The O’Connell basketball program is one of the area’s and nation’s best. The Knights have averaged 23 wins per year over the last 12 years while winning 5 state titles, and 3 Alhambra Catholic Invitational titles. 32 O’Connell basketball alumni in the last 12 years have played or are currently playing college athletics. The 2011-12 Knights features a young team with only one senior on the roster. The group has worked extremely hard and looks to develop a consistent level of play throughout the season. They seek to reach their program goal of being: Tough, Eager, Attitude, Men; on the court, in the classroom and in the game of life.

The Knights enter a rebuilding season with 12 freshmen and sophomores. Nevertheless, the team will work hard to improve upon last year’s shoot-out loss in the NVSHL quarter-finals playoff game. The team is led by Brett Hogan, who was last season’s MVP and one of the league’s best goalies. Also leading the way is four-year varsity player, senior Anothony Olivette, the last player remaining from the Knights’ 2009 NVSHL Championship team. Head Coach Hannums and Assistant Coach Connors are joined this year by two former Knights, Assistant Coaches Ricky Rudolph (Class of ‘05) and Jonathan Hannums (Class of ‘08).
