• “Three Million Genomes Projects”- M & M & M Projects
• introduced by Dr Jun Wang, Executive Director of BGI, will consist of
1. “Million Plant and Animal Genomes Project,”
2. “Million Human Genomes Project” and
3. “Million Micro-Ecosystem Project.”
• They will provide a clear classification on the studied species, and advance the understanding of the species genome and the application of genome-based research for different objectives.
http://www.bgisequence.com/eu/newsandevents/news/bgi-unveils-significant-new-global-research-collaborations-at-th
BGI has already sequenced 38,123 human samples, so far.
China Is Engineering Genius Babies
• At BGI Shenzhen, scientists have collected DNA samples from 2,000 of the world’s smartest people and are sequencing their entire genomes in an attempt to identify the alleles which determine human intelligence.
• Apparently they’re not far from finding them, and when they do, embryo screening will allow parents to pick their brightest zygote and potentially bump up every generation's intelligence by five to 15 IQ points. Within a couple of generations, competing with the Chinese on an intellectual level will be like challenging Lena Dunham to a getting-naked-on-TV contest.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations
The ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) shall be the goal of regional economic integration by 2015. AEC envisages the following key characteristics: (a) a single market and production base, (b) a highly competitive economic region, (c) a region of equitable economic development, and (d) a region fully integrated into the global economy.
To create a competitive market of over 600 million people in Aseancountries: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
How about Thailand and the rest in AEC.

“Pharmaceutical companies have long ignored rare diseases.
For most of them, the basic genomics studies haven’t even been carried out, leaving those suffering without candidate genes to even begin experiments on.
The 7000 rare diseases, less than five percent have FDA approved therapies.
Two privet sectors are behind the award making genomic sequencing and analysis to family affected by rare diseases.
The estimated 6,000 human Mendelian diseases, the cause of fewer
than half is known. But with the reduction in sequencing costs and time,
this stands to change.
Mendelian diseases — those that arise from a mutation in a single
gene. Although many Mendelian diseases are rare, they provide a
clear look at the function of a given gene in the body.

Such long read lengths eliminate the difficulty of assembling fragments from regions of repetitive sequence in a genome, a problem that hobbles second generation technologies.
Though sequencing a human genome by 3rd Generation sequencer may still be a long way off. However, once the technology is fully developed, it will be capable of sequencing an entire human genome in about an hour with highest accuracy.
