WATER SUPPLY DISRUPTION: FIRGROVETuesday 14 April 2015
The City of Cape Town’s Water and Sanitation Department will be completing a zero pressuretest on the water supply zone in Firgrove on Tuesday 14 April 2015.
This process will result in the disruption of the water supply to Firgrove from 22:00 until04:00 the following morning.
Careful consideration has been given to the planning of this work to ensure minimaldisruption to the water supply in the affected area.
The water supply network across the City is divided into reticulation zones which are smallerand much more manageable sections of the large network for purposes of maintenanceand upgrades. This work forms part of the City’s Water Demand Management Plan and willsignificantly reduce the occurrence of pipe bursts and the subsequent water losses.
Residents are advised to store water in clean sealed containers for domestic use duringthis period.
The City regrets any inconvenience caused.

A Peace Walk was held in Sir Lowry’s Pass Village on Saturday 28 March. The walk, initiated by the KingdomBuilders Ministries International congregation, was aimed at ridding the community of gangsterism and toregain peace in the community, after a recent spate of violence that ended in two fatal shootings.

Dis hier dat hy besef het dat hy dit genietom met mense te werk en die gemeenskapte help waar hy kan.
“Ek het gesien hoe moeilik dit vir menseiswatniegeldhet om ’nprostese tebekostignie.Ekhetbesefdatekietsdaaromtrentkandoen”, vertel hy.
Sedertdien het Steyn talle lang afstandstaptogte aangepak om geld in te samel.
In 2012 het Steyn besluit om sy organisa-sie, die Paul Steyn Foundation te begin. Hyhet tot op hede reeds agt persone gehelp om’n prostese te bekom.
“Prostese is baie duur en dit vat tyd omdie geld in te samel. ’n Paar individue enmaatskappye in die Helderberg skenk ge-reeldgeldenekisewigdankbaardaarvoor”,sê Steyn.
Sy organisasie fokus nie net op Suid Afri-ka nie, maar ook op buurlande.
“SelfsmenseuitNoord-Afrikakontakonsen ek wens ek kon almal help”, sê hy.
Volgens Paul gaan die kandidate deur ’nkeuringsproses.
“Ons kyk na die persoon se omstandighe-de en hoe groot ’n verskil die prostese in diepersoonselewekanmaak.Ennatuurlikkrykinders voorkeur”, vertel Steynmet passie.
Steyn is ’n natuur- en geskiedenisliefheb-ber en geniet vreeslik die besoeke aan kleindorpies langs sy staproetes.
Hy en sy span het by die Lotto-fonds vir
finansiering aansoek gedoen om sodoendemeer mense te kan help.
“My lewensmissie is om mense te kanhelp. Dis al wat ek wil doen vir die res vanmylewe,stapenmensedaardeurhelp”,ver-tel hy met ’n vonkel in sy oë.
Steyn se avonture is onlangs op die web-tuiste, Awesome South Africans, gepubli-seer.
“Ek is geëerd om in dieselfde kategorieas soveel andermerkwaardigeSuid-Afrika-ners geplaas te word” sê hy van die geleent-heid.
Steyn durf weer die pad vanaf Parys naOrkney aan op Maandag 13 April.
“Ons sal in Potchefstroom, Stilfontein enKlerksdorp aangaan en ons eindig in Ork-ney. In Stilfontein sal ek ’n prostese aan ’nblinde jong vrou oorhandig”, sê hy.
Hy is lief vir die lewe en dit wat hy doen.“Die lewe is baie mooi en staan nie stil

The postal service in Firgrove, situatedamidst a building that is being demol-ished, will be moved.
The post boxes are currently on privateland in front of a building that used to accom-modateasupermarket.Thebuildingadjacentto this housed a liquor shop and apartmentson its first floor.
Martie Gilchrist, spokesperson for theSouth African Postal Services says the postalservices will be accommodated at the ShellGarage on the R102.
MornèDreyer, co-ownerof thepropertybe-says the buildings are being demolished tomake way for a new development.
Residents recently voiced their unhappi-nessaboutstruggling toaccess theirpostbox-
es among the rubble.“No-one cares about what happens here,
and in what state the postal service is,” saysHelenSylvester,aresidentofFirgrove for thepast 38 years. Sylvester says sewage had alsorecentlyfloodedthearea, leavinganunbeara-ble stench.
Another resident said his wife no longercollects their mail as the area is deserted andunsafe.
According to Dreyer he informed the postoffice of the planned demolition about threeyears ago when they started negotiations forthe new development.
However, Gilchrist says no notification ofthe demolition has been received.
According to Gilchrist a meeting was heldwith the management of the Shell service sta-tion, but a date for the relocation of the postalservices still needs to be confirmed.

Ursula Turck, Gerhard EckleyandWilna Eybers notched up sev-eral podium finishes at WPAevents and representedWP at spe-cific athletic disciplines during2014. They were all rewarded fortheir sterling efforts by beingawarded Elite WPA numbers.Ursula Turck finished first in
severalmarathons and also repre-sented WP at the SA Marathonchampionship. She was also thethirdveteranwomanat last year’sComrades Marathon.Gerhard Eckley achieved sever-
al top placed finishes in speedwalking for boys u.13 and u.15 andalso represented WP at the South
African School Championshipsduring 2014 and 2015.Wilna Eybers chalked up sever-
al wins in WPA cross countryevents and 10 km races. She alsorepresented WP at the SA CrossCountry champs in 2014 and in10 km races this year.Another well-known Strand
Athletics Club athlete, AldrinSmit (whoisUrsulaTurck’sbroth-er) competed at the WP MastersChampionship recently and re-ceived one silver and four goldmedals.The gold medals were for the
