FirewallConsiderationsiLincdoesnotrequireanychangestoyourfirewallsettings.Theservershouldtypicallybeinstalledina“DMZ”orothernetworklocationwhereport80isopentoit,justasyouwouldtreatatypicalwebserver.However,ifyouareusingVoIPand/oriLinclivevideo,youmaywanttoopenoneUDPportonyourfirewalltoimproveperformance.iLincwillattempttouseUDPonport11730foraudioandvideo,andthusopeningthisportoutboundfromtheserverwillimproveperformanceofthesetools.Iftheportisavailable,theiLincclientwillautomaticallyuseitbydefault.Iftheportisnotavailable,theclientwillautomaticallyuseport80forVoIPandVideo.Thesefeatureswillstillworkonport80,butwillusemorebandwidthandmayhavehigherlatencyandreducedoverallquality,insomecases.

SecurityConsiderationsiLincsupportsbothSSLandAESdataencryption,forboththe“frontend’webpagesaswellasforallin‐sessiondata.BothSSLandAESrequirethatyouobtainandinstallavalid“SSLCertificate”fromatrustedauthority,onyouriLincserverpriortoinstallation.Informationonhowtodosocanbefoundinyouroperatingsystemdocumentation.IfyourequireassistancewiththesestepsyoucancontactiLincSupport.

BandwidthConsiderationsYoumustensurethatwhenyourusersconnecttotheiLincServer,theyhaveenoughbandwidthtoparticipateinthesession.YoucandosobydetermininghowmuchbandwidthisavailableonyournetworkforiLinctraffic.Inaddition,ifyourusersareconnectingtotheInternetviaamodem,youcanrequirethattheyconnectatanaveragespeed,suchas56kbps.Onaverage,iLincsessionswillusearound30Kbpsperconcurrentuser,assumingtypicalconferencingoptionsareused,fornormalsessionuse.Higherutilizationscanoccur,particularlyifeitheriLinclivevideoorhigh‐endapplicationsharingisused.Fordetailedinformationaboutpotentialbandwidthutilization,pleasecontactiLincsupportfordetails.SeeAppendixA:UnderstandingBandwidthoftheiLinc10UserGuideformoreinformation.Notethatitisalsopossibleto“throttle”orlimitthemostbandwidthintensiveiLincsessiontoolsfromexceedingcertainbandwidthsettings.Formoreinformation,contactiLincsupport.IfyoumustlimittheamountofbandwidthavailableonyournetworkforiLincsessions,communicatethebandwidthlimitationtoeveryonewhocanschedulesessions.Determinehowmanyusersyoucanhaveinsessionsinagiventimeperiod,basedonavailablebandwidthandlicenses,andmakeeveryoneawareofthemaximumnumberofuserstoavoidschedulingsessionswhentherewillnotbeenoughbandwidthorenoughlicensesavailabletoensurereliableoperationforeveryone.
