PROBLEM AND SOLUTION

I4MS 2016: FOSTERING DIGITAL INDUSTRIAL INNOVATION IN EUROPE · 23rd and 24th of June – Amsterdam

 Adaptive algorithm for different objective functions and constraints;

 Accelerate the determination of design characteristics and decreasing the

overall design time;

 Mathematical model for designing a composite for high pressure vessels,

that can be adopted on other forms.

Constrained multi-optimization algorithm for composite design:

Page 6: Hristijan Miceski, Mikrosam, MK (Fortissimo)

 HPC, supercomputing, the cloud-way of doing things, self-service, etc.,

were not the paradigms used in MIKROSAM;

 Reduction of the usual time to design a composite for about 30%

 One initial guess for the final optimized material properties;

 Replicability of experiments, easier designing (no more “technical”

but rather scientific solution), low CAPEX thinking.

HOW I4MS HELPED

Improvements in the industrial process:

I4MS 2016: FOSTERING DIGITAL INDUSTRIAL INNOVATION IN EUROPE · 23rd and 24th of June – Amsterdam

Page 7: Hristijan Miceski, Mikrosam, MK (Fortissimo)

 Decrease the design and testing costs by 10%

 Using base of materials in order to obtain best

combination for the test.

 Decrease the labor cost by 20%

 Using the HPC for performing complex computations

and multi-objective optimization.

HOW I4MS HELPED

Business benefits:

Page 8: Hristijan Miceski, Mikrosam, MK (Fortissimo)

 HPC, supercomputing, the cloud-way of doing things, self-service, etc., were not

the paradigms used in MIKROSAM;

 Change/shift in mentality – use of self-service model to solve our everyday

problems;

 The “cloud-way” of thinking, even in HPC related problems;

 Clear business results:

 Lower labor costs ~ 20%

 Lower material costs ~ 10%

 Better product design

 Improved branding of the company – 10% to 20% depending on the

previous experience.

 Replicability of experiment, easier designing (no more “technical” but rather

scientific solution), low CAPEX thinking

 The design of the composite is added as a feature with other software solution

MIKROSAM offers

 Testing new filament winding machines using optimization for the design

 First successful usage of HPC resources. We will with do the same for other

complex time-consuming calculations resulting in further collaborations.

 Combine other already tested software's for calculating composite

properties with the multi-optimization software developed during the

experiment
