James Clerk Maxwell 1831-1879

Electric and MagneticTheory

• Theorized that light was an electromagnetic wave.

Experimentally verified Maxwell’s Theories.

The italian “inventor of radio”. Improved and commercialized Hertz’

apparatus. Used for radio telegraphy

 1895- sent and received his first radio signal in Italy

1899 - flashed the first wireless signal across the English Channel

This was the first successful transatlantic radiotelegraph message in 1902.

Inventor of the: – feedback amplifier – electronic oscillator – super-heterodyne receiver – FM radio

• His inventions allowed for the transmission of voice and music

 Arthur Atwater Kent 1920

• Arthur Atwater Kent, Sr. (1873–1949) American inventor and prominent radio manufacturer based in Philadepia.

• In 1921, he patented the modern form of the automobile ignition coil.

 1921- produced his first radio components, selling the do-it-yourself kits consisting of "breadboards" that could be assembled by early radio enthusiasts.

In 1925, the Atwater Kent Manufacturing Company became the largest maker of radios in the United States.

- influenced by the Greeks, with whom they traded.- 750 BC the Greeks established a colony on the

island of Ischia in the Bay of Naples. - founded colonies on mainland Italy such as

Reggio Calabria.
