You’ll need: Any kind of glitter (I used the martha stewart kind)Clear nail polish

1.) Pick out your color.2.) Put a nice, thick layer of clear nail polish on and sprinkle to your hearts content (I laid a piece of paper under my hand to catch all the extra)! The glitter I chose is more like sparkly strips, so you want to flatten them by softly pressing on it, just to seal it on there nice and tight. You could still do this with powder glitter as well.3.) Add a nice extra thick coat of clear polish on the top and there ya go!

Directions:1. Mix applesauce with cinnamon to form a stiff dough. Roll dough to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut with cookie cutter.

2. Make a hole in top of ornament with a straw.(I like to use a spatula to help me get the orna-ment off of the cutting board.)

3. Use the straw again to push the hole out. I also like to take the handle of a paintbrush to smooth out any rough edges.

4. Carefully lay ornaments on a rack to dry.(It takes a day for the ornaments to dry.)

Makes 12-15 ornaments.

5. The fun part is finding ribbon to coordinate with the ornament shape. I found some super cute ribbon with holiday ornaments on it. Cut about 6 inches or so.

6. Loop the ribbon through and tape or glue gun the edges together.

7. As gifts for my friends and co-workers I make a little card with an image of the orna-ment shape for the cover.

*Store your ornaments in a plastic bag or con-tainer so they’ll keep their cinnamon smell for next year!

PersonalizedEMBOSSED

STATIONARY

Materials:- heat embossing tool (at any craft store)- embossing powders (I chose metallic)- stamp carving block- stamp or linocut carving tool (at most craft stores)- clear embossing ink- pencil- card stock- envelopes- scissors- craft knife- sheet of paper

Stationery is one of those gifts that people can always use, but it can be a little “run-of-the-mill”. This tutorial will show you how to make handmade stationery by carving your own stamp, and then heat emboss-ing the name to create a raised and metallic effect. The result is a gift that was clearly hand-made with love, and certainly one-of-a-kind.

Ashely -INDIE PRETTY PROJECTS http://IndiePrettyProjects.com

1. Start by cut-ting off a piece of your carving block for the size of the stamp that you will need. Make sure your card stock is also cut to the size of the stationery that you want.

2. If you feel con-fident enough to hand-draw your letters directly onto the carving block with pencil, start with that. Remem-ber to write your name and letters backwards, as the

stamp image will be reversed when printed.

Page 21: IHOD Holiday Gift Guide 2011

3. Carve out the space around your letters, leaving the lettering raised. When using a carving tool, you can change out the blade for different sizes depending on which part of the stamp you are carving.

4. You might want to do a couple test stamps to make sure there are no errors in your stamp. If everything looks good, stamp your name block in the clear embossing ink.

5. Sprinkle the stamped name with your em-bossing powder, and shake off onto a sheet of paper to pour excess powder back into the jar (just like any glittering project).

6. Turn on your heat embosser. Hold the tool about six inches from the embossing pow-der to start, moving closer if the powder isn’t melting. In a few seconds, the powders will begin to melt and blend together. Keep the em-bosser heating the letters for just a few more seconds to make sure everything is melted sufficiently, but don’t heat it for too long, as the card stock will begin to warp, and possibly get burnt marks!

7. Let your stationery cool. Once cooled, feel for yourself the raised effect. Repeat this process for as many sheets of stationery you would like to create. Put it in a lovely stationery box for gift giving, or tie it together with pretty baker’s twine for a stationery stocking stuffer.
