Wednesday, Half day excursion to Dubrovnik Countryside, June 24th, 2015 –

Konavle valley and Cavtat

Approximate duration 7:00 hours

09:00 Depart from Hotel Lero with photo stop on a

hill above Dubrovnik, a high panoramic point from

where you can see entire Dubrovnik as well as the

all islands around.

10:00 Arrival to Cavtat (antique city Epidaurus or

Ragusa Vecchia), small seaside town situated on

peninsula with its centuries old harmonious

architecture and rich history sights and today one of

the most attractive destination on the Adriatic coast.

In Cavtat we will see the birth house of Vlaho Bukovac, one of the most famous Croatian painter.

The monumental features of the Bukovac House

are not only its architecture, garden space and

the location in the very heart of the town, but

above all, shows it to be a typical Dalmatian

19th century bourgeois house: stone-built, two-

storey building with a central court-yard and a

spacious back garden. Particularly interesting

are the newly discovered wall paintings which

cover the old walls in the eastern part of the

house, made by the young Bukovac before

leaving to Paris.

There are about thirty paintings displayed, along with a part of the furniture collection, every day and

personal items from the time of Vlaho Bukovac.

We will have time at leisure in Cavtat to have coffee.

12:00 Depart to Čilipi village, the biggest settlement in Konavle and surely the best place to meet the

traditions of Konavle. In the centre of the place with the largest church in Konavle, the parish church

of St. Nicholas, a square formed up, surrounded by official and

family stone houses, in order to create a unique urban micro unit.

In Čilipi we will see ethnographical museum that bears rich

ethnographic source material from the entire region of Konavle

(with accent to Konavle national costumes also showed the wealth

and especially the social status of the woman (girl, wife, widow

and similar)), and that is presented in the authentic ambience of

the Konavle stone house.

13:00 The tour takes us on country roads that

pass through picturesque small villages, and

on our journey we will visit medieval

watermills and spring of river Ljuta with

presentation of flour production on an old,

traditional way. You will be offered with

welcome local liquor, figs, walnuts and

homemade arancini - the candid sour and

sweet orange peel sweets.

We will taste special Dalmatian smoked ham

and local cheese, have vine tasting of few

red & white vines and local bread and

conclude our daily excursion.

Around 16:00 we shall be back in Hotel Lero.

Including: guide and coach at disposal, entrance fees to Bukovac Gallery and Ethnographical museum

in Čilipi, flour presentation with welcome drink and snack that consist of Dalmatian smoked ham,

cheese, bread and red & white wine tasting.
