SERVICE COMMITTEE TO EXPLORE HELPING

MILITARY FAMILIES: COME JUNE 4

Hi Everyone,

We are looking for new projects that the Service Committee can set up for us to do this coming

year. Laura Burton has arranged a meeting for us to see and hear about "Helping Military Families" on

June 4th at their Jefferson Barrack's House, at 11:00 A.M. We want to see what they need and if we

would like to do a project for them.

We would like as many of you members that want to come , please do come and share your ideas.

The House is located at 1 Jefferson Barrack's Road. If you are coming on 270-255 it is the last exit in

Missouri (Koch Road). You will want to go east to Jefferson Barrack's Road.

Thanks for your help,

Nancy Gass

Jill Cooper

Year that you became a member:

I have been a member of Zonta since 2005. What really drew me to the organization is the focus on

improving the status of women (and their families) though service and particularly the “hands on” types

of projects. I love seeing the results of our service in students helped, presents wrapped, walls painted,

meals served and relationships built. I would love to see us do more of this!

Current /Past Professions: I am a CPA and have worked for Conner Ash, PC for almost 13 years. I

year, consider Maui a beautiful paradise and Alaska a must do experience. We are looking forward to

our biggest trip ever in June. We will be going on a cruise in the Adriatic Sea, starting in Venice and

traveling the Dalmation coast. We can’t wait for this trip and hopefully many more as we look forward

to retirement in the next few years.

WAC STUDENTS LIFE SKILLS WORKSHOP

On Saturday, May 21st the current WAC students attended a LIFE SKILLS WORKSHOP planned by

the WAC committee. This workshop is held every other year for recipients of the WAC Scholarship.

The speakers were Zonta member Pamela Abercrombie Capps, Financial Advisor at UBS who

discussed "Budgeting/Human Capital- Here's where you are and here is where you want to be" and

Candace Niemeyer, Student Counselor at St. Louis Community College, who discussed

Interviewing/Soft Skills. Zonta member Dr. Malaika Horne also discussed her personal experience

working with college students in her position as Director of the Executive Leadership Consortium on the

importance of networking and mentoring programs. The students were very engaged in the presentations

and even stayed after the event for quite a while continuing the discussions.
