If one lit a fire that consumed the wood, stones or earth
of another, he is חייב.
This is learned from the פסוק:
י ש כ א א! צ! יםת! צ אה ק& צ( לומ* כ. א0 נ1 יש ו( ד או ג*
ה מ* ק* ה ה. ד1 ש* תאו ה. ר א1 ע ב( מ. ם ה. ל! ש. ם י( ל! ש.
ה ר* ע! ב( :ה.If a fire goes out and finds thorns, and a stack of grain
or the standing grain or the field is consumed, the one
who lit the fire must pay

Why did the Torah need to write four examples? What is the purpose of each term?

If the פסוק would have written only:
If a fire goes out and finds thorns, he is חייב
I would have thought… he would only be חייב for thorns because they are usually burned and he probably wasn't careful about them, but if a stack of grain burned, I would have thought he is פטור because it must have been an אונס

If the פסוק would have written only:
If a fire goes out and finds the stack of grain, he is חייב
I would have thought… he would only be חייב for the stack because it is a substantial loss, but if thorns are burned, I would have thought he is פטור because the loss is minimal
