The target is the synthetic oil plant anti. ammonia anc nitrogen works

of the I.G.Farbenincustrie, locate4 three mi!es south of th~ center of the city

anc 20 miles west of Leipzig. It lies 01 the east sice of a railway line with

t ·he River Saale fl wing N.!f. about a aile to the Eaat.

The plant is one of the most extensive works in Germany. It is the largest

ammoni2 procucer in Europe an« proauces a thira of Germany's supply. Ammonia is

usee in the manufacture of nitric acia ana explosives.
