The Park has a hill named Tsukimidai, also well known as Tsukimi no Yama, or Moon Viewing Hill, where Ariwara no Yukihira missed Kyoto and his life there and healed his heart by viewing the moon. He was one of the real-life figures who inspired Murasaki Shikibu when she created the hero Hikaru Genji for The Tale of Genji. Meanwhile, the botanical garden area is located on the site of a mansion of the Okazaki family, which headed the Okazaki conglomerate, on which the conglomerate depicted in Toyoko Yamasaki's novel Splender of the family is said to have been modeled.
