Millions of customers around the world use us for one simple reason: its simple.

Im sure everyone here is quite familiar about PayPal, it is used to facilitate payments in multiple currencies and languages the world over. We have some of the best APIs and SDKs in the industry and our SDKs have been fully open-sourced since 2009.2

Simple, powerful paymentsAccept credit cards, debit cards, PayPal and Apple Pay with a snippet of code.

Braintree is a new to the region with its recently launched opensource V.Zero SDK braintree allows you to accept PayPal and credit cards from within your integrations. Recently we also annouced a partnership with bitcoin processor coinbase and im excited to share with you much earlier this morning we annouced partnerships with gocoin and bitpay. 3

3rd Prize

Arduino Experiment Kit

IoT HackPack which contains an Arduino Uno Shield with components which you could use to create all sorts of things like an electric powered toothbrush . Holder so you can charge up your regular toothbrushes.19

2nd PrizeXbox One

Xbox one - now if there is more than one person in the team then what you will need to do is ask the first place winners to cut the xbox up into 4 pieces no no we got you covered we got 4 of them20

1st Prize

So first place prizes You will win this axe and I have to warn you unlike my jokes its rather sharp and it is heavy, and we will fly your team out to the world finals in November to the PayPal mothership in San Jose to battle it out for your chance to win $100,000 USD free and clear 21

Internet of Things

And So today I am going to talk a bit about something that as a full stack developer really excites me, no not more payments, but the growing industry called Internet Of things also known as IoT and ways that developers and the industry at large are using it to change the way business happens around us 23

In the beginning

1969 ARPANET

The digital digital world for the most part began right here, in 1969 when a researcher managed to connect to computers host to host for the first time. This spawned what can only be described as the greatest step forward since the industrial revolution creating what we know as the internet24

Internet

A networked backbone of optic fiber and cable connections that intertwines us all node to node to each other the world over creating vast amounts of commerce and information and opportunities every second of every hour of every day, the internet is a world that does not sleep the internet is a world that does not stop. If part of it goes down there are mechnisms in place to restore connection faster than we can realise that they have stopped. 25

Limitation

but for all its worth the biggest limitation we have so far is our inability to completely be part of our digital world. we are always outsiders looking in from the other side of the glass unable to touch or feel our way inside our own creation. And its something we are seemingly always trying to do in our attempt to be more intertwined with our digital universe.26

Mobile

The high uptake on mobile device usage has been a great example of a way that we have tried to facitlitate this more. We made the devices needed to access the internet highly portable and scalable however they still do not fully allow us to become completely interactive with the online world even with the likes of Augemented reality which are still limited by the display. 27

Welcome to the internet of things, this is the bridge between the offline and the online allow me to do things that I previously would not easily be able to do. The internet of things is where I can not only interact with 6 or 7 other devices in the room but I can also interact with devices in other rooms to find out information before you even realise you are going to need it. 29

Nixie

Nixie is the first flyable and wearable camera that started off as a flying pair of glasses is now a wristband that unfolds into a remote-controlled quadcopter. Nixie puts you front and center in your photos and videoswithout requiring your hands, or your attention. From selfies to panoramas to continuous movies, Nixie offers preset modes for any on-the-go situation.30

Smart Table

I was recently in singapore at the one maker group office where they are demonstrating a smart table which was a simple ikea table that had sensors built into it so that you can place advertising material like fliers or catalogues on the table and it will tell you via the internet when it is close to running out. Whats more if the table is picked up from the floor an alarm sounds and it sends out an alert help message via SMS or email. 31

Brad the Toaster

Meet Brad the toaster, he will wiggle his handle and do whatever he can to get you to have toast. Ignore him long enough and he will ping a network of potential new owners to find a new home. Brad the toaster is a project that earlier in the year was created to demonstrate the power of IoT, Brad can be so persistant that he will even contact the postal service to get himself transported to a new home. 32

Opportunities

Source: Cisco

Cisco recently released some research that predicted that by 2020 the will be an estimated 50 billion IoT devices in the world. Can you imagine that, everything around you will be connected and not just the electronic things like light bulbs and house appliances but things like tables chairs and even footpaths will be connected to each other and to the rest of the world. 33

OpportunitiesSource: Intel

And cisco arent the only company betting big on IoT, recent research by intel suggest that By 2020 there will be at least 26 smart objects for every human on the planet, affecting industries like manufacturing, health care, retail, security and transportation and thats just for starters. 34

In the Internet of ThingsNobody knows you are a fridge

In the internet of things everything around us will be connecting in ways that will enhance our everyday life, they will connect without us even knowing to assist in ways we wont even know. 35

IoT-Commerce

So check this example out, an Arduino Yun and a Thermal printer both of which cost about $100 USD used together create an automated 36

E-textiles

But wearables can be textile based too, an american company called Erogear are designing a clothing range that allow bluetooth low energy interaction into a LED fabric to enable messages to appear on clothing. Technology such as this allows developers to build customised applications inside smartphones that connect to your clothing to display anything from the current temperature to advertising and even the local news, tweets or sports scores. 39

Wearables

Recently we have seen a number of wearables appearing on the consumer market that will do everything from monitoring health, interacting with your smartphone and even ordering your food 42

Samsung Gear 2

So at PayPal we have been working with companies like Samsung on ways that Payments can be made more seamless and frictionless for users within wearbles. Like smart watches apps that will allow you to use PayPal to checkin at a resturant or a store location and then simply pay without even having to get out your wallet. 43

Internet of Car Things

So there you have it IoT is really shaping up to take on the world and One can only guess as to where the internet of things will take us but i do know one thing..44

Embedded Tech

Another new emerging branch of IoT is embedded technology, Embeded tech integrates directly onto a users body which while sounding slightly invasive it creates a more seamless user experience. 48

iOptik

Earlier in the year a company called ioptic demonstrated a protype contact lense that operated in a similar way to google glass and even in the protype phase it has generated a lot of interested 49

Motorola

Digital Tattoo

And Motorola recently released a skin based eletronic tattoo also known as epidermal electronics that allows you to interact with your devices unlocking and locking them without needing to enter a pin or security code. Using sensors in the tattoo it can identify an individuals unique signature to be able to 50

IoT Fraud

Has anyone actually considered the opportunities that lie within protecting against IoT Hack?51
