PachinkoCombination Sounds

We can combine some hiragana characters to make combination sounds which we need for words like isha (いしゃ) which means

doctor.

For example…

Ki + ya = Kyaき + や = きゃ

Mi + Yu = Myuみ + ゆ = みゅ

All you need to do is combine an ‘i’ sound (like ki or mi) with a Y sound – ya, yu or yo.

Practice by writing each of the combination sounds into either hiragana or romaji.

Make sure the ‘y’ sound is written a little bit smaller than the ‘I’ sound.
