23,247 tonnes of rubbish in Stockton (over 26%) is recycled.

Recycling collections are available to homes across the Borough every two weeks.

There's a blue box for glass bottles & jars, batteries, aluminium foil, aluminium & steel cans and, a blue bag for newspapers,

magazines, telephone directories, catalogues and junk mail.  And, we will soon collect plastics and cardboard for recycling too.

Any item of recycling that is not collected as part of

the kerbside collection service can be taken to the Household Waste Recycling Centre, at

Haverton Hill. This service is funded by Stockton and Middlesbrough Council's, for people that live in both

towns. The site plays a big part in our efforts to help residents to recycle

as much as possible, allowing everyone to do

their bit for the environment.

In Stockton there is 87,000 tonnes of rubbish collected every year!1 recycled tin can would save enough energy to power a television for 3 hours. 1 recycled glass bottle would save enough energy to power a computer for 25 minutes. 1 recycled plastic bottle would save enough energy to power a 60-watt light bulb for 3 hours. Recycling materials does less damage to the environment than making things from new materials.
