SALUDOS

Koichi Kawai nuestro fundador, soñó un día en construir el mejor piano del mundo. Fue el principio de “nuestro sueño”.

Shigeru Kawai, el segundo Presidente de la compañía solía decir “Ofrecer la mejor interpretación en el piano es posible con la combinación de un piano soberbio, un pianista con mucho talento y un técnico experimentado”. Siguiendo esta premisa, plasmó ideas innovadoras con un esquema de cualificaciones del “MPA” para preparar afinadores de pianos de alta especialización, y con la construcción de la fábrica de RYUYO exclusivamente para la fabricación de los pianos de cola.

Los pianos de cola SHIGERU KAWAI fueron presentados por primera vez en 1999, como resultado de continuo esfuerzo, mejora de diseño, confianza, propósito y honor en la fabricación de los pianos.

Ahora el piano de concierto SK-EX Shigeru Kawai ha sido oficialmente elegido en muchos concursos internacionales y altamente evaluado por los mejores pianistas del mundo.

Creamos un Concurso Internacional de piano en 2017 que lleva su nombre por los pianos de cola Shigeru Kawai, conmemorando el 90 aniversario de la compañía.

Es mi sincero deseo que el cristalino sueño de Shigeru Kawai hecho nuestro, ofrezca “la mejor interpretación” de los pianistas de la próxima generación en todo el mundo.

1 Indicaciones

Con el deseo de descubrir y promover los pianistas de la próxima generación, el Concurso Internacional de piano SHIGERU KAWAI se estableció en 2017 para los pianistas de una edad entre los 16 y 26 años por la compañía Kawai Musical Inst. Mfg. Co., Ltd que ha estado organizando concursos de música para los colegios de primaria y segundaria desde 1967.Este Concurso tiene su nombre del renombrado piano de concierto SHIGERU KAWAI que frecuentemente es elegido por los pianistas durante los prestigiosos concursos internacionales de piano. Su primera edición fue un gran éxito acogiendo a 351 inscripciones de 25 países. En la segunda edición, se han efectuado grandes esfuerzos para permitir a un número aún mayor de competidores puedan pasar la preselección, adaptando además el concierto de piano para dos pianos en el repertorio de la ronda final, para ampliar la musicalidad y tener en cuenta un mayor número de pianistas.

The Competition has four stages; "Pre-selection", "1st Round", "Semifinal Round" and "Final Round".

※ About Pre-selectionPre-selection (Japan) will take place in three major cities (Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka). Pre-selection (Overseas) will be conducted on the basis of video data (DVD). Qualification for the 1st Round will be given to the applicants who passed the Pre-selection.

※ Multiple applications cannot be accepted.*1 … Applicants can choose any venue of Pre-selection (Japan).*1 … In case of too many applicants, the venue might be changed.*1 … Order of performances in Pre-selection (Japan) will be decided by the Secretariat, and

applicants cannot select the date of performance.*2 … Order of performances in 1st Round, Semifinal Round and Final Round will be decided by the

lottery on August 3, 2018. Competitors who can not attend the lottery may not be allowed to participate in the Competition.

*4 … Applications from China and Hong Kong will be judged in the Pre-selection (Overseas) in Hong Kong.

<Announcement of Results>Results of Pre-selection will be notified to each applicant via e-mail and will be published on the Competition official website by April 30th, 2018. From 1st Round, results will be announced on the last day of each round.

2 Application

2-1 EligibilityThe Competition is open to pianists born between April 2, 1991 and April 1, 2001.

2-4 Application ProceduresApplications must be submitted either by (a) Online Application or (b) Postal Application. Only (a) Online Application is acceptable for application from overseas due to the payment procedure.

Applicants must enter all the necessary information in the online application form on the Competition official site.URL : https://skipc.jp/

Applicants must send the application form to the Secretariat (address below) by registered mail or air courier service.Application form can be downloaded from the Competition official site. URL: https://skipc.jp/

② Photo

Upload high quality photo data at the time of application.

Send 2 copies of the same photo with name backside to the Secretariat. Photo data can be sent by CD-R.

※ Photo taken within 6 months of the application date (from front, chest up).※ High resolution data (1-10MB) or Photo larger than L-size print (127 × 89㎜ ).※ Copyright free.※ Photo will be used for official program, official website and other promotional

materials.

③ Official Documents

Upload scanned image data at the time of application.

Send a copy of official document to the Secretariat together with ① and ② .

※ Official documents shows the applicant’s name, nationality and face (passport is recommended).

④ Entry Fee

Entry fee designated in P.20 2-3 must be paid by credit card on the payment page appears after the application page.※ Competitors who pass the Pre-selection (Overseas), must pay JPY 20,000 according to the instruction from the Secretariat.

Entry fee (JPY20,000) must be paid by bank transfer to the bank account (shown below) , and the t ransfer statement should be sent to the Secretariat.※ Same name and address as filled in the application form should be written in the communication column.

⑤ Video Data

If you apply to Pre-selection (Overseas),① DVD should be sent to the Secretariat below or ② video data should be uploaded to YouTube(Unlisted) or online storage, and the URL should be entered in online application form.※ Only ① DVD can be accepted for applications from China and Hong Kong.※ Regarding the instruction about the video recording, please see the notice mentioned in 4-1.

⑥ Confirmation of Application

Automatic confirmation e-mail will be sent to each applicant when the application is completed.

Confirmation e-mail will be send to the e-mail address in the application form from the Secretariat.

Applicants should contact to the Secretariat if the e-mail does not reach in two weeks after the application.※ Your smartphone/PC should be able to receive e-mails from "[email protected]".

Note : ・Application after deadline date cannot be accepted.・ Incomplete applications may not be subject to an examination in Pre-selection.・If entry fee is not paid by February 28, 2018, application will not be accepted. ・Bank charge should be borne by applicants.・Entry fee cannot be refunded in any case.・All materials submitted to the Secretariat will not be returned.

3 Participation in the Competition

3-1 Travel SupportEach competitor is responsible for his/her travel expenses. In case competitors residing outside Japan pass the Pre-selection and come to Japan for the Competition, the SKIPC committee provide support for travel expenses specified below.

3-2 Accommodation SupportAccommodation cost including breakfast will be borne by the SKIPC committee only for a hotel designated by the Secretariat from August 2, 2018, two days prior to the 1st Round until the next morning after the competitor's participation ended.

3-3 Order of PerformancesThe order of performances in Pre-selection (Japan) shall be decided at random by the Committee.The order of performances from 1st Round to Final Round shall be decided by lottery on August 3, 2018. If the competitor cannot attend the lottery for unavoidable reasons, the Secretariat will draw lots on behalf of him/her.

3-4 Performance in CompetitionThe Competition is open to the general public. All performances during the Competition may be distributed on the internet, e.g. the SKIPC official website.

3-5 Practice PianoFrom 3 days prior to the 1st Round, the following practice opportunities will be provided free of charge to the competitors who wish to use a practice room.

1st Round Competitors : 3 hours / day Semifinalists : 4 hours / day Finalists : 5 hours / day

※ Finalists will have a rehearsal with the accompanist on August 10, 2018, at Tokyo Bunka Kaikan Recital Hall. Rehearsal time is one hour.

3-6 JudgmentJury members appointed by the SKIPC Committee shall judge the performances through the Competition. The Jury's decision is final and no objections or complaints cannot be accepted.

3-8 Prize Winners' ConcertPrizewinners’ Concert will be held at Kawai Omotesando Concert Salon “Pause” on August 12, 2018. High-ranking winners must agree to perform at the concert.The program should be selected from the pieces played in the Competition. Performance fee for this concert shall not be paid.

【Performance Time】 First Prize Winner : about 40 min.(An encore can be included) Second Prize Winner : within 30 min. Third Prize Winner : within 30 min.

4 Repertoire

4-1 Pre-selection Applicant must play (1) and (2). Total playing time of (1) and (2) should be no more than 15 minutes and the playing order can be decided by the applicant.

(1) One piece from Chopin: Etude Op.10 or Op.25 (2) Piece(s) of free choice

Note: If applicants submit DVD or upload video data for Pre-selection (Overseas), the following instructions must be observed. 1) The video should be newly recorded for the 2nd Shigeru Kawai International Piano Competition on or

after November 1, 2017. 2) All the pieces should be recorded on the same day at the same venue consequently in one track. 3) Pieces not in the repertoire list must not be recorded. 4) The video cannot be edited. 5) Angle of camera should be fixed and applicant’s face and hands must be visible clearly at the same time. 6) Video should be recorded on a DVD disc (DVD-video format), or upload to YouTube (Unlisted) or online

storage. (Only DVD can be accepted for the applications from China and Hong Kong.) 7) Recording date and venue should be described in the application form.

4-2 1st RoundCompetitor must play (1) and (2). Total playing time of (1) and (2) should be no more than 20 minutes and the playing order can be decided by the competitor.

(1) Piece(s) from F. Schubert : 4 impromptus D899/Op.90, 4 impromptus D935/Op.142, or Moments musicaux D780/Op.94 (2) Piece(s) of free choice ※ Pieces played at the Pre-selection cannot be included.

4-3 Semifinal RoundCompetitor must play (1) and (2). Total playing time of (1) and (2) should be from 30 to 35 minutes and the playing order can be decided by the competitor.

(1) One Sonata by F.J. Haydn, W.A. Mozart or L.v. Beethoven    ※ Playing time should be from 10 to 15 minutes ※ Competitor may play a) one movement, b) all movements, or c) selection of several movements.

(2) Piece(s) of free choice    ※ Music works in the Romantic , Modern and/or Contemporary periods only

※ Piece(s) played at the Pre-selection and/or 1st Round can be included, but they should not exceed 15 minutes.

4-4 Final RoundCompetitor must choose one piano concerto from the followings and play with an accompanist the Secretariat will designate. Concerto will be performed on two pianos.

< Notes about All Repertoire >

・ All the pieces should be played from memory.・ All the pieces from Pre-selection to Final Round should be submitted upon application. Composer, title, key, opus number, movement(s), and playing time should be stated in the

application form correctly. ・ Submitted repertoire can be changed by the following date on the Competition official website,

or via e-mail. Any changes after these dates cannot be accepted. Pre-selection  : February 28, 2018 1st Round - Final Round  : May 31, 2018

・ Total Playing time is measured including intervals. When the playing time exceeds the specified time limit, a responsible person (the Jury) may interrupt the performance.

・ A part of Sonata or Suite can be selected for the Piece(s) of free choice. ・ Submission of music score of played piece may be required.

5-1 VisaCompetitors must obtain the necessary visa to visit. If an invitation letter or any other documents are required for visa application, the competitor must contact the Secretariat.

5-2 InsuranceCompetitors are responsible for purchasing insurance for health, injury, accident, fire, theft and damage to personal belongings.

5-3 Deal with Personal InformationPersonal Information provided at the time of application will be managed and used correctly by the Secretariat in accordance with the policy of the SKIPC committee.The Secretariat may use the information to send the useful information to the competitors and/or teachers by direct mail and/or e-mail, and the competitor should contact the Secretariat if he/she does not need them.

5-4 CopyrightAll the performances, broadcasting rights, recording, filming and photography in the competition and concert which are related to the competition belong to the SKIPC committee. The competitor cannot claim the rights to them.

5-5 Legal GuidelinesAny problems that occur in regard to these guidelines will be settled according to the original Japanese version of these guidelines and Japanese Law.

5-6 Notice・Photography, audio and video recording are prohibited at each round of the Competition.・These guidelines may be subject to change due to unavoidable circumstances.
