Helen Keller was born in Alabama in the United States in 1880.

At 19 months old, she fell ill probably with scarlet fever.

She became blind and deaf soon. As she couldn’t hear other people, she didn’t learn to speak.

When Helen Keller was 6 years old, Alexander Graham Bell examined her.

He was a doctor for speech correction. Bell sent a special teacher, Anne

Sullivan, to stay with Helen as her governess.

Sullivan was herself a remarkable woman.

She was very patient and taught Helen that things had names.

She taught Keller to finger spell the alphabets.

Sullivan helped her understand names for things that she could feel.

Despite her blindness, Keller wrote numerous articles and several books such as “The Story of my Life "and “Helen Keller's Journal”.

Helen Keller died when she was 88 tears old.

She is remembered as The Woman of Great Courage and Intelligence.
