Af ter spending 17 years at Hamamatsu Cast le, Lord Tokugawa Ieyasu went on to unite Japan. From being a small provincial lord, he became Shogun with supreme power over the whole country. He is a prime example of rising through the ranks. In view of his close attachment to Hamamatsu, to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the incorporation of the modern city, the city mascot was changed, enabling Lord Ieyasu to live here again as Ieyasu-kun, the successful lord. All around town, you’ll see this inspiring figure.

Hamamatsu & Lake HamanaShizuoka Prefecture
During spring through summer you can have great fun digging up clams from sand under the shallow pools of water that fringe Lake Hamana.
This floral park on the shores of Lake Hamana comprises some 3,000 plant species that delight the eye. From the 1,300 flowering cherry trees to tulips, roses, and other blooms, throughout the year you can enjoy the beauty of flowers.
At Kanzanji Hot Spring, luxuriate in a spa bath while looking out over Lake Hamana.
Ladies like Mikkabi Hot Spring because it makes their skin feel smooth.
There are four hot springs around Lake Hamana: the Kanzanji hot spring, the Bentenjima hot spring, the Yuto hot spring, and the Mikkabi hot spring.
Some 4,300 trees representing 160 tropical, subtropical, and indigenous Japanese species are cultivated in this botanical park. In addition to enjoying the sight of trees in bloom, you can also pick a wide variety of seasonal fruit.
