Legendaryanimator Walt Disneysdream, materialised by histeam of imagineers into theworlds most frequentedentertainment theme parks,also remains the dream oftravellers across the world.

And this dream came truefor five Indian families, whowon an all-expenses paid tripeach to the five Disneydestinations via the popularJet Set Go contest. Invited to

track the experience of onesuch family, the Singhs fromMumbai, at the Walt DisneyWorld Resort in Orlando,Florida, one realised theextent to which a visit toDisneyland strikes a chordwith adults and kids al ike. Itwas magical being there, not

just for my 12-year-old son

Aman and seven-year-olddaughter Anandita, but alsofor my wife Ritu and I,says Jaswinder Singh Vig, a

ists every year. It is said to beWalt Disneys dream project,and the legend workedtirelessly to plan out theminutest detail of the com-plex. Ironically, he died of can-cer in 1966, before the resortcould be completed. It was for-mally launched in 1971.

The legacy of the Walt Disney World

Nine of the worldsmost famous historicbuildings are set to

undergo restoration works,thanks to a $1.5 milliongrant from American Expressand the World MonumentsFund (WMF). Endangeredarchitectural masterpieceswill be restored with the fund-ing, which is part of the twice-yearly World Monuments

Watch programme that callsattention to threatenedcultural heritage sites.

Set to receive the fundingwill be Antoni Gaudis GellPavilions in Barcelona, whichwill be made more accessibleto the public. The 18th centuryTenyuji Temple in Ogatsu,Japan, will be restored follow-

ing its destruction in the2011 Thoku earthquake andtsunami.

The churches of SaintMerri and Notre-Dame-de-Lorette in France will seeboth their structures andinterior artworks restored,whilst Pokfulam Village inHong Kong will undergopreservation works. The 16thcentury Farnese Aviaries in

Rome, the Fundidora Park inMexico and Sulgrave Manorin the UK will also receive ashare of the funding. Sir GilesGilbert Scotts graceful ArtDeco Battersea Power Stationin London and The House ofWonders in Tanzania will berepaired as well.
