Clinical Activities

September 1999 to present I have spent more than 60% of my time as an inpatient attending psychiatrist. From 1999 to 2002 as an acute care psychiatrist at the University of Maryland, Adult psychiatric unit which is also a teaching unit. From September 07 till date, I am responsible for the quality of psychiatric care of 31 acute psych beds, and directly responsible for the clinical care and management of 8 of these beds, supervising the team as the team leader, the team includes social work, nursing, and residents as they rotate through the service. During the period November 2002 through June 2005, In addition to my administrative duties I was the inpatient psychiatrist on a long term unit at the state hospital on a 25 bed unit, and was responsible for the care of all the patients. July 2005 to date, I have continued as an inpatient attending but also have seen outpatients at the Adult outpatient clinic. During this time I ran a clinic for non- compliant patients with a goal to improve patient adherence to treatment, supervised the care and management of approximately 300 patients that are seen at the 701 Outpatient clinic.

Director, Performance Improvement, for the Department of Psychiatry, July 2005 – September 2007

Acting Division Director, Adult Psychiatry September 2007- to present

*Oversee 3 inpatient psychiatrist, 2 outpatient psychiatrist, over 10 psychiatrists( full time and Part-time) in the Psychiatric Emergency service( PES). Responsible for the quality of patient care and management of 31 acute inpatient beds, 300 outpatients and over 4000+ patient visits a year at 701, providing oversight to quality of care of over 3000 patients seen PES, and in the Adult Day Hospital. Ensuring full staffing of 65hrs on site of psychiatrist in PES. Administrative supervision of associate directors for PES and Adult outpatient, Collaborating with the hospital and service line managers to ensure that policies at different clinical sites are followed and the patients receive quality care and that standards of practice are followed. Responsible for hiring into all the vacant psychiatrist positions in the division. Responsible for Working with the Department in managing the divisions, budget.

Medical Director of Psychiatric Admissions and Referral Center ( PARC) September 2007 to present

* Oversee the PARC and the staff, working the manager to support PARC to maintain full staffing. Reviewing and approving referrals to all inpatient units 24hr/day 7 days a week, including 31 bed adult unit, 13 bed geriatric psych unit and the child unit. Ensuring that patients admitted to the clinical services are adequately screened medically and psychiatrically for their appropriateness for our clinical programs.

2007 Volunteer educator, for AIDS relief in Nigeria,

* helped organize in collaboration with University of Maryland Institute of human Virology (IHV) faculty, a seminar on Neuropsychiatric manifestations of HIV in Nigeria, audience included over sixty physicians from all parts of the country funded by the global aids project and working directly with patients with HIV and AIDS

Direct supervision of the case management clinic for the residents I hour/week with each resident every week throughout the year. Weekly meetings in administrative supervision with the chief resident 1hr/week all year
