career advancement In this workshop, participants will examine the differences between coaches, mentors and sponsors, and the implications each has on professional development. -‐ articulate the importance of different styles of influencing -‐ understand your own style of influencing others, when it is effective and when it is not -‐ appreciate others’ styles of influencing.
The heart of leadership is effectively influencing others. Learn about five critical influence strategies—rationalizing, asserting, negotiating, inspiring and bridging—and the situations where each style is most effective. Each participant will gain insight as to her favored style and to the effectiveness of this style in different leadership situations. In this interactive workshop, all attendees will complete an Influence Style Indicator and leave with a workbook that will help them apply what they’ve learned to strengthen and demonstrate their leadership voice.

When core leadership competencies – making decisions, taking risks, accessing creativity and maintaining resilience – are challenged or inhibited by self-‐doubt, leadership power is significantly diminished. This workshop presents a model for creating an inner coach that counteracts the inner critic. Even highly-‐successful women will benefit by exploring the origin and tenacity of the inner critic, learning specific guidelines for redirecting self-‐talk from negativity to positivity and understanding the brain’s capacity to generate new neural pathways that promote greater self-‐confidence. Become your own empowered inner coach with increased skills to influence change, inspire work teams and build environments of mutual support.

This year’s conference opens with a special session led by the HBA’s 2012 Woman of the Year Carolyn Buck Luce. Carolyn will lead a session titled, “The new healthcare ecosystem: From developing new medicines to delivering healthy outcomes.” Trends such as the patent cliff, decreasing R&D productivity, pricing pressures, globalization and shifting demographics have transformed the industry’s long-‐standing vertically integrated blockbuster model (Pharma 1.0) into today’s Pharma 2.0 business model. Carolyn will discuss how the industry is now on the cusp of its biggest transformation yet, as it begins to morph into a new healthcare “ecosystem,” which has been defined as Pharma 3.0.

Noreen Fraser, award-‐winning television producer, responded to her diagnosis of stage IV metastatic breast cancer by a co-‐creating and co-‐producing the 2008 Stand Up 2 Cancer network television special that raised over $100 million for cancer research. She then founded of the Noreen Fraser Foundation (NFF). NFF supports translational cancer research aimed at developing new prevention methods, diagnostic tools and non-‐toxic therapies to treat women’s cancers. One NFF Program, Men, is dedicated to supporting women's cancer research through education, mobilization and fundraising initiatives.
Pat Mitchell, president and CEO of The Paley Center for Media was the first woman and the first journalist to be named president and CEO of the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS). Pat is a director on the corporate boards of Bank of America and Sun Microsystems. She also serves on many nonprofit boards, including a founding president of former Russian president Mikhail Gorbachev’s global environmental organization, Green Cross International; VDay, a global movement to end violence against women; an advisor to the Center for Public Leadership at the Kennedy School of Harvard University; and a trustee of the Mayo Clinic. She is also a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Pat was named as one of the League of Extraordinary Women by Fast Company magazine.
Bonnie St. John is a highly successful author, Rhodes Scholar, White House official, Olympic athlete, and an entrepreneurial businesswoman. To research her latest book, How Great Women Lead, she and her teen-‐aged daughter traveled all over the world interviewing fascinating women leaders, including Hillary Clinton, Condoleezza Rice, the President of Liberia, movie stars, fashion designers, CEOs and many more. Bonnie is perhaps best known for being the first African-‐American ever to win Olympic medals in ski racing.
