    GLORIOUS UNITED MAN

Professor Vincent Wong, College Alumnus, Awarded the Ten Outstanding Young Persons

(Extracted from Issue 2, July-December 2012, Faculty Newsletter, Faculty of Medicine, The Chinese University of Hong Kong 7 12 )

Professor Vincent Wong, Department of Medicine and Therapeutics (99/MED)

It is my pleasure to share the announcement of the Ten Outstanding Young Persons Selection with my colleagues and students. As I work in the field of medical research, my work is not just a personal achievement but is the product of my excellent team. This award thus rightfully belongs to CUHK and the Center for Liver Health.

I have received literally everything from CUHK undergraduate study, doctoral degree, clinical training, you name it. While at times I cannot help wondering what life would be like elsewhere, I met my three most important mentors at CUHK. Professor Joseph Sung taught me integrity and humility, Professor Francis Chan showed me how to conduct studies seriously and carefully, and time and again, Professor Henry Chan encouraged me to stand up against adversity. In fact, my first three years of medical research went by without a single significant publication or research grant. It was my mentors who encouraged me to learn from previous mistakes and keep on trying. If I had not been granted another chance, I would not be here to share my story today. In my opinion, this is exactly the spirit of CUHK, where generations and generations of youngsters have been encouraged to attempt, make mistakes, learn and finally excel.
