    The Process

    1. Mrs. Hembree, librarian and Mrs. Lustgarten, art experience leaderworked collaboratively on this project.

    2. Students created the art with Mrs. Lustgarten. The pages were thenscanned and imported into a powerpoint slide.

    3. In Mrs. Hembrees library class, they read about hippos using booksand the database PebbleGo.

    4. In groups they wrote a fact about an aspect of the hippo. They thentyped their fact onto a scanned image of their original art in

powerpoint. The students learned to change color and size oftext. They narrated their slide and Mrs. Hembree compiled theslides into both a powerpoint e-Book and pdf style e-Book.

    5. Fifth grade students created the Works Consulted slide for the firstgrade students.

    Books to Africa Project

This book is part of a 2012-2013 school-wide libraryliteracy project started by Mrs. Hembree after she foundhundreds of childrens picture books not being used.

Volunteer students formed a planning team, named theproject Books to Africa and designed a logo.

They raised money for postage to send books to four

partner schools in Ghana, Lesotho, and South Africa. Each class learned about an aspect of Africa in theirlibrary class and created a joint project reflecting theirlearning.
