 rapid Thermal cycling Tests
Small tempering baths can be used for rapid thermal
cycling tests. Temperature tests and preliminary ins-
pections of material samples can be quickly and ea-
sily performed in the bath opening. The use of more
powerful circulation thermostats is recommended for
temperature tests, which require a wide temperature
range from -125 °C to +425 °C.
The temperature control units can simulate various
temperature conditions depending on the type of
product. The automotive sector often uses tempera-
tures from -35 °C to +85 °C. Our temperature control
units also achieve significantly higher or lower tempe-
ratures as required
Flexible alternative to a material Testing chamber
Our temperature control units can be used instead
of a climatic chamber. They can be flexibly used for
various tests and are often cheaper than climatic
chambers. Another advantage is the high heating and
cooling speed of Unistats. They transfer high heating
and cooling capacities quickly and precisely, which is a
significant advantage in many functional and material
tests.
 Test Benches
Huber provides various individually designed tempe-
rature control units in any size for temperature testing
of engines, transmissions and other components. The
temperature control systems can be easily integrated
into existing test benches and ensure reproducible
temperatures.
Huber can design and supply external heat exchanger
solutions in separate or integrated version if your test
requirements require separate primary and secondary
circuits due to material incompatibilities, pressure, vis-
cosity, flow rates etc.
 Direct operation with Water glycol
Many of our Unistats can use water-glycol as tempe-
rature control medium:
• From -35 °C to +95 °C:
Petite Fleur, Grande Fleur
• From -30 °C to +95 °C:
Unistat Tango w/wl, 405/w, 410/w, 425/w, 430/w,
510/w, 520/w, 527w, 530w, 610/w, 615, 620/w,
625/w, 630/w, 635/w, 640/w
We can also help you on other applications, such as
the use of non-electroconductive temperature control
media.
There are numerous applications for Huber temperature control units in the automotive industry. Typical appli-
cations include environmental simulations, material testing and temperature-dependent stress and load tests for
materials, gears, bearings and engine components. Other common areas of application are research tasks, test
series and quality inspections of batteries, rechargeable batteries and electronic components. When it comes to
the design, construction and operation of test rigs in the automotive industry, researchers and engineers around
the world rely on Huber temperature control unts. Many international projects demonstrate the expertise of
Huber Kältemaschinenbau in the engineering and construction of test benches and machines for temperature
testing.

Huber temperature control units are used for the cyc-
lic heating / cooling of petrol or diesel. Cyclic heating
and cooling of fuels tests the life of fuel tank sur-
faces. Particularly dynamic temperature control sys-
tems with rapid temperature change capabilities and
a wide temperature range are suitable for such tests.
The test container is made of a stainless steel plate
and has a capacity of ca. 30 to 50 liters. A double-
walled tank can control the temperature in a range
from +15 °C to +60 °C with a deviation of +/-3 °C,
starting at an ambient temperature of +20 °C.
Transmission fluid tests with operating temperatures
from -40 °C to +250 °C may be performed with a Unis-
tat model. The gear oil is pumped through a plate heat
exchanger and passes through different cycles at extre-
me temperatures.

Thermoregulation of motor Fuels
Transmission Fluid Test
Components of air conditioning systems are exposed
to frequent temperature variations. Special test ben-
ches for air-conditioning test components of heating
and air conditioning units, condensers, air ducts and
the efflux at varying temperatures between -90 °C
and +150 °C.
The Charpy Impact Test tests the deformation capa-
city of a material under various load conditions as
constantly changing temperatures make components
fragile and brittle. Materials often withstand loads at
room temperature but fail at low temperatures. Refri-
geration batch circulators are suitable for testing the
material behavior of various components.
The Vicat test determines characteristics about the
softening point of plastics. A circular needle with a
flat end is pressed onto the surface of the sample at a
defined compressive stress and at a constant increase
in the ambient temperature. Depending on the test
condition selected, the temperature must be cons-
tantly increased by 50 °C or 120 °C per hour until the
Vicat Softening Temperature (VST) is reached and the
needle is penetrated 1 mm into the material.

Huber provides various circulation thermostats for this
type of temperature control applications according to
the temperature range required, such as:
• Ministat 240
• CC-515

Diesel fuel may cause an engine not to start in colder temperatu-
res. The most important test for the low-temperature resistance of
diesel fuel according to EN 590 is the filterability according to CFPP,
the Cold Filter Plugging Point test according to EN 116. Depending
on the crude oil composition, paraffin crystals may be released at
temperatures below the freezing point, which would increase the
flow resistance in the fuel filter to a point that sufficient fuel delive-
ry becomes impossible. Adequate additives can modify the crystal
formation so that the crystals become smaller and can pass the fuel
filter.

Fogging Test system
The fogging tester by EKO INSTRUMENTS uses the
immersion circulator thermostat CC-E to maintain the
temperature of the oil bath at +100 °C. The fogging
tester’s slots can simultaneously hold eight samples.
Placing the thermostat in the middle of the bath en-
sures a uniform temperature is maintainded for all
samples.

Fogging Tester
We offer various temperature control units for the
fogging test (according to EN 14288 and DIN 75201)
of individual car interior components in the labora-
tory. Particularly the CC/MPC thermostats and Mini-
chillers are suitable for testing the degasification of
individual material components, which condense in
the component’s environment.
A sample is heated with our temperature control unit
to measure the condensable components of a com-
ponent. The volatiles escape from the component and
condense in the (colder) environment of the compo-
nent. The MPC and CC series is used to heat the bath
and a Minichiller ensures proper cooling.
 application:
A combination of immersion circulator thermostats
and circulating coolers is suitable for this application,
such as:
• MPC-E and CC-E
• Minichiller

AdBlue® is the brand name of a urea-based liquid
that is used in the exhaust gas post-treatment of
auto mobile diesel engines to reduce nitrogen oxi-
des. The application occurs in the SCR catalytic
converter (Selective Catalytic Reduction, SCR). The
se lective catalytic reduction reduces the emission
of nitrogen oxides (NOx) by approximately 90% (in
stationary operation). This liquid is a water-clear,
synthetically manufactured 32.5 per-
cent ultrapure urea solution in demine-
ralized water.
The AdBlue® trademark is a trademark of the German Association of the Au-tomotive Industry (VDA) and is based on uniform ISO and DIN quality stan-dards around the world.
Car body components are exposed daily to temperature
variations, humidity and environmental influences.
These environmental conditions are simulated in spe-
cial test chambers with fog, dry periods, brines and
other corrosive solutions.

Huber provides compact refrigeration circulators for
this type of temperature control application with spe-
cial baths that have been specially configured for the-
se requirements.

Test Bench stress Test
Battery Test
All vehicle components must be subjected to various
stress tests – under extreme climatic conditions, if ne-
cessary – to meet the quality requirements of car ma-
nufacturers and their customers. From safety belts to
power window systems and brakes, all components
are subjected to an endurance test at ambient and
extreme temperatures. Any manual and electronic
components must have functionality guaranteed both
at -40 °C and +90 °C. Components must withstand
these loads with cyclically changing temperatures for
several weeks or months.
 recommendation:
Huber recommends the use of special solutions,
which are suitable for rapid temperature changes and
highly cyclical temperature applications. We would be
happy to advise you.
Lithium-ion batteries are also used in electric cars.
These must pass various temperature tests prior to
installation. An ambient temperature from -20 °C to
+40 °C is generated in a climatic chamber for this pur-
pose. A Unistat is connected to a test point within the
climatic chamber with hoses, which can now control
the temperature from -40 °C to +100 °C.

Suitable devices for this application include:
• Unistat 510w
• Unistat 530w
