Dear Fellow Greystone Members,

What a great season to be in Alabama and a member of Greystone! Your Board of Directors hopes that you and yours are enjoying these cool crisp mornings followed by warm afternoons. It is quite an invigorating time!

We’ve had a busy year at Greystone in the first ten months and there are many more planned activities for you to enjoy in these last two months. Hopefully you have been able to utilize some, if not all of your Club’s amenities this year, and based upon the high activity records, you’ve done just that. As I reported in our most previous letter, we continue having more golf rounds, more tennis matches, more swim visits, more dining at all locations, and higher attendances at our “fun” functions such as Fun Fridays, Family Night dinner at Founders, Wine Festivals/Dinners, etc. than in previous years. The Club is for your enjoyment and we, the Board, the Staff, and the Committee Members, are pleased to see the increased participation.

Financially we have made a great deal of progress, but at this time, it looks as if we will have a slight shortfall. Rest assured that we continue to seek out more revenue producing events such as Golf Outings, Saturday afternoon reduced guest fees, reinstating our Sunday Brunch, Steak Night, Holiday Parties, etc. We are all committed to a “fourth quarter” push to see that we meet our budget.

Our membership continues to grow in spite of these not-so-good economic times. We surpassed 800 members in August, and we hope to remain around 800 by the end of 2012. Jeff Clifton led a Redemption Committee that studied ways to improve our Memberships. Their recommendations were presented to the Board and approved for implementation on October 1, 2012. For Equity Members, one of the improvements is the ability to “gift” your redemption to a family member or a close friend. This is quite innovative and trend setting for Equity Clubs. There is no better source for new prospective members than the families and friends of our existing members. Thanks to Jeff and to all members of that committee.

Special thanks to the Board, Committee Members, Members and Staff for a great year! See page 3 for the listing of 2012 Members we’d like to thank and recognize for their time and service to the Club.

This time of year brings the Board election. I encourage all voting members to take time to review each candi-date and cast their vote. All members are encouraged to attend the November 20th Annual Membership Meeting at 6:00 pm at Founders, where election results will be announced and the year 2012 will be reviewed.

Well, autumn is here and the holiday season is approaching quickly. We encourage you to use your Club for your holiday festivities by reserving private parties, by entertaining family and guests with golf or tennis, and by attending the many parties that are planned. There are some good times coming in these last two months, so enjoy them to the fullest!

Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas & a Happy Holiday Season,

Dear Members,

I certainly hope that each of you are enjoying this beautiful time of year. As we move closer to the end of this year, I am always reminded what an incredible place I come to each and every day. Greystone is not what it is because of the facilities, it is great because of the people... you and your families and the residents make it special. A week doesn’t go by without learning something extraordinary about someone... either an act of kindness, a memorable event in one’s life, or the way people treat one another. Hopefully, each of us realizes that we are all very blessed and that we are in an incredible place... Greystone!

Thank you!

The staff at the Club is special! They care about each of you and your families. Although we are not perfect, (anything that we do not perfect is my fault) we do care about you! I truly am fortunate to work with dedicated, smart and caring people.

The Board and Committees at Greystone are terrific! They have “rolled up their sleeves” and continued to learn to explore the club business. The pay is lousy for them but they serve to make a difference for you and your families. The work done by the Redemption Committee, chaired by Jeff Clifton, will have a positive impact for 20 years! Many thanks to President Tom Miller for always making himself available to members and the staff. He listened and made good, solid decisions. Thanks to Allen Franklin, Chairman of the Board, for his three years on the Board. Allen is an exceptional person, friend and will be missed on the Board of Directors. Two Board Members, Terry Smith and George Drakos, complete their three year term at the end of the year. Thanks to them for their wisdom and passion for the Club and their desire to enhance Greystone! Congratulations in advance to Steve Vanderburg for his presidency in 2013. Steve is an amazing and positive ambassador for Greystone and will be a wonderful President!

When Members ask, “How is the Club doing?”

I always respond that “the Club is doing well, far better than most Clubs in the area and country! Actually Greystone is doing quite well!” A few examples through September:

1. The Club has accepted 63 new members in 2012 versus 48 members who have resigned. A positive attrition of 15.

2. The Club has performed better than budget in 8 out of 9 operating months in 2012, narrowing the operating loss to its lowest point since 1996.

3. Through the Capital Dues Program, the Club has over $412,650 in capital reserves for future needed projects and enhancements. FYI, more than 65% of all clubs have some form of capital dues.

4. We have bucked the national trend as we have experienced an increase in golf rounds by 11% over 2011!

5. The Club has had some incredible events in 2012: Fallen Heroes Tournament, Beatles on the Green, Greystone Invitational, July 4th Celebration, Easter Egg Hunt and Member-Guest, just to name a few.

At last, Tennis Hard Courts!

Tennis hard courts are finally being built after 8 years! Are we there yet, no! There is and will always be a need to enhance the facilities, programs, services and products to what you want and need. It is so important to continue to build for the future, while managing today’s needs.

As we conclude this year, thank you for the honor to be at Greystone!

Personally speaking: Many thanks for all of the prayers and thoughts this past year for my wife, Carolyn, who has had major knee complications. Our son, Marshall, is enjoying his second year at Auburn and is doing very well!

Dear Members,

Wow, what a great year it has been at Greystone for both the Founders and Legacy courses. We were blessed with absolutely fantastic weather, record rounds of golf, new highs in golf outing revenue and the most bragged about golf course conditions in my 16

years. My reason for bringing this to your attention is to say THANK YOU! We can’t do this without you. You took advantage of the wonderful course conditions and came and played golf and brought guests. You recommended outings to us, bought your merchandise in the Golf Shops, and got fit in the TaylorMade Performance Lab and told others about it. Greystone wouldn’t be the amazing club that it is without you. That’s what makes Greystone so special, member support of a great club as well as the opportunity to build friendships that will remain for years. Once again I say, THANKS!

By the way, in case you didn’t know we are running our Saturday afternoon football special through most of No-vember. The details: Tee off between 12:30 and 2:00 and guest fees are only $50, tee off after 2:00 and the fee drops to $30 (cart included).

Save the Date The Holiday Golf Shop Open House event will be on December 6th at the Founders Course. If you haven’t attended the Open House before, it’s an evening of shopping, snacking, sipping, wrapping and saving. We draw discounts out of the Christmas Fish Bowl from 20-100% off (yep, you read that right, 100%). It’s a great time and a definite “don’t miss”. We will be mailing invitations to everyone as time gets closer.

Winter Guest Fee Just a reminder that the guest fee will be reduced to $75 as in years past starting on December 1st and will remain at that rate until March 1st. There will be no limit to the number of times someone can play through this winter period.

From all of us in the Golf Shop to all of you, have a great holiday season,

TURKEY TROT Eat Stuffed Turkey, Don’t Feel Like One

Begins Nov. 1st & ends Nov. 20th You have 20 days to complete (COLOR) as many turkeys as you can. 20 minutes of exercise (cardio or weight training) is equal to 1 body part on the turkey.

One Turkey has 14 body parts which equals 280 minutes of exercise. Log on the back of your turkey when you complete each workout session and add your

workout minutes. Follow the example on the board & color your turkey. You can even do 60 or 90 minutes a day, completing 3+ turkey body parts per day

(no maximum number of minutes per day & no carryover minutes). NOTE: 1 Round of Golf (18 holes) = 1 Turkey Body Part & 1 Tennis Match = 2 Turkey Body Parts The first 3 to finish win and everyone who completes a turkey by the 20th will be entered into

our raffle for prizes. This is a win/win—you win a prize & you don’t gain weight!

1. Game begins Dec. 3rd & ends Dec. 21st. 2. Each time you do CARDIO, track how many

calories you burned. If your cardio is NOT on a machine that gives you calories burned, use this rule of thumb: every 10 minutes of cardio = 100 calories. (NOTE: If you wear a calorie counting watch, you may count your calories based on the watches reading.)

3. This is a CARDIO ONLY game, weight training and personal training do not count (unless it is cardio).

4. The first person to burn 3500 calories wins. Everyone who burns 3500 calories by Dec. 21st gets his/her name in a drawing to win more prizes!

5. Remember, 3500 calories equals one pound. The average person gains 5-7 pounds during the holidays. How many pounds can you burn off before they are stored as FAT?

6. If you want to play, register at front counter, place your name on a candy cane, and tack it to the bulletin board.

We will have our annual Iron Bowl Mixer where we ask players to dress up in their favorite college’s gear. For our juniors, we will host our annual Turkey and Christmas Camps. These events have had a great turnout in years past and we expect this year to be the same. Much of these camps will be played on our new hard courts that are expected to be completed soon! Finally, the tennis staff will hold our annual Holiday Open House. Our own Randy Smith will play Christmas jingles on the guitar and tennis pro elves will wrap the gifts!
