She became prime minister in 1982, and remained so for 12 years. 그녀는 1982 년에 수상이 되어 12 년간 그 직위 (= 수상직 ) 에 머물러 있었다 . 2. 앞에 나온 긍정의 문장이나 절을 대신 : think, suppose, do, say, tell, hope, expect, believe 등의 목적어 He is a very nice guy. I don't think so. [I suppose so, too.] so=He is a very nice guy Those who want to go out early may do so. do so =go out early Helen will be safe. - I hope so. ( 헬렌은 안전할 겁니다 . - 저도 그러길 바래요 .) < 참고 : 부정의 문장이나 절은 not 으로 받는다 .> I'm afraid it will be rainy. I hope not. not=it will not be rainy 3. so+ 주어 + 동사 (have, do, 조동사 ): so 는 yes 의 뜻이 되어 「정말 ( 과연 ) 그러하다」 so+ 동사 (be, have, do, 조동사 )+ 주어 : so 는 also 의 뜻이 되어 「∼도 역시 그러하다」 I hear he is very kind.-- So he is. ( 그는 정말 그래요 .) / So is his wife. ( 그의 부인도 역시 친절합니다 .) They work hard. -- So they do. ( 그들은 정말 그래요 .) / So do I. ( 나도 그래요 .)
