets required, he used to say that Khushtarhas made this team with a lot of hard work. But the reality is that, ayoung man(Shaikh Saahab) sitting on a mat in Madrasa Aaliya Qadriyaused to write Khaama Talaashiin one day; sometimes in one sitting.

In the month of December 2009, all the excerpts of KhaamaTalaashi were collated in theform of a book which was publishedby Fikr-e-Islami, Delhi. After Khaama Talaashi, Jaam-e-Noorreleased another book named Taaqqub. This column continuedonly till February 2008 due to their busy schedules. All thenegative and positive aspects of different articles that werepublished in India were brought to sight in this column. ShaikhSaahab (Alaihir rahma) anxiously wanted to publish the old bookswritten by his grandfathers and great fathers (Akabir-e-Badaun)and due to his occupancy in this project, the Taaqqubcolumnhad to be discontinued. Now, only Maulana Khushtar Nooranican tell you whether he didnt feel the need to continue with thiscolumn or he didnt get anyone better than Shaikh Saahab to writethis column after Shaikh Saahab refused to write this column.

Shaikh Saahabs (Alaihir rahma) deep insightful articles area witness to his knowledge dissemination services. Its not thetime to delve deep into this topic, but Ill mention a few of thebooks/articles he had worked on.1. Arabi, Urdu Muhavaraat Ka Taqaabuli Jaaeza; Jaam-e-NoorJuly 20042. Any intelligent person knows the importance of writing books/articles. Writing has utmost importance in wordly history and inIslamic History it has immense importance, and every educationalinstitute has been successful through their literature. ManyKhanwadas of India have been famous due to their written contentand Khanwada-e-Qadriya is one of them. The people from ourKhanqah have written extremely precious and helpful books andhanded over to the masses for perusal and various people havebenefitted from them. Shaikh Saahab is a son of the same familyand he had inherited this quality of exceptional writing skills fromhis elders. He had outstanding writing skills and he was purefrom any egotism for this skill and why wouldnt it be so? Hewas raised suchin a spiritual and disciplined environment whereegotismor any flawhas no place. His father who is his first teacherand his Murshid, Hazrat-e-Aqdas Huzoor Saheb-e-Sajjad Khanqah-e-Aaliya Qadriya Badaun Shareef is so disciplined and down to earththat egotism can never impact him in anyway.

Shaikh Sahab (Alaihir rahma) wrote over a dozen of books (some

of them published and some werent), but all the books were extremelywell-researched, insightful and it was one of its kind. The speed andenthusiasm with which he used to work in this field was awe-inspiring,if he had been with us for another 10 years, he might have peneddown approximately 50 of them by then. Kindly remember that otherthan the books he himself wrote, he also worked on re-publishingmore than 80 books of his elders which were presented in a muchsimpler and comprehensive language for the readers.

Sometimes Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma) used to say that Abhitoh main apne akabireen ka karz utaar raha hu; abhi maine likhnashuru nahi kiya hai(Right now, Im releasing the books of my eldersand I havent started writing yet)

Here is the list of some of his exceptional books;1) Hadees-e- Ifteraq-e-Ummat Tahqeeqi Mutaale ki Roushnimein (First Published November 2008, Second Publication in May2009)2) Quran-e-Kareem ki Sciency Tafseer (First Published January2008, Second Publication in May 2009)3) Ahaadeeth-e-Qudsiyah (First Published in November 2008,Second Published in May 2009)4) Qaseeda-e-Farazdaq Tameemi : Ek Tahkeeki Mutala(Published in Oct 2013)5) Tazkira-e-Shamsp-e- Marehra (Published in Oct 2013)6) Khairaabadiyaat (Published in 2011)7) Arabic Muhavaraat (First Published in 2011, SecondPublication in 2012)8) Islam, Jihad Aur Dehshat Gardi9) Islam and Khidmat- e-Khalq10) Islam ek Taaruf (English, Urdu , Marathi)11) Khama Talashi, Tanqeedi Mazaamin12) Wariseen-e- Ambiya (Not Published)13) Afhaam-e-Tafheem (Not Published)Ishaatee Khidmaat (Publications)

Likewise, many otherbooks were released by this academy; a few of them are listedbelow1. Mohabbat, Barkat Aur Ziarat; Hazrat-e-Aqdas Ash-ShaikhAbdul Hameed Mohammed Saalimul Qadri Badauni2. Upon returning from Misr (Cairo), Shaikh Saahab (Alaihirrahma) for the first time translated the book Ehqaaq-e-Haq(Writer Saifullahil Maslool Maulana Fazl-e-RasoolBadauni) which was published in January 2007 and then thisjourney of releasing books continued. By Novmber 2013, hundredand seven (107) books were released by Shaikh Saahab (Alaihirrahma)Kutub Khana Qadriya Ki Nishaat-e-Saaniya (Revolutionarychanges in the Library of Madrasa Qadriya)

The history of Khanwada-e-Usmania (Family of Hazrat Usman-e-Gani Radiallahu anhu) is an 800 year old history in India and it isnow known as Khanwada-e-Qadriya of Badaun. The history ofour library is as old as the family and the collection of books is precious. This library of Qadri Servants is no less than a library of a Nawaabora King. Qadeer Qadri Badauni was appointed as Mufti-e-Aazam inHyderabad. Due to his absence in Badaun, the library wasnt takencare of. He was shocked to see the situation of the Library upon hisreturn to Badaun from Hyderabad. The table of content was missingand the books werent kept in the best conditions. After he passedaway, his son, Hazrat-e-Aqdas As-Shaikh Abdul Hameed MohammedSalimul Qadri (Madda Zilluhu) reformed the entire library and thetable of content which still exists. He was the only caretaker and dueto his busy schedules of taking care of the Madrasa, no morereformation beyond this had happened.

In 1995, when Shaikh Saahab came to Badaun from Faizabad onannual leaves, he thought of refurbishing the library, which led tocleaning and organising the library to a certain extent. When he returnedfrom Cairo, the reformation of library started full-fledged. New bookswere given numbers and the old books which were faded and hadgotten loose with their volumes, were reformed to an extent withdefinite volumes. Shaikh Saahab was extremely particular in case ofbooks, he used to call the book binder and get him to do the bindingin his presence. This reformation was very crucial and it was attainedby special attention received from Hazrat-e-Aqdas at regular intervals. The Library took a new form after a lot of hard work carried onduring the year 2006 to 2007.

The library is so well developed for the Muhaqqiqeen thatthey can come and get their questions answered through thereference of the books in the library. The reformed library wasinaugurated on Wednesday 24th of October 2008 by Hazrat-e-Aqdas.

One of the major works of the freedom fighter of India,Maulana Abdul Majid Badauni (Passed away in the year 1931/1350 Hijri) is the auspicious building of Madrasa Shamsul Uloomin Ghantaghar, Badaun. He had formed a huge library withthousands of book in the year 1919-1920. The books were verywell maintained and organised in the library, but as time passed theoverall library had taken a worn-out shape.

After renovating Kutub Khana of Madrasa Aaliya Qadriya, ShaikhSaahab (Alaihir rahma) decided to visit the Kutub Khana of MadrasaShamsul Uloom, which was obviously not in good shape. ShaikhSaahab (Alaihir rahma) decided to renovate this library.

Madrasa Shamsul Uloom is owned by Hazrat-e-Aqdas Saheb-e-Sajjada Aastana-e-Aaliya Qadriya Badaun Shareef. Uponreturning to the Madrasa, Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma) seekedpermission from Hazrat-e-Aqdas to renovate theLibrary of Madrasa Shamsul Uloom, and thepermission was given instantly. From the nextday onwards, Shaikh Saahab along with his teamused to spend days in renovating the library. The place was white-washed, new furniture was made and Shaikh Saahab got busyinto indexing the books and getting the books in a numerological

order. Old and worn out books were binded again and here as wellShaikh Saahabs hard work and attentiveness turned fruitful. He alsomentioned that many important books went missing in the library.

The building was worked upon and the library in it was decorated.Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma) kept many of his books in this Library.Janaab Farrukh Naeem Qadri sent several books written in Englishfrom Abu Dhabi. These books are kept in a section named MaulviFazl-e-Haq(Whom is the grandfather of Farrukh Naeem Qadri). Many books were presented by Aarif Parwez Qadri (who is a poetand isrelated to Hazrat-e-Aqdas). A set of auspicious books werepresented by Late Doctor Sadaqatullah Khan Badauni (He was alsostrongly associated with our Khanqah for a long time)

As this Library is centrally located in Badaun, Shaikh Saahab(Alaihir rahma) wanted it to be a public library. After seekingpermission from Hazrat-e-Aqdas on this thought, he advertisedthis library in different newspapers (English, Hindi and Urdu).Hazrat-e-Aqdas named this Library Maulana Abdul Maajid PublicLibrary. A section named Fareedi Daarul Mutaalais formed in thislibrary. The post of a Librarian is held by Janaab Mohammed TanveerKhan Qadri.

On 4th of Shabaan 1429 Hijri/ August 2008, on the occasionof 165th birth anniversary of Maulana Abdul Maajid Badauni, thislibrary was inaugurated by Hazrat-e-Aqdas Saheb-e-SajjadaAastan-e-Aaliya Qadriya Badaun Shareef. Dr. Khwaja Ikram(Director of Qaumi Counsil Baraye Firog Urdu Zabaan), MaulanaKhushtar Noorani and Maulana Sajjad Misbahi were also presentduring the event.

Ilmi Daurey (Visits)When we pay attention to Shaikh Saahabs

(Alaihir rahma)life we find that he had kepthimself so busy in quest for more knowledge andrelated chores. Apart from teaching in theMadrasa, writing and publishing different books, his quest for books took him places.

I am dividing this section in two parts

    1. Shaikh Saahabs (Alaihir rahma) search of books in Libraries2. His participation in Islamic seminars and symposiums ;Visitsto different Madaaris-e-Islamiya as a Mumtahin; A lecture on aspecial topic; As a judge in various Islamic competitions.1. Shaikh Saahabs (Alaihir rahma) search of books in LibrariesOur beloved teacher, Imam-e-Ilm-o-fun Khwaja Muzaffar Hussain(Alaihir rahma) used to say that The passion to read books isdifferent and the passion to find books is different. We see thatboth these passions existed in Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma). Ihad read it somewhere that there is a lot of difference betweenpassion and habits. Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma) had the passionas well as the habit to read. He used to say that to not have anythingto read for two days will be the biggest punishment for him.

We often see that people prefer to read stuff that intereststhem. Some may find interest in History or geography or ifsomeone has interest in Islamic Literature then one may find interest inIlm-e-Hadith or Ilm-e-Quran.

However, Shaikh Saahabs (Alaihir rahma) situation was a littledifferent; People interested in the field of Ilm-e-hadith used toappreciate Shaikh Saahabs (Alaihir rahma) knowledge in this regardand people interested in the field of Ilm-e-Quran used to feel likewise.I dont want to mention a lot of this matter but I want to mention thathis interest and knowledge of different subjects can be witnessedthrough his Khaama Talaashiarticles.1. The second part of his visits is a bit more wide-ranging.Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma) used to be more inclined to

attending educational functions rather than social (Awaami)functions. He wasnt seen much in social celebrations. After muchemphasis and requests from people, he used to agree to attendsome of them. He used to often send me (Maulana Ateef Qadri)for these and say, Main Ateef Saahab ke Haq mein dastbardarho gaya hu (I have given him the responsibility of attendingsocial functions)

The programs he used to attend were either an Islamic seminar/symposium or deep insightful lectures on special topics whichwere concluded by open question and answer sessions or duringthe final exams in different Madaaris-e-Islamiya or as a judge invarious Islamic competitions.

Due to limited availability of time and the emphasis byMaulana Khushtar Noorani to keep this excerpt brief, I ammentioning a few of the programs which Shaikh Saahab (Alaihirrahma) attended.1. 4th and 5th of October 2004; Mumbai University ,A seminarorganised by Sho baye Arabi on Abu Rehan Al-Beeruni KiHayaat Aur Khidmaat2. 1st and 2nd November 2004; Lectureson Bunyaadi IslamiHuqooq Aur Islam and Zikr-e-Ilaahi Aur Itminaan-e-Qalb innAazam Campus, Pune.3 . 25 th of March 2006; a lecture on Islam,Jihaad Aur Aatankwaad organised by NationalIslamic Foundation in Islamic Gymkhana Club,Mumbai.4. 25th and 26th of February 2006; Sufi Symposium organised bySufi Foundation

A Mufakkirhas quoted that To learn something withoutdiscipline is better than no education. I cant say how true thisquote is, but one cant disregard the importance of discipline.

Shaikh Saahabs (Alaihir rahma) personality was full ofknowledge and discipline, which is why he used to emphasize onthe aspects on attaining knowledge along with discipline. To servethis purpose, he commenced an institute named Al-AzharInstitute of Islamic Studies. Under this institute, a 12-DayDisciplinary and Educational Workshop was arranged for 50students of Madaris-e-Islamiain the Madrasa Aaliya QadriyaBadaun Shareef from 18th to 29th of January 2006. Lectures ondelivered on various topics mainly on the challenges one wouldface in their current day to day life. For these 12 days, all thearrangement of food and accommodation was done by thegenerous Khanqah Aaliya Qadriya, Badaun Shareef. In thisworkshop, Mufti Aale Mustafa Misbahi, Maulan KhushtarNoorani, Maulana Noman Azhari and Maulana SajjadMisbahi also delivered lectures. MaulanaManzarul Islam Azhari gave a lecture via

telephone from the United States of America. Maulana MohammedAhmad Nomani gave a lecture on Taqaabul-e-Adyaan. Theworkshop concluded with quizzes, prize distribution ceremony andcertification.

After this, he started with a competition on Uloom-e-Hadithfrom 8th to 11th February 2008. Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma)wrote a book for the content of this competition and it was handedover to the students of Madaaris Islamiyatwo months prior tothe competition, so that they can prepare well for the competition. On the 11th of February 2008, the prizes were distributed to thewinners of the competition by a special guest of honour - Sharf-e-Millat Hazrat Mohammed Ashraf Miya Marehrawi.

In a similar way, a workshop was arranged for students fromdifferent schools and colleges. He wanted to do this, as he was awareof the lack of Islamic education amongst the students from differentschools and colleges. First workshop for the school and college goingstudents was arranged from 8th of May until 22nd of June 2005 andthis was distinctly the biggest workshop held by Ahl-e-Sunnat walJamaat in India. The students were trained on basic fundamentals ofIslam like Namaz, Roza, Hajj and Zakat. Alongside these, lectureswere delivered by Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma) on Tauheed-o-Shirk (Oneness of the Almighty and Associating Partners with theAlmighty), Aqeedah Khatme Nabuwwat (The belief in the LastMessenger of Allah), Nikah and Talaaq(Marriage and Divorce).Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma) had made a lesson plan for thisworkshop, assigned lecturers for different topics throughout the courseand announced quizzes on various topics.

From the 24th to the 30th of June 2005, a workshop named Fehm-e-Islam haftawas announced in which lectures on various topics weredelivered. Dr. Sayyed Aleem Ashraf (Who is a well-known Muhaqqiq)spoke on Islam and Jihaad during this workshop. Likewise, duringsummer vacations every year, many workshops were held in differentschools and colleges.Khidmat-e-Khalq (Humanitarian and SocialS e r v i c e s )

The principles and values of a Khanqah bestow righteous

deeds, sanctity of heart, best of character and high self-esteem, alongwith theseat the same time, there is a lot of emphasis on humanitarianservices. The life history of Rasoolallah (Sallallahu alaihi wasallam)and the Sahabaas (Companions of the Prophets) (Radiallahu anhum)projects an affluence of humanitarian services. As the values of aKhanqah are derived from the values bestowed upon by the Prophetof Islam Hazrat Mohammed Mustafa (Sallallahu alaihi wa sallam),one will find all the values ordained by the Prophet existent in aKhanqah. It is important that all of these are carried out in a Khanqah.

Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma) was a strict follower of the valuesof a Khanqah and he was the Alam Bardaar (High authority;someone who holds the supreme flag of a Khanqah) as well. ShaikhSaahabs (Alaihir rahma) father Hazrat-e-Aqdas Huzoor Saheb-e-Sajjada Khanqah-e-Aaliya Qadriya Badaun Shareef had bestowedsuch great values and principles in him which are required in a son ofa Khanqah.

Along with teaching, writing, Taqwa (Abstaining from baddeeds), Taharat (Purity of Soul), Shaikh Saahab also worked a loton humanitarian services and he excelled in this field as well. Hehelped somany ill people recover and that only Dr. MasoodHussain Siddique, Dr Ahmad Mujtaba Siddique Barakati (Aligarh)and Dr. Faisal (Aurangabad) can tell you.Drinking Water Facilities

Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma) used to provide chilled waterpacks at various places during hot summers, especially at therailway station, bus stations, and the Dargahs. He used to sendthe students of Madrasa Aaliya Qadriya for this task at variousplaces. Along with the chilled water, he used to also give a smallbrochure introducing Islam. Conveying the message of Islamalongside humanitarian services has been an old customs ofKhanqahs.Muft Taaleem (Free Education)

Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma) was himself quite educatedand he used to emphasize strongly on attainingeducation. He used to support many poor studentswho couldnt pay their fees by paying their

fees. Many students from India and around were aware of this qualityof Shaikh Saahab. Only Allah knows this better that how many ofsuch students he has supported. I am aware of few, but Shaikh Saahabhas always advised me to keep the names as a secret.Shayari (Poetry)

Shaikh Saahab (alaihir rahma) wrote less poetry but beautifulones. He used to pay a lot of attention to the field of Shayari, andyou can witness this in his work on the book QaseedataanRaayataan. He knew thousands of poetry in Urdu, Arabic andthe Faarsi (Persian) Language, which we used to encounter duringour conversations with him and in his articles.

Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir Rahma) comes from a family wherewriting poetry was inherent. His father, grandfather and greatgrandfathers have been great poets and to see this inherence inhim wasnt surprising.

Most of his poetry has been published through Jaam-e-Noor.A renowned poet should be able to give comprehensive reviewon his poetry, but I want to say this that Shaikh Saahab (Alaihirrahma) used to emphasize his poetry by this verse of poetry writtenby his grandfather Aala Hazrat Taajul Fuhool.

Wafaat (Death)On Tuesday, 4th of March 2014, we started our return journey

from Baghdad Shareef and the return tickets were from the IrbeelAirport. We decided that well travel to Irbeel by car, as we canalso visit some important Dargahs (Shrines) on the way to Irbeel.Five of us (Hazrat-e-Aqdas, Shaikh Saahab (Alaihir rahma), HafizAbdul Qayyum Qadri, Haji Iqbal and Myself) left by car. Around70 Kilometers away from Baghdad, some people started firingour car from both the sides and one of the bullets shot ShaikhSaahabs head and he was martyred immediately. Innaa LillahiWa Innaa Ilaihi Raajiun.

During this time, Shaikh Saahab was reading Al Arabaoon-al-Nawaviyyah and his blood spots are still there on this book. Thisbook is now kept in the Kutub Khana of Madrasa Qadriya BadaunShareef. It is important to mention over here that, Shaikh Saahabsgreat grandfather Ameerul Momineen Sayyedana Usman-e-Gani(radiallahu anhu) was martyred while he was reading The Quran.

This incident occurred around 2.30pm Iraq Time and on the 6thof March 2014, Hazrat-e-Aqdas, Huzoor Saheb-e-Sajjada Aastana-e-Aaliya Qadriya led his Salatul Janaza and then he was buried in thespecial burial ground in the Dargah premises of Gaus-e-Aazam.
