ADDRESS SERVICE REQUESTED
From Ashes to Gladness
It seems as though every year we have people who go through afflictions. We have a constant need for many believ-ers who are afflicted with cancer, heart disease and other illnesses. Last year we had those who lost their homes in the Elk City Tornado. Last week we had the devastating wildfires in our association. I saw First Baptist Church in Leedey minister to firefighters and the community for several days. Rhea Baptist Church had fire come to its front doors. The church at Rhea had just been painted the week before. Rhea Baptist Church opened the church to feed all the firefighters in that area. The wildfires that traveled through Durham, Reydon and Crawford devastated the community with the loss of a coun-ty worker assisting the firefighters. The members at Durham and Reydon began to serve the community by making sandwiches and giving the firefighters much needed essentials. On Friday fire began to cover Texola, Erick and Vinson. First Baptist Church in Erick set up a shelter in the Erick Community Building to assist firefighters and law enforcement. On Saturday the Martha Gin caught on fire and de-stroyed several homes in the community. The Martha Road Baptist Church opened their church up as a Red Cross Shelter and served that community with love. The Great Plains Baptist Association Disaster Relief in Elk City and Altus activated and served the firefighters and victims in the communities listed above. Over 1,000 meals were served to firefighters, law enforcement, volunteers and victims by the churches of Great Plains Baptist Association and the association disaster relief volunteers. Please pray about getting trained in the disaster relief ministry.I’m reminded of the words from the prophet Isaiah in Isaiah 61:3, “Giving them a garland instead of ashes, The oil of gladness instead of mourning.” I’m grateful for churches who minister, Danny Ringer Director of Missions.

ALTUS BCM NEWS BCM News letter This will be my last newsletter as BCM director at Western. It has been five and a half years since I pulled in the back parking lot with the big U Haul truck. Since that time I have met many students and ministered a long side them. I have learned so much from college students and their passion for life. Many of them have scattered to various locations. It is my prayer is they all develop in their relationships with the Lord. Our last Noonday is next week. Thank you to all who have spoken and brought food! The annual mission trip to Chicago is May 12 through 19. There are four students going from Western. We are joining a team of 30 from several BCM’s around the state. I know God is going to do some amazing things! I want to thank the churches and individuals who have supported the ministry financially and through prayer and encouragement. God bless each of you In Christ Mark Turvaville
MAY REPORT Last Sunday I put out signs and watched reactions a little before it was time to start. People appeared nervous but some stayed. Pray for us as we minister to the drivers Thanks from Randy & Denise
SAYRE BCM NEWS
Dear Association, Another semester is coming to an end as you read this article. We didn’t have the numbers we would have liked this semester, but God blessed us with some great conversations. It was great in that many of these stu-dents will be moving on after this semester, so we had the chance to deepen some relationships. We look forward to what God has in store for next fall. I do want to say “THANK YOU” to all churches for providing meals and finances for the SWOSU Sayre BCM. You have no idea the number of lives you have impacted through your giving. We will be sending out schedules for next year in the next month, so start to think about when you will want to serve. Pray also for ways to reach more students for the kingdom. God Bless Benny Lockler
