The Nativity of St. John the Baptist ● June 24, 2018
Please Welcome the Sheboygan South Catholic
Parishes New DRE
Hi there! I’m Sam Shackelford, and I be-came the Director of Christian Formation for the Tri-Parishes during the Summer of 2018. That’s a weird title, but basically if you’re a Catholic on the Southside be-tween First Grade and Forty, you’re my re-sponsibility!
I was born and raised a cradle Catholic in St. Louis, Missouri where I went to Catho-
lic School Kindergarten thru Senior year. I got into youth ministry during my junior year, and I’ve been involved ever since. I received my Bachelor’s in Philosophy & Religion at Truman State University, then promptly became a professional dish-washer. (To be precise, my self-proclaimed title was Dishwasher Extraordinaire)
I received my Master’s in Pastoral Theology from the (unfortunately defunct) Insti-tute of Pastoral Theology, then I joined the Michael James Mette Band and trav-eled all over the country, capstoning the tour with a diocesan youth conference in Malaysia. (Yes, that Malaysia!)
When the band split up, I found myself applying to a ministry in the Diocese of Green Bay called SPIRITUS, where I would end up dedicating nine months to lead-ing retreats to bring young people closer to Christ. I then spent two years running a religious education program in Lena & Coleman, Wisconsin.
Finally, I moved to Manitowoc in 2017, marrying my sweetheart of less than a year, Dana Dolezal. Our first child, Theresa Rose, will be born in August 2018.
It’s been a long, crazy road, literally around the world, to get here. Nowadays when I’m not working around the house, I fill my time with cooking, music, thea-ter, games, photography, and annoying my wife. But working with young people has been my passion since I was a teenager myself, and I pray that God will guide me in using the gifts He has given me to serve these communities for His glory. God bless y’all!

St. Paul reminds us in the second reading that Christ died “so that
those who live might live no longer for themselves.” What we give and do for others, we give to and do for Jesus!

Would I Say This in Person?
If you get angry on social media, take a
break to think about what you would say face-to-face. Is the comment loving and merciful? If you are upset, do not comment right away. Walk away from your device and ask yourself what you’d say in person.
June Tri-Parish Outreach Love Inc of Sheboygan County
Love In the Name of Christ (Love INC) is a Christian Ministry currently made up of 37 Partner Churches throughout She-boygan County coordinating resources to offer a “hand-up” to
our neighbors-in-need. As Christians, we are called to show the love of Christ to those in need – putting our faith into action. For people in need and Christians who want to help them, Love INC is an answer to prayers. Thank you for donat-ing to Love INC. We appreciate your generosity to support this Ministry.
In the Gospel today, we celebrate the birth of John the Baptist. Every-one pondered the question: “What, then, will this child be? For surely the hand of the Lord was with him.”
This month, “the hand of the Lord has been acting through you” as your gifts, to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul brought his love and care to the poor by assisting families with food, utili-ty, rent and other bills, etc. Thank You!

Mission for the Week
Sit down with your family, and read Mark 4:35-41 out loud. Then talk about the things you are afraid of. Pray to God, ask for help, and believe that God is stronger than any problem you have.
A Child’s Prayer Dear God, sometimes I feel afraid, too. Help me to remember that you are stronger than any problem I have. Amen.
Do not forget to turn in your 2018-19 Religious Education Registration Form. If you misplaced yours, please visit http://catholicsouthside.com and scroll down a bit. It is available in Word and PDF.
Sharing the Gospel The disciples of Jesus had a very scary night because their faith was not very strong yet. They were crossing the sea in their boat, just as Jesus asked them to do, when a huge storm came up. Their boat was filling up with so much water they thought they would all die.
When they woke Jesus up, He simply spoke to the wind and the waves, and the storm stopped completely. Now they were really scared. Who was Jesus, anyway? The wind and waves listened to him!
Beach Day: The She-
boygan Catholic Under-ground (our county-wide group for adults at 18-39)

Matthew Widder will join us at 6:00 p.m. to celebrate Mass outside on the beach followed by dinner cooked over the fire after Mass. Please bring your own chairs or blankets.
