• Siglo XV (1267): la cámara oscura.Obtener la proyección plana de una imagen sobre la parte de su superficie interior.

Leonardo Da Vinci• Cuando las imágenes de los objetos
iluminados penetran por un agujerito en un aposento muy oscuro, recibiréis esas imágenes en el interior de dicho aposento en un papel blanco situado a poca distancia del agujero: veréis en el papel todos los objetos con sus propias formas y colores. Aparecerán reducidos de tamaño. Se presentarán en una situación invertida, y esto en virtud de la intersección de los rayos. Si las imágenes proceden de un lugar iluminado por el sol, os aparecerán como pintadas en el papel que debe ser muy fino y visto por detrás. El agujero será practicado en una chapa de hierro también muy fina.

Lo óptico... • Los perfiles y las siluetas.Captar imágenes sin dibujarlas propiamente. Estos retratos o siluetas eran llamados algo mal hecho o esbozado, una sombra de sí mismo y al cual se le aplicaba el término de retrato.

Descubrimiento de la fotografía • Joseph-Nicéphore Niépce (1765-1833).• Heliografía:Fijar directamente la imagen sobre planchas de estaño o peltre, papel, cristal, etc.
• Las primeras imágenes obtenidas eran negativas (fondos negros y objetos blancos).
• En 1816 Niépce había logrado fijar las imágenes de la cámara oscura sobre papel tratado con cloruro de plata, mediante el ácido nítrico.
