INTRODUCTION

Interior landscape design adds value to the interior of the space, giving it a complete look. The commercial complexes can have interior landscaping, with trees planted in coordination with greenery waterfalls to go along with it, giving it the look of a garden.

Interior landscape design plans the plantation of greenery in such a way, that it heightens the beauty of the surrounding region. The design sometimes may have cobbled paths to create a pathway and grasses around it. Proper sunshine and regular watering, along with occasional manure and trimming are essential for the growth and maintenance of these trees and plants.

Proper lighting should be placed to illuminate the space during night time. If there is a large space, small gatherings can be hosted in such natural surroundings.

AIMTo analyse the advantages of using plants in interiors of commercial spaces (hotels, hospitals, offices, etc.) and their types to be used in those spaces.

OBJECTIVETo create more relaxing environment, productive and conductive. To enhance the aesthetic appeal of commercial spaces. To give a perceived high class image of commercial spaces.

NEED OF HOUR

In today’s scenario, interior landscaping is preferred in commercial spaces as they help to alter the microclimate and improve the aesthetic appeal of space. In today’s fast growing urban development, interior landscaping helps to change the monotony of environment.

SCOPE AND LIMITATION

Study is intended for use of planters in only in commercial spaces (offices, hotels, marketing industry, retail stores, shopping complexes, etc.) in global context. Study is for understanding significance of plants, material and finishes, construction, design, planters in urban surroundings, different brands for planters.

Cost factors are not considered.

History of planters is not studied.

METHODOLOGYReferred brochures and catalogues for various brands for plantersLiterature case studiesMagazines and journalsInternet sourcesResearch done by various universities about benefits of plants

EXPLANATION

SIGNIFICANCE

Indoor plants naturally purify the air and create a better living or working environment.

Page 5: Interior Design Report

English ivy, gerbera, etc. were found to be the best plants for treating air contaminated with Benzene (in oils and paints). The peace lily, gerbera daisy, and bamboo palm were very effective in treating Trichloroethylene (adhesives, inks and varnishes).

Different plants for interior spaces:

1. Heartleaf philodendron 2. Elephant ear philodendron 3. Dracaena fragrans - cornstalk dracaena 4. Hedera helix- English ivy 5. Chlorophytum comosum- spider plant 6. Janet Craig dracaena 7. Warneck dracaena 8. Golden pothos 9. Peace lily

COLLECTED RESEARCH ABOUT THE BENEFITS PLANTS CAN BRING TO THE WORK ENVIRONMENT

University of Agriculture, Norway research in an office, schools and the x-ray department of a hospital all showed that with plants present both complaints about minor ailments often linked to Sick building syndrome and absenteeism were reduced by 50% in a planted office.

Washington State University, USA (1996) found that plants reduced the physical signs of stress i.e. blood pressure, pulse rates and skin conductivity. It also found that people working with plants in the room were as much as 12% more productive

Texas A & M University, USA found that plants or even green views decreased stress levels of recovering surgical patients assisting faster recovery and flowering plants have a good effect on surgical recovery. University of Technology, Sydney, Australia 2010 found that even one plant made a difference to mood reducing anxiety, stress and depression.

Research showed that plants improved mood and therefore performance and improves creative performance.

Dr. Jane Stiles, Oxford Brookes University (mid 1990’s) found that plants in the reception of a hospital reduced fear of their visit.

Amanda Read, Royal College of Agriculture, (2005) showed that students were more attentive and more likely to attend lectures in planted rooms. Planted classrooms afforded an increase in student concentration of 23%.

Jorn Viumdal, University of Agriculture, Oslo, Norway (mid 1990s) found that shoppers stayed an average of 20 – 25 minutes longer in planted centers

Kathleen Wolf’s (Washington State University 2002) study showed that the perception of plants outside of shops in the Mall gave them a perceived high class image

Dr Eamonn O’Moore (1982) found that view of greenery reduced the sickness of prisoners.

Plants can contribute to a buildings ranking from US Green Building Council's LEED certification. Depending on level of certification, LEED buildings tend to use less energy are built from environmentally friendly materials. Interior landscapes can contribute to LEED certification points in the following categories: Innovation in design, indoor chemical and pollutant source control, and water efficiency.

MATERIALS AND FINISHES

Planters are constructed using state-of-the-art rolling and "seamless" welding technology. Ensuring consistent wall thickness for maximum Solid metals and Alloys are selected to insure maximum durability and finish.
