HP Mosaic – Improved Editing UI
IntroductionThe Mosaic workflow steps remain the same as in HP SmartStream Designer 10 for InDesign CC2014
• Design an InDesign document
• Select a DB file
• Define an Image channel as HP Mosaic
• Edit the Image channel to select the Seed files
• Click OK

Editing, except for selecting Seed files, is an optional step. It changes the calculations done by the SW to create the Mosaic resulting files for the same Seed files.

HP Mosaic – Opening the Edit HP Mosaic window
To open the Edit HP Mosaic window:• Double-click the channel row in the Channel
palette
• In the Image Channel window that opens:
a. Verify that the Type is Dynamic Image
b. Verify that the application is HP Mosaic
c. Click Settings
• In the Dynamic Personalization Settings window:
d - Click Save As to save a copy of the Template*
e - In the mapping table, assign a DB field that contains numeric data (whole numbers, bigger than 0)
f – Click Edit
*The default template file is protected and cannot be edited

HP Mosaic – Edit at Seed Set level• A few Seed files can be gathered into a Seed Set.
Edit at Seed Set LevelAt this level it is possible to:
A. Delete Set
B. Duplicate Set
C. Edit Set
It is possible to view the following parameters:D. Range - the maximum number
of combinations for this Seed Set E. Seed names for this Set
At this level it is also possible to:

HP Mosaic – more than 1 Seed Set
• See the screenshot for an added Seed Set, for a total of 2 Seed Sets
• Note the range: the Index of any added Set, starts with the value+1 where the previous Set ends
• Index is the DB record range, in this example,
• Set 1: records 1-499,999
• Set 2: records 500,000-600,000
• The first 499,999 records are created from the Seeds listed in Set 1, the next 100,001 are created from Seed files listed in Set 2
• Select Edit Set –see details in next slide

HP Mosaic – Edit Seed Set and Edit SeedSelecting Edit Set opens Edit Set and Seed window. At this level it is possible to:
• Edit the entire Set parameters
• Edit each Seed parameters
Edit Seed Set parameters
A. Set name, Start and End index (Database record values range for this Set), Set description, and Seed files path
Edit Seed
B. Select a Seed from the Seed list
C. Set the scaling parameters (1=100%)
D. Set Rotation – none/any angle/every specific angle (30, 45, and more from the list)
E. Add Seed description if required
F. Add Seed, duplicate Seed, Delete seed

HP Edge Printing
• New Dynamic Image option added: HP Edge Printing
• Printing an image on the front edge or side edge of a book
o Designer automatically divides a selected image into slices, according to the number of pages in the book.
o Each slice is printed on the edge of each page
• The effect is noticeable on the imposed, printed, and finished job
• Imposition for Edge Printing job: 1up + Step & Repeat, according to paper size

HP Edge Printing - StepsEdge printing is meant for printed books
DatabaseA DB with1 column, number of records is number of book pages divided by 2. Data can be a simple counter, as it is not printed.
ChannelsTwo types of Image channels are defined:
1. The book content as a Multipage PDF channel
2. The Edge printing content as a 1 page PDF assigned via Dynamic Image application

Edge Printing - StepsCreate a 2 page InDesign document, with the size same as the book page size
Define the book content Image channel – Multipage PDF channel• Define 2 Image channels, 1 on each of the 2 pages, Channels size - entire page size
• For each of the 2 channels: Double click the channel row in the Channels palette to open the Image channel window
• In the Image Channel window
a. In the Type field select Multiple files
b. For File Name field, browse and select the book multiple page PDF file

For the channel on page 1• In the Multipage File Settings window,
select Odd pages
• Click OK
For the channel on page 2• In the Multiple File Settings window,
select Even pages

Edge Printing - StepsDefine the Edge Printing channel 1. Create a PDF single page file for the content of the Edge Printing channel
The PDF size should fit the book Edge area size or smaller
2. On Page 1 of the main InDesign doc, Define an image channela. Size: width - same or less than the page size, height 1 mm
b. Position: 0.5 mm at page net area, 0.5 on bleed area
(also possible: height 2 mm, position of 1 mm in net, 1 in bleed)
3. Double-click the channel row in the channel palette
In the Image Channel window that opens:a. In Type field, select Dynamic Image
b. For Application, select HP Edge Printing
c. Click Settings

1. Design a 1 page InDesign document for the book cover (front cover, back cover and spine)
2. Define an Image channel on the Spine area, width same as spine
3. Make this Image channel a Dynamic Image, HP Edge Printing

Multiply the width by the number of books = the Spine Printing Content PDF width

Number of DB recordsThe behavior is cyclic: Example, if there are 7 books in the set and a DB with 70 records, then Spine printing will prepare 10 sets of 7 books. Each 7 will have the complete Spine image 7

Install GPAS plugin for Designer
Install GPAS full plugin on Composer1. Define an Image channel
2. Modify the channel to be Dynamic Image
3. Select HP GPAS from the Applications list and click Settings
4. In the Settings window Select from the list: Guilloche, Product A, Product B, or Product C
Guilloche = An interlace pattern. Architectural decorative border made of interlaced bands.

5. In the Mapping table, select a DB field: The database must include a field with values generated by GPASfor each GPAS channel. Map the ‘code’ to the appropriate database field.
6. Click OK. The channel indication now includes the name of the selectedtemplate (Guilloche in the sample).
7. Pack the job as HPD, to be composed by SmartStream Composer 2.0.

1. The layout is designed, and packed as HPD template (setup phase)
2. For each package batch, the Authentication Server is sending the list of codes to be printed, as Comma Separated Values (CSV) files
3. HP SmartStream Composer is merging the CSV database files with HPD templates, and generates PDF/VT job, that is processed by the HP DFE. The raster output is sent to HP Indigo press.

• Direct to Finish requires a special JDF file: Filename.mjm
• The mjm file contains JDF with imposition parameters that will be read by the finishing devise: Designer Imposition is recognized by Direct To Finish workflow!
• To enable mjm: In the SmartStream Designer Preferences window, General tab, enable the Create JDF for Direct to Finish option

Direct to Finish – Create output file
1. Use SmartStream Designer as you normally do:
• Select database
• Define VDP channels
• Define Imposition
2. Open the Create Job window
a. Select JDF ticket option
b. Path for PDF output: \\DFE_Name\Jobs\DesignerLinks
c. In Comment: type the DFE Ticket Template name, such as 4colors
d. Click Create
3. On the DFE: copy the mjm file to DFE_Name\Jobs\JDF
