Exhibit Trends
Machines tools are evolving to optimize production processes through graftingof IT convergence technologies and smart solutions & programs.
A large number of machine tools and solutions that reflect this trend were exhibitedin the Metal Cutting & Die Mold Working Pavilion at SIMTOS2014. Theyreflected the evolution to smarter production processes by converging orcombining software and data communications based on IT technologies in order torealize more efficient processing environments. Oil and raw material price hikes, manpower shortages, diversification of customer needs, and environmentalpollution issues, including global warming, are coming to the fore as newchallenges.
SMITOS2014 featured more flexible production lines, eco-friendly manufacturingtechnologies and solutions that minimize use of raw materials and equipment bytaking into account available resources and conditions, cutting a conspicuousfigure.
Another trend seen at SIMTOS2014 was the expanded exhibition of processintegration and automation-related equipment and solutions. Production line-response type equipment designed to cut production costs by shortening leadtimes, establishment of automation lines and optimization of processes alsoshowed strength.
Furthermore, the fact that efforts to graft the latest mobile and IT convergencetechnologies with machine tools appeared remarkably can be cited as a newtrend as well. In other words, solutions facilitating design, maintenance & repair, consulting, and post-management work in real-time through linkage of smartdevices and machine tools were exhibited on a large scale.

Exhibit Trends
Development of environment-friendly tools for processing of difficult-to-cutmaterials has emerged as leverage for the competitiveness of relatedindustries around the world. The new drive has been promoted by thesuccessful development of new difficult-to-cut materials, centering on suchkey industries as aerospace, automobiles, medical instruments, etc.
The direction in development of tools for processing of difficult-to-cutmaterials is centered on two axes - designing new coating technologies andoptimum tool shapes (tool nose, chip breaker, surface pattern, etc.). In linewith this trend, machine tool makers also are focusing efforts on enhancingmechanical strength.
Reflecting this trend in the Tools & Related Equipment Pavilion atSIMTOS2014, technologies were showcased that featured integratedsolutions - the sharing of processing technologies between tools andmachine tools.
In addition, energy-saving & eco-friendly, high-performance and high-efficiency cutting tools, special tools and high-tech tools with excellentprocessing results and multiple functions even in extreme environmentsdrew keen interest.
The Tools & Related Equipment Pavilion consisted of 694 booths withexhibits by 160 companies from 15 countries.

Exhibit Trends
In the metal cutting and welding field, development of products enablinghigh-quality cutting-off and welding work while realizing contrastingobjectives - expansion of machining scope and space saving - is becoming akey task.
Amid this trend, metal cutting equipment using different cutting methods, including a wide variety of saw machines, milling machines for cutting, water jet cutting machines and laser cutting machines, were exhibited inthe Cutting-Off & Welding Pavilion at SIMTOS2014.
Especially, laser machines with 'high output,' 'fiber laser' and 'complexfunction' as keywords emerged on a large scale, engaging in fiercecompetition.
Amid the emergence of fiber lasers and disk lasers and their mounting ontohigh-output laser machines starting several years ago, all large domesticcompanies exhibited fiber laser machines among their mainstay productgroups.
A fiber laser is a compact resonator, so vibration is stable and cutting qualityis excellent. Recently, 10kw high-output fiber lasers rather than lamp ordiode types have been introduced, opening a new market in the largecutting equipment field.
In the Cutting-Off & Welding Pavilion at SIMTOS2014, 61 companies from14 countries exhibited their high-tech machines on a 635-booth scale atHalls 9+10 (13.027m2) of KINTEX 2 Exhibition Center.

For steel plates developed with strong, lightweight materials, aluminiumand magnesium alloys, etc. having applications expanding into estheticmaterials, especially in the high press-demand automobile industry, hot andwarm press forming are taking center stage. Accordingly, to meet thetechnology development trends of presses, moves to introduce energy-saving machines along with a greater use of servos are active.
Reflecting the trends, various presses, including servo presses, and formingmachines were exhibited in the Press & Metal Forming Pavilion at Hall 10(13,072m2) of SIMTOS2014,where 31 companies from eightcountries exhibited servo presses, mechanical presses, hydraulicpresses, punching machines, notching machines, automationmachines for presses, press parts, loading and unloading peripheralmachines for press forming andautomation machines.
