1 Safety

1.1 Symbol key

You will find this symbol wherever hazards for persons or damage to the product are possible.

This symbol indicates important information on the product or its handling.

1.2 Appropriate use

The unit must only be used within the scope of its technical data. Appropriate use also includes compliance with the conditions the manufacturer has specified for commissioning, assembly, operation, the environment and maintenance. Using the unit with disregard to even a minor specification will be deemed inappropriate use. The manufacturer assumes no liability for any injury or damage resulting from inappropriate use.

1.3 Environmental and operating conditions

- Use the unit only within the application parameters defined in the Technical Catalog. The most recent version applies (according to the General Terms and Conditions). Please make sure that your application has been checked based on the current SCHUNK calculation program. If this is not the case, we can provide no warranty.

- Requirement for quality of the compressed air according to ISO 8573-1: 6 4 4 - Clean ambient conditions at room temperature are required. If these conditions are

not ensured, the maintenance interval will be shorter, depending on the actual utiliza-tion.

- The environment must be free of splashing water and vapors, and also of abrasive dust and process dust. This does not apply to units designed especially for dirty envi-ronments.

1.4 Safety notes

1. There are potential risks associated with the unit, for example if: - the gripper is improperly used, installed or serviced. - the gripper is used other than for the intended purpose. - the EC Machine Directive, the accident prevention regulations, the VDE

guidelines or the safety and installation instructions are not observed.

2. All personnel who are responsible for installation, commissioning and servicing must have read and understood the entire operating manual, in particular the chapter on »Safety«. It is recommended to have this confirmed in writing.

3. Installation and dismantling, mounting of the proximity switches, connections and commissioning may be carried out only by authorized personnel.

4. Work procedures that impair the correct functioning and operational safety of the product are prohibited.

5.

Do not move any parts by hand when the unit is connected to the power supply.

6. Do not touch the mechanics when they are uncovered and do not reach between the gripper fingers.

7.

The power supply cables must be removed for assembly, modification, maintenance and adjustment of the unit.

8.

Carry out all maintenance, modifications or attachments outside of the danger zone.

9.

During installation, connection, adjusting, commissioning and testing, measures must be taken to prevent the risk of inadvertent activation of the unit by the fitter or other persons.

10. Protective covers must be provided for the use of all handling modules in accordance with EC Machine Directive, Section 1.4.

11.

There is a danger due to falling or ejected objects. Preventive measures must be taken to prevent the falling or ejection of potentially dangerous objects (machined workpieces, tools, chips, debris, waste, etc.).

12.

Additional bore holes, threads or attachments not offered by SCHUNK as accessories may be mounted only after obtaining the approval of SCHUNK.

13.

Grippers which use spring force for clamping, or which have a gripping force maintenance system with springs, are spring loaded. Therefore special care is to be taken when dismantling this type of unit.

14.

After an emergency stop, grippers with a mechanical gripping force maintenance system can keep on moving independently in the direction determined by the mechanical gripping force maintenance system. The gripper limit positions can be secured using SCHUNK SDV-P valves in the event of an emergency stop.

15.

The top jaws, especially for grippers with mechanical gripper support, must be designed so that the gripper, when depressurized, reaches one of the end posi-tions – open or closed – so that no residual energy can be released during chang-ing of the top jaws.

16. In addition, the applicable safety regulations and accident prevention regulations must be observed.

Do not move any parts by hand when the unit is connected to the power supply.

Do not reach into the open mechanical parts and the area of motion of the rotary unit.

Rotary units with internal springs can have parts that are under spring tension. Therefore, special care is necessary when dismantling such a unit.

In the event of emergency shut-down the rotary unit can still move due to a drop in pressure. If such movement is not desired, the position of the unit in the event of emergency shut-down can be secured in any end position with the use of SCHUNK SDV-P valves.

2 Warranty

The warranty period is 24 months after the delivery date from the factory, provided that the unit was used appropriately in 1-shift operation and that the specified maintenance and lubrication intervals were observed. Components coming into contact with workpieces as well as wearing parts are not included in the In this context, please also see our General Terms and Condi-tions.

3 Scope of delivery

The scope of delivery comprises:

- Pneumatic rotary gripper module with radial grippers type GSM-R, depending on the version ordered (without solenoid switch and without top jaws)

- Enclosed pack (for content see chapter 9.2 Bills of materials for enclosed packs, on page 41)

- Accessories (for separate order - see catalogue)

4 Technical data

The airborne sound emitted from the unit is <= 70dB(A) Please consult our catalogue for further technical details. The latest version is valid in each case (in accordance with chapter 2.3, General Terms and Conditions). Please check whether your individual case has been checked using the calculation program for rotary actuators (SSE) and grippers (SSG). 5 Assembly and commissioning

5.1 Assembly

For connection dimensions, please refer to the corresponding drawings in the latest catalog, or our CAD data service on the Internet (link at www.schunk.com )

IMPORTANT! The energy supply must be switched off during assembly. Please also observe the safety notes in chapter 1.4 page 4.

5.2 Commissioning

5.2.1 Air connection / media connection

IMPORTANT: When connecting, the energy supply must be switched off. Please also observe the safety notes (chapter 1.4 page 4).

IMPORTANT: The central air unit must be provided with a maintenance unit, which is placed as near to the consumer as possible.

IMPORTANT: If the end positions for the stroke and swivel movements are not free of bumps or bounce, the particular movement must be adjusted using exhaust flow restriction.

NOTE: - Open only the required connections and close off air intakes that are not required with

suitable dummy stoppers. Locking screws for the main air connections are included in the Structure bills of materials for enclosed packs of rotor drives FAN 25-64, see chapter 9.2.1 on page 41.

- For hoseless assembly, use the O-rings (item 207) in the enclosed pack (see chapter 9.2.1 Structure bills of materials for enclosed packs of rotor drives FAN 25-64, page 41). Here too, any restriction that may be necessary should also be noted.

- Pressure medium: Compressed air. Requirement on the quality class of compressed air according to DIN ISO 8573-1: 6 4 4

To achieve this, the restriction reduc-ers (item 95), as they are known, of the main connections, which are designed for a moderate attached load, can be fitted in the adapter plate for example.

5.2.2 Checking the opening and closing times

If you cannot reach the opening and closing times mentioned in the latest catalog, please check the following: Flow control valves are opened to the maximum extent possible?

(Movement still has to be shock-free!) Inner diameter of air hoses is sufficient for the gripper‟s air consumption? Air hose between valve and gripper is as short as possible? Flow rate of valve is sufficient for the gripper‟s air consumption?

If you still cannot achieve the cycle times mentioned in the latest catalog, we recommend the use of quick-air-vent-valves directly at the gripper.

5.2.3 Securing the unit

Securing the unit at the base (with adapter plate similar to /A/, /B/ or /C/, see Figure 5-1, page 7) The unit can be assembled from the side of the unit using screws (item /6/). Threads are pro-vided in the housings for customer-specific securing from the other side. (The screws (items /5/ and /6/) are not included in the scope of delivery.) Guide sleeves (item /2/) (see chapter 9.2.1 Structure bills of materials for enclosed packs of rotor drives FAN 25-64, page 41) are to be

used to ensure safe transfer of lateral forces and positioning of the unit.

Securing the unit from the side (with adapter plate similar to /A/, /B/ or /C/) The unit can be assembled from the side of the unit using A2 screws (item /3A/, /3B/ or /3C/) included in the enclosed pack (see chapter 9.2.1 Structure bills of materials for enclosed packs of rotor drives FAN 25-64, page 41). Threads are provided in the housings for customer-specific securing from the other side. (The A2 screws (item /4A/, /4B/ or /4C/) are included in the enclosed pack, chapter 9.2.1 Structure bills of materials for enclosed packs of rotor drives FAN 25-64, page 41.) Guide sleeves (item /1A/, /1B/ or /1C/) (see chapter 9.2.1 Structure bills of materials for enclosed packs of rotor drives FAN 25-64page 41) are to be used to ensure safe transfer of lateral forces and positioning of the unit.

IMPORTANT To ensure reliable monitoring using solenoid switches, the adapter plates in particular and the attachments in the immediate vicinity of the unit should be made from non-ferromag-netic material. Otherwise, the monitoring using magnet sensors could be severely affected. (see chapter 10 Accessories page 44 refer to chapter on solenoid switches, if chapter ex-ists)

IMPORTANT When monitoring using solenoid switches, a minimum distance of 10 mm between the units should always be adhered to when assembling several units side by side. (see chapter 10 Accessories page 44 refer to chapter on solenoid switches, if chapter exists)

5.2.4 Securing the customer-specific structure

IMPORTANT! Any impacts when inserting the cylindrical pins or guide sleeves will damage the unit and are therefore not permitted.

Securing the customer-specific structure to the gripper fingers GSM-R Per gripper finger, we recommend using both threaded holes for screws, as well as the two recesses for guide sleeves, for securing the customer-specific top jaws (item 201). The re-quired guide sleeves are included in the enclosed pack (see chapter 9.2.2 Structure bills of ma-terials for enclosed packs GSM-R, page 42), mounting screws are not included.

5.2.5 Adjusting the end positions

Adjusting the end position for elastomer cushioning:

1. Connect connections A and B to the compressed air supply.

2. Load connections A and B alternately and allow the unit to swivel.

3. Load connection B, the rotary actuator reaches the limit position by turning counter-clockwise. (See also chapter 5.2.1, Figure 5-2, page 9. The limit position in the direction of the 0°-end position is reached.)

4. Place the unit on a measuring table on its side, with the air connections facing up. 5. Undo the lock nut item 124 and twist the stop item 83.

To increase the area of the angle of traverse, unscrew the stop, but only to the max. projec-tion dimension B. To reduce the area of the angle of traverse, screw in the stop, but only to the min. projection dimension A. (For the projection dimensions A and B see Figure 5-5 and Table 5-1.) Once you have set the angle of traverse, tighten the lock nut item 124.

6. Load connections A and B alternately and allow the unit to swivel. 7. Repeatedly check the angle of traverse that you set. Repeat steps 5 and 6 until the desired

position is reached reliably, even after swiveling several times.

8. To set the second limit position, proceed as for steps 5 to 7, but this time load connection A. For angles between “0°” and “180°”, or “0°” and “90°” place additional steel balls (item 108), see chapter 9.2.1 Structure bills of materials for enclosed packs of rotor drives FAN 25-64, page 41, in the ball guideway. Please also note chapter 8.5 /Disassembly / assembly of the feed-through compact module on page 27. The number of steel balls needed for this and the permissible minimum and maximum projections for the stops item 83 are given in Table 5-1.

Adjusting the end position for hydraulic cushioning using shock absorbers:

Proceed as for steps 1 to 8 of the elastomer cushioning, but instead of the stops (item 83) - use shock absorbers (item 120) and instead of the lock nut (item 124) - use the shock absorber nut (item 121). For angles between “0°” and “180°”, or “0°” and “90°” place additional steel balls (item 108), see chapter 9.2.1 Structure bills of materials for enclosed packs of rotor drives FAN 25-64, page 41, in the ball guideway. The number of steel balls needed for this and the permissible minimum and maximum projections for the shock absorbers (item 120) for S-versions or stops (item 83) for E-versions are given in Table 5-1. To insert the balls, proceed as described in chapter 8.6 Replacing a shock absorber on S-versions on page 28 or chapter 8.7 Replacing an elastomer on E-versions on page 29 and insert the balls into the resulting opening.

IMPORTANT! It is imperative that you observe the permissible minimum and maximum projections; in other words, if you do not achieve an angle of traverse by adjusting the shock absorbers (item 120) or the stops (item 83), then this must be done by inserting or removing steel balls (item 108). At least one ball per side must be fitted, however.

6 Funktion und Handhabung

The rotary gripper module GSM is a combi-nation of rotary drive and gripper. By vent-ing the compressed air connections of the rotary part alternately, a so-called rotor in the bottom part of the unit rotates back and forth. The swivel movement is transferred to

the entire gripper module, which also ro-tates. Adjustable end stops are used for the fine adjustment of the end positions of the angle of traverse. A coarse adjustment of the end positions can be made by insert-ing balls. The speed should be regulated via external one-way flow control valves (restricted exhaust flow). By venting the compressed air connections of the gripper module alternately, a piston moves internally up and down. A mecha-nism transfers the piston motion into the direction of motion of the gripper‟s base jaws. As intended, the GSM unit is used for grip-ping and rotating masses.

8 Assembly (disassembly and assembly)

8.1 Notes on disassembly and assembly of unit

It is essential to observe the safety notes in chapter 1.4 page 4.

Please observe the following instructions to ensure correct functioning of the unit: 1. Required quality class for compressed air in accordance with

DIN ISO 8573-1: 6 4 4 2. Bare external steel parts must be oiled or greased. 3. Perform maintenance on the unit after the intervals specified in section 7.3 Maintenance

and servicing intervals on page 18 . During maintenance work, certain parts must be fitted with oil or grease (basic greas-

ing). Proceed here as per the instructions for disassembling and assembling in chapters 8.3 to 8.8 for the gripper module, for the feed-through compact module DKM and for the ro-tor drive FAN.

4. Every time you perform maintenance on the unit, the seals listed in the sealing kit (see chapter 9.3 Bills of materials for sealing kits on page 42) must be replaced. The com-plete sealing kit is available from SCHUNK.

5. The use of locking agents is described in the assembly description in chapter 8 Assembly (disassembly and assembly) , page 19 and chapter 7.1.2 Adhesives re-quired, page 17.

6. The used magnets have to be mounted in the correct position and are glued then. For this purpose, follow the instructions in chapter 8 Assembly (disassembly and assembly) , page 19 and chapter 7.1.2 Adhesives required, page 17.

7. Nuts and screws must be tightened to the tightening torques specified in chapters

7.2.1 Screw tightening torques for gripper modules GSM-R, 7.2.2 Screw tightening tor-

ques for feed-through compact module and 7.2.3 Screw tightening torques for rotor

drive FAN.

8.3 Disassembly / assembly of the unit into the basic modules

It is essential to observe the safety notes in chapter 1.4 page 4.

Please refer to the assembly drawing in chapter 8.2.1 page 20 for the disassembly / assembly of the unit into the basic modules.

For disassembly proceed as follows:

- Remove the compressed air lines. - Turn the gripper module (GSM) to the center position. - Remove the screws (item 104) and pull the feed-through compact module DKM (item

40) from the rotor drive FAN (item 50).

For assembly proceed as follows: - Turn the squared end of the rotor drive (item 53) with the longer side in the direction

of the center of air connections A and B. - Turn DKM stop 1 (item 81) with the magnets in the direction of the 90° position, i.e.

for 090-version one magnet points toward the 90° position and the other toward the 180° position.

Place the feed-through compact module DKM (item 40) onto the rotor drive FAN (item 50) and screw the two modules together using the screws (item 104). Note the permissible tightening torques for this (see Table 7-4 on page 18).

8.4.1 Version without gripping force safety device GSM-R

Please refer to the assembly drawing in chapter 8.2.3 Assembly drawing for gripper modules page 22 for the disassembly / assembly of the gripper modules.

GSM-R: For disassembly proceed as follows: 11. Remove all air connections. 12. Remove the pin rollers or solid shafts (item 113) out of the bushing (item 43) and remove

the base jaws (item 38) out of the bushing. 13. Twist the guide bushing (item 34 or item 39) in the bushing (item 43) by 90°. 14. Carefully pull the piston rod (item 4) up and out of the bushing (item 43). 15. Remove the magnet (item 120) out of the piston (item 31). See Table 8-2 Installing the cir-

cular magnets on page 26. 16. Unscrew the screw (item 110) and pull off the piston (item 31) from the piston rod (item 4).

Pull the sealing rings (item 192) down from the piston. 17. Pull the disk (item 26) and the guide bushing (item 34 or item 39) from the piston rod (item

4). Remove the sealing rings (item 100 and item 101) from the guide bushing. 18. Remove the pin rollers (item 114) out of the piston rod (item 4). 19. Clean all parts thoroughly and check all parts for damage and wear. 20. Replace the seals listed in the sealing kit (see sealing kit list, chapter 9.3 Bills of materials

for sealing kits on page 42).

GSM-R: For assembly proceed as follows: When assembling, note the permissible screw tightening torques, the lubricating greases and adhesives to be used in chapters 7.2 Screw tightening torques page 17, 7.1.1 Lubricants re-quired page 16 and 7.1.2 Adhesives required page 17) 1. Grease the guide grooves in the bushing (item 43). 2. Grease the seals (item 100 and 101) and fit these seals onto the guide bushing (item 34 or

item 39). 3. Insert the pin rollers (item 114) into the piston rod (item 4). 4. Grease the piston rod (item 4) in the area of the pin rollers separated from the bottom part

of the piston rod. (see lubricating greases in chapter 7.1.1 Lubricants required, page 16).

5. Slide the disk (item 26) and the guide bushing (item 34 or item 39) onto the piston rod (item 4).

6. Grease the seals (item 102) and pull them onto the piston (item 31). 7. Fasten the piston (item 31) onto the piston rod (item 4) with the aid of the screw (item 110). 8. Glue the magnet into the piston, as shown in Table 8-2 Installing the circular magnets on

page 26. 9. Insert the piston rod (item 4), with the parts attached, carefully into the bushing (item 43). 10. Twist the guide bushing (item 34 or 39) in the bushing (item 43) by 90° and thereby fasten

the guide bushing in the bushing. 11. Grease the bearing faces of the base jaws (item 38) and fit them into the bushing with the

aid of the pin rollers/solid shafts (item 113).

8.4.2 O.D gripping version with gripping force safety device - GSM-R

GSM-R-...-AS: For disassembly proceed as follows: 1. Repeat steps 1 to 10 for disassembling the gripper without gripping force safety device.

Instead of the fitting disk (item 26), a spring assembly is installed to ensure the gripping force is maintained.

2. Take care when undoing the guide bushing (item 34 or item 39) in step 3; it is spring loaded.

GSM-R-...-AS: For assembly proceed as follows: When assembling, note the permissible screw tightening torques, the lubricating greases and adhesives to be used in chapters 7.2 Screw tightening torques page 17, 7.1.1 Lubricants re-quired page 16 and 7.1.2 Adhesives required page 17) 1. Repeat steps 1 to 11 for assembling the gripper without gripping force safety device. How-

ever, a spring assembly is installed to ensure the gripping force is maintained. 2. Remember that for the version with gripping force safety device a spring assembly (item

121) is placed between the guide bushing (item 35 or 39) and piston (item 31) in step 5 of the assembly without gripping force safety device.

8.5 Disassembly / assembly of the feed-through compact module DKM

(item 40)

It is essential to observe the safety notes in chapter 1.4 page 4.

Important! If the housing (item 11), the bearing ring (item 82) or the bushing (item 44 or 46) is replaced, then a new set of fitting disks (item 111 and item 112) must be ordered. (see chapter 9, Bills of materials, page 31)

Please refer to the assembly drawing in chapter 8.2.2 Assembly drawing for the DKM and FAN modules page 21 for the disassembly / assembly of the gripper modules. For disassembly proceed as follows: In order to start disassembling the DKM, the steps in chapter 8.3 Disassembly / assembly of the unit into the basic modules, page 23 must have been completed. Remove the O-rings (item 109) and the DKM GSM ball guideway (item 85) from the DKM GSM housing.

Important! The balls (item 142) are loose in the DKM GSM ball guide (item 85).

1. Remove the balls (item 142). 2. Undo the screws (item 140) from the bushing of the gripper module (item 31-34) and pull

the DKM GSM stop 1 (item 81) and the set of fitting disks (item 111/112) off from the bush-ing (item 44 or 46).

3. Pull the gripper module (item 31-34) out of the DKM GSM housing. For elastomer versions proceed as follows: 4. Remove the stops (item 83) after first loosening the nuts (item 124). 5. Also remove the pin rollers (item 122). For shock absorber versions proceed as follows: 4. Remove the absorbers (item 120) after first loosening the nuts (item 121). 5. Also remove the sleeves (item 122).

For assembly proceed as follows: When assembling, note the permissible screw tightening torques, the lubricating greases and adhesives to be used in chapters 7.2 Screw tightening torques page 17, 7.1.1 Lubricants re-quired page 16 and 7.1.2 Adhesives required page 17)

1. Before starting to assemble the unit, read chapter 8.1 Notes on disassembly and as-sembly of unit, page 19.

2. Grease the DKM GSM housing (item 11) and the bushing (item 44 or item 46) at the bearing faces and bearing points.

3. Grease the bearing ring (item 82).

4. Insert the bearing ring, with the outer chamfer facing down, into the DKM GSM hous-ing.

5. Grease the O-rings (item 103) and fit them into the grooves on the bushing (item 44 or item 46).

6. Insert the gripper module into the DKM GSM housing. 7. Adjust the axial bearing seat of the bushing to suit the fitting disks (item 111 or 112). 8. Place the DKM stop 1 (item 81) onto the bushing and fasten it to the bushing using

the screws (item 140). 9. Grease the DKM ball guide (item 85). 10. Turn the bushing so that the DKM stop 1 (item 81) is facing the opposite direction to

the bores for the cushioning. For elastomer versions proceed as follows:

11. Grease the pin rollers (item 122) and insert the pin rollers into the holes provided. 12. Place one ball (item 142) into each housing in front of the pin roller (item 122) and

screw the DKM stop 2 (item 83) into the housing. For shock absorber versions proceed as follows:

11. Grease the sleeves (item 122) and push the sleeves onto the absorbers (item 120). Guide the sleeve into the hole provided in the DKM GSM housing (item 11) and screw the absorber into the housing.

12. Place one ball (item 142) into each housing in front of the sleeve (item 122). 13. 14. Fit the lock nut (item 124) onto the stops/shock absorbers. 15. Then screw the DKM module (item 11) to the rotor drive FAN with the aid of the

screws (item 104). For this note the assembly of the basic modules in chapter 8.3, page 23.

8.6 Replacing a shock absorber on S-versions

It is essential to observe the safety notes in chapter 1.4 page 4.

Remove the compressed air lines The shock absorbers have a limited tool life, depending on their wear. Their function should therefore be checked regularly. The shock absorber operates correctly if the unit moves gently into the end positions. When replacing, pay attention to the control number „-347‟ at the end of the damper designation. These specially tested shock absorbers are to be purchased exclu-sively from SCHUNK. When replacing an absorber, you should order the complete additional bill of materials for hy-draulic cushioning. When replacing proceed as follows:

1. Loosen the lock nut (item 124). 2. Remove the shock absorber (item 121) from the unit, the sleeve (item 122) should also

be disassembled. If this cannot be detached together with the shock absorber, a small bar magnet or turning the unit by hand may be of help.

Clean all parts thoroughly and check all parts for damage and wear.

Assembly is carried out in reverse order, then the end positions are to be readjusted, see chapter 5.2.5 Adjusting the end positions, page 11.

8.7 Replacing an elastomer on E-versions

It is essential to observe the safety notes in chapter 1.4 page 4.

Remove the compressed air lines The elastomers have a limited tool life, depending on their wear. Their function should therefore be checked regularly. The elastomer operates correctly if the unit moves gently into the end positions. When replacing an elastomer, you should order the complete additional bill of materials for elastomer cushioning. When replacing proceed as follows:

1. Loosen the lock nut (item 124). 2. Remove the DKM stop (item 83) from the unit, the pin roller (item 122) should also be

disassembled. If this cannot be detached together with the DKM stop (item 83), a small bar magnet or turning the unit by hand may be of help.

Clean all parts thoroughly and check all parts for damage and wear.

Assembly is carried out in reverse order, then the end positions are to be readjusted, see chapter 5.2.5 Adjusting the end positions, page 11.

8.8 Disassembly / assembly of the rotor drive FAN (item 50)

It is essential to observe the safety notes in chapter 1.4 page 4.

Please refer to the assembly drawing in chapter 8.2.2 Assembly drawing for the DKM and FAN modules page 21 for the disassembly / assembly of the gripper modules.

For disassembly proceed as follows: 1. Remove the compressed air lines. 2. Undo the screws (item 101) and remove the upper housing (item 51) from the lower housing

(item 52). 3. Remove the O-rings (item 109) and the guide sleeve (item 108). 4. Remove the rotor (item 53) out of the housing (item 52) and pull the bearings (item 100) off

from the rotor. 5. Pull the O-rings (item 110) down from the rotor. 6. Remove the stop rotor (item 58) and pull the compression seal (item 59) off from the stop

rotor. 7. Clean all parts thoroughly and check all parts for damage and wear. 8. Replace the seals listed in the sealing kit (see sealing kit list, chapter 9.3 Bills of materials

for sealing kits on page 42).

For assembly proceed as follows: 1. Grease the upper and lower housing (item 51 and 52) on the inside. 2. Grease the entire stop rotor (item 58). 3. Pull the compression seal (item 59) onto the stop rotor (item 58) in the correct position and

grease the two parts again. 4. Insert the stop rotor into the hole provided in the upper rotor housing (item 51) in the correct

position. 5. Grease the entire rotor (item 53), except the squared end. 6. Pull the two O-rings (item 110) onto the rotor and grease the O-rings. 7. Then place the ball bearing onto the rotor. 8. Insert the rotor, with the squared end facing down, into the upper housing. Move the rotor

into the 90° position, in other words opposite the stop rotor (item 53). 9. To assemble with the lower housing (item 52), place the guide sleeve (item 108) into the

upper housing (item 51). 10. Grease the four O-rings (item 109) and place them into the machined faces provided for this

purpose in the lower housing (item 52). 11. Fit the upper to the lower housing and screw the two together using screws (item 101). The

screws (item 101) must be tightened „crosswise‟. 12. Grease the two O-rings (item 109) and insert them into the upper housing (item 51) into the

recesses provided for this purpose. 13. Fit the guide sleeve (item 108) or the cylindrical pin (item 107) onto the upper housing (item

51).

10.1.1 Assembly and set-up MMS-P 22

Technical data on the MMS-P sensors can be found in the data sheets for sensors.

Note - The GSM products will be prepared for the use of MMS-P only for delivery dates

after 01/01/08.

The V2-M8-4-2XM8-3 distributor is used to convert the 4-pin connector plug of the MMS-P 22-S-M8-PNP sensor to two standard M8 plugs with 3 pins each. The MMSK-P 22-S-PNP features a 2-meter cable with open strands so that it can be connected by means of terminal contacts.

Caution! Sensor can be damaged during assembly. - Do not exceed the maximum tightening torque of 10 Ncm for the set screws

Note - When adapter plates made of ferro-magnetic material (e.g. standard construction

steel) are used, the gripper must first be mounted on the adapter plate before set-ting the positions of the magnetic switches. This is necessary because the use of a magnetizable material would change the switching position of the sensor.

Slide the magnetic switches /1/ and /2/ (see Figure 10-4: Position and installation of the magnetic switch MMS-P Item /1/ and /2/) into the grooves until they bear against the stops /3/ (if applicable, see Figure 10-4: Position and installation of the magnetic switch MMS-P Item /3/). If there is no terminal stop, then slide the magnetic switch according to dimension I2 (top edge of the non-rotating housing up to the front side of sensor) or according to dimension I1 (top edge of the non-rotating housing up to the double arrow on sensor) and then clamp. If you have to mount a new stop /3/ for MMS-P, then you will find its position dimension I3, in addition to dimensions I1 and I2 in Table 10-1 Installation dimensions for MMS-P. Please note the following when assigning the signals:

/1/ MMS-P (left groove) Monitor gripper position 1 and gripper position 2 in left angle of rotation end position (signals SGL1 and SGL2)

/2/ MMS-P (right groove) Monitor gripper position 1 and gripper position 2 in right angle of rotation end position (signals SGL1 and SGL2)

/3/ FOR MMS-P Determination of the clamping position of the sensor MMS-P

Monitor GSM locations/positions/end positions: SGL1: Left angle of rotation end position, gripper position 1 SGL2: Left angle of rotation end position, gripper position 2 SGR1: Right angle of rotation end position, gripper position 1 SGR2: Right angle of rotation end position, gripper position 2 The gripper positions 1 and 2 have to be clearly defined. If one of the gripper position should not correspond to the defined gripper position 1 or 2, the position of the swivel angle can not be interrogated with an MMS-P. If the angle of rotation end positions are at 20° and 160°, then simply exchange the assignment of the signals, i.e. exchange the SGL signals with the SGR signals.
