Rapper Mystikal surrenders on rape charge in Louisiana

A joke about the new pound coin has been named the funniest of the Edin-burgh Festival Fringe.

Ken Cheng won the 10th annual Dave’s Funniest Joke of the Fringe with: “I’m not a fan of the new pound coin, but then again, I hate all change.”

The joke, from his show “Ken Cheng: Chinese Comedian,” won 33 percent of a public vote on a shortlist of gags picked by comedy critics.

Previous winners include Tim Vine, Stewart Francis and Zoe Lyons.

Cheng told BBC Radio 4’s “Today” program he was surprised the joke won the award because it had been a “groaner.”

“Audiences tends to groan at it a lot,” he said.

“I’m generally going after laughs, but I’ll take the groan.”

Cheng said he came up with the joke when the government announced plans for the new 12-sided £1 coin in 2014.

Asked to pick what joke he thought was the funniest besides his own, he said Frankie Boyle’s.

Cheng studied maths at Cambridge for a year before dropping out to play

he reached the fi nal of the 2015 BBC Radio New Comedy Award.

On winning the Dave prize, Cheng said: “I am very proud to have won. As a tribute, I will name my fi rstborn son after this award and call him ‘Joke of the Fringe’.”

The award, which was voted on by 2,000 people, lists jokes anonymously* to avoid any bias* towards well-known comedians.

Steve North, general manager of Dave, said: “From Trump and vegan-ism to the new pound coin, this year’s news agenda has certainly also provided some great inspiration for comedians to get grips* with.

“It’s fantastic to see that, even after 10 years of the Joke of the Fringe award, there is no shortage of brilliant one-liners delivered at the festival to get us all laughing.”

Masai Graham won last year’s award with the gag: “My dad suggested I reg-ister for a donor card. He’s a man after my own heart.”

Plot details are currently scarce, other than that Washington will reprise* his role as Robert McCall, a former special-ops* agent who now helps those who can’t defend them-selves. Details on Pascal’s character are unknown.

The pic bows on September 14, 2018. The movie is Washington’s fi rst sequel after the fi rst fi lm was a hit, grossing US$100 million domestically. Based on the 1970s TV series, “The Equalizer” followed McCall as a simple man who

worked at a Home Depot-style store and kept a quiet life.

While details on what force Wash-ington’s character will be fi ghting are being kept under wraps, it could be another high-powered gang* led by Pascal.

The sequel is a big move for Sony, as this marks the fi rst time Washington has ever reprised a character in his storied career. “The Equalizer 2” is such a priority for Washington that Fuqua left his post as director of the “Scarface” reboot at Universal to focus on the fi lm.

It also marks a big get for Pascal, who has begun to build a busy career after breaking out as Prince Oberyn in Season 4 of “Game of Thrones.” He

has continued to build a fan base with Netfl ix’s “Narcos” while slowly adding major fi lms to his resume.

Along with Season 3 of “Narcos,” Pascal can next be seen in “Kingsman 2: The Golden Circle,” which opens next month and also stars Taron Egerton, Colin Firth, Julianne Moore and Channing Tatum. He is repped by WME and Untitled Entertainment.

The rapper Mystikal has surrendered to authorities in Louisiana, where he faces a sexual assault charge.

KSLA-TV video-recorded the 46-year-old rapper, whose real name is Michael Lawrence Tyler, as he entered the Caddo Correctional Center in northwest Louisiana on Monday.

Tyler was wanted on a warrant list-ing a charge of fi rst-degree rape.

KSLA reported that the allega-tion stems from an occurrence at a Shreveport casino last October. Online booking records show Tyler was in the correctional* center as of Monday afternoon.

Tyler was released from a Louisiana prison in 2010 after serving six years for sexual battery and extortion.

Roy Maughan Jr., a Baton Rouge lawyer who represents Tyler in some matters, said he was uncertain whether counsel has been retained for the current case.
