Conveyor Safety not to be taken lightlyAs with any mechanical and electrical device,c o n veyo rs can present some safety concerns.Since conveyors have many moving parts, anyoneworking with or around them should be well versedin conveyor safety. Let’s look at the standardCEMA (Conveyor Equipment Manufa c t u re rsAssociation) Safety Rules for Package Conveyors.

Not fo l l owing this ve r yimportant conveyor safetyrule can possibly lead toi n j u r y. It is impera t i vethat workers never climb, sit, stand, walk, ride, oreven touch the conveyorat any time.

It is just plain commonsense to follow this rule.Do not perform anymaintenance on conveyoruntil electrical, air,hyd ra u l i c, and grav i t yenergy sources have beenlocked out or blocked.

G u a rds have beeni n c o r p o rated into thedesign of conveyors for areason. Therefore, operateconveying equipment onlywith all approved coversand guards in place.

To prevent overheating ofthe conveyor drive, workers should not load as topped conveyor oroverload a runningconveyor.

Wo r ke rs should alwaysi n s u re that all personnel areclear of all conveyo requipment befo re sta r t i n g .M a ny times, fa c tories insta l lwarning horns to alertwo r ke rs that the conveyo rsa re about to become active.

Only wo r ke rs who havebeen trained should bepermitted to operate andp e r form maintenance onc o n veying equipment. This is not only for safetyre a s o n s, but to insurec o n veyor is pro p e r l ymaintained.

Conveyor controls are not juston/off switches, but includea ny kind of electronic ormechanical devices usedduring conveyor opera t i o n .These controls should neverbe modified or misused.

It cannot be stre s s e denough how important itis to keep clear ofc o n veying equipmentwhile it is in operation.Wo r ke rs should ke e pclothing, hair and allbodyparts away fro mconveyors

It is important that thee n v i ronment aro u n do p e rating conveyo rs bekept clean and as free ofdirt, oil, etc. as possible toi n s u re that equipmentcontinues to opera t eefficiently. How ever, alltrash, debris, paperwork,

etc. should only be removed when power is lockedand tagged out.

In case a conveyor orconveyor system needs tobe stopped suddenly, allc o n t rols and pull cord sshould be plainly visibleand accessible.

By the same to ke n ,workers should be familiarwith and know thelocation of all stop ands tart contro l s. Contro l sshould always be plainlymarked or labled to avoidany confusion.

U n t rained employe e sshould not try to clearjams but should re p o r tthese to authorize d ,t rained personnel. Allunsafe conditions shouldalso be likewise reportedto proper authorities.

Hytrol is committed tomanufacturing qualityconveying equipment, alwayswith an emphasis on safety.Effective April 3, 2006, thesafety sheet at left will beincluded with each and everyconveyor shipped fromHytrol’s plant.

While these safety rules aredeemed the most obviousand important by theConveyor EquipmentManufacturers Association(CEMA), each employeeshould be alert to any otherpotential safety concernswhile working with oraround conveyingequipment. Hytrol Introduces the Next Generation ofEZLogic® Accumulation

Hytrol has responded to the ever-evolvingneeds of our customers. Once again, we havepartnered with Eaton Cutler-Hammer to createthe most advanced zero-pressure accumulationsystem in the world. While featuring the sameEZLogic® familiarity, GEN3 incorporates newtechnologies for ease of installation, operation, and maintenance. When it comes to youraccumulation needs, Hytrol has changed the rules…again.

EZLogic® automatically adjusts the conveyor's zone length to ACCOMMODATETHE LENGTH OF THE CARTON being conveyed. In singulation mode, longer cartons areeasily and efficiently conveyed, providing better control of boxes. This therefore INCREASESCARTON THROUGHPUT, accumulation density, conveyor efficiency, and system flexibility. If desired, zones may be sized for the smallest carton for the MOST EFFICIENCY. Longer cartons introduced afterinstallation do not obsolete system, and the low-usage, long box is no longer a problem!

Hytrol Introduces the new CREZD conveyor lineHytrol’s CREZD conveyor line includes the 199-CREZD, 25-CREZD, and the 36-CREZD. All arechain driven live roller conveyor designed for zero pressure accumulation of both unitized orpalletized loads. This conveyor comes equipped with Hytrol’s new EZLogic® GEN3 accumulationsystems.

GEN3 has the following features:

• Ease of Installation and Replacement• Unprecedented Throughput Possibilities• Expanded Control Options• Easy to Configure• Greatly simplifies field wiring• Functionality to enhance product flow
