There has been a fast growth in the introduction and use of communications, information, monitoring, and sensing technologies. The new technologies are making their way to the Industrial Control Systems as embedded in products, software applications, IT services, or commissioned to enable integration and automation of increasingly global supply chains. The variety and increased use of these technologies introduce many cybersecurity risks affecting cyber-resilience of the supply chain, both in terms of the product or service delivered to a customer and members of the supply chain operation.
The current state of globalization complication increased by factors such as the global sourcing of technology components, hardware, firmware and software products. The situation became very risky because of the involvedness of ownership of the systems in a supply chain, numerous legal jurisdictions involved, and the extensive use of third parties to deliver critical functionality.
This work will examine the cyber-resilience issues related to the supply of products, services, and the supply chain infrastructure considering the nature of threats and vulnerabilities and the attributes of cybersecurity. Also, it will shed a light on FERC Approval of NERC’s Supply Chain Risk Management Reliability Standards. This new cyber field is intended to help address the risks, challenges and requirements of the increased globalization, outsourcing, dissemination, and un-reliable standards of hardware and software systems. It is an consolidative discipline combining elements of cybersecurity, supply chain management, and enterprise risk management into a new and powerful concept to exert strategic control over the end-to-end processes of the focal organization and its extended enterprise partners.

Workshop 2 : Al Karam 1 Hall
(08:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.)
Pre-Conference Workshops : 10th December, 2019
Assessing the effectiveness of a demand response (DR) program requires appropriate metrics of performance.
The assessment of an aggregator-based residential DR program using two newly developed metrics addressing the economic and environmental aspects of sustainability is presented.
The economic sustainability metric of the DR method is quantified by the economic savings of the customers on electricity charges and the aggregator’s profit.
The environmental sustainability is quantified by measuring the reduction in capacity factors of fossil-fueled peaking power plants and the subsequent reduction in CO2 emissions.
A simulation study is performed for a large-scale power system consisting of 5,555 users and 56,659 schedulable assets using real pricing data from a utility and a bulk electricity market for a -31day period.
Then, high-performance computing methods are applied to the month-long study to yield a faster computation time. Finally, the impact of high penetration of photo-voltaic generators (PVs) and associated energy storage assets in the distribution grid on the aggregator’s profits are analyzed.

The water distribution sector in the Kingdom announced that it is set to implement an initiative to
replace mechanical meters with electronic ones that are linked to each other throughout the Kingdom.
The initiative aims to support the automation of billing development procedures, reduction of water
losses, permanent monitoring of networks in real estate to ensure customers are receiving water
during scheduled pumping periods, minimization of operating costs, and activation of modern
technology infrastructure.
