  • National Mission for Clean Ganga in its new 'Avtaar' bestowed under the Environment Protection Act has completed one year as an authority on 7th October 2017. The new look NMCG headed by Director General and comprising of Deputy Director General and four Executive Directors took over the reins of the management effectively in January 2017 to take up the challenges and the mandate conferred for rejuvenation, protection and management of river Ganga.

    One Year, Many Milestones Two Sewerage Treatment Plants awarded to successful bidders under Hybrid Annuity Based Public Private Partnership ModeOne at Varanasi for 50 MLD treatment and other at Haridwar for treatment of 82 MLD.

    A total number of 44 projects had been sanctioned by the Executive Committee of NMCG in its seven meetings involving a cost of `7547.87 crores which will treat 1402.26 MLD of sewerage

    1109 gross polluting industries have been inspected through technical institutes out of which 333 have been closed.

    11 trash skimmers machines have been deployed at as many stations on Ganga and Yamuna for river surface cleaning.

    All 4464 villages on the bank of river Ganga have been declared Open Defecation Free and 12,74,421 Individual Household Toilets have been constructed.

    The Central and State Governments for the last three decades have taken up various measures for pollution abatement in river Ganga and its tributaries and the Government of India has put in place an Integrated Ganga Conservation Mission named 'Namami Gange' with an outlay of 20,000 Crores.While the Government efforts continue in the right earnest, the herculean task of Ganga rejuvenation requires participation of one and all and at various levels. A large number of individuals, Self-Help groups and even Corporate entities in the past have associated themselves with various interventions on Ganga and its bank either offering shram daan for cleaning the banks and Ghats or for construction of Ghats, Crematoria and providing other amenities on and around Ganga. As such, participating in 'Namami Gange' activities provides a unique opportunity to Corporates for associating themselves with the national cause of rejuvenation of river Ganga.

    The Partnership Process Corporates adopt one or more projects from listed activities online. The format for lling up key details will be available online immediately on adopting any listed project. The preliminary details provided will be screened by the NMCG and based on the same the visiting corporate entities will be required to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the activity proposed. The corporate entities will be required to submit a DPR after survey of the site and engagement with the local people for assessing the feasibility of the project NMCG after appraising the DPR will give a go ahead and will also facilitate the NOC/local clearance from District or the State Adminis- tration as the case may be. The project will be launched after all clearances at an appropriate date. Corporate to nominate a Nodal Ofcer for monitoring the progress of the project and for providing regular feedback and updates to NMCG. An impact assessment will be jointly conducted by NMCG and the Corporate entity for the project.

  • Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation in order to establish an international focus on water resources of India has been organising India Water Week since 2012. India Water Week gives a good exposure and discussion forum for indigenous and internationally acknowledged water and energy solutions. Additio-nally, it provides a platform to showcase the initiatives and reach out to the various ministries, academicians, researchers, policy makers, interna-tional technology providers, nancial institutions, public at large etc. under a single umbrella. National Mission for Clean Ganga, an Authority under MoWR, RD & GR is the nodal organisation in the Center, carrying out wide and diversied efforts towards rejuvenation of river Ganga in a closely knit

    association with ve riparian states- Uttrakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal. NMCG has been participating in India Water Week since 2015 with a primary objective of targeting a wide range of public to showcase the initiatives under Namami Gange Programme and simultane-ously creating a platform of knowledge sharing, technology sharing and public outreach. This year, NMCG's India Water Week Exhibition Pavilion 2017 was set up at Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts (IGNCA), Man Singh Road, New Delhi from 11th October 2017- 14th October 2017. It witnessed footfalls from as many as 75 plus organisations/ institutions/ industrial sector/ school children and Ex- Parliamentarians etc. serving the purpose of reaching out to various stakeholders.

    Namami Gange Trek was organized from 10th to 14th October, 2017 by State Program Management Group, Uttarakhand in collaboration with Nehru Institute of Mountaineering, Uttarakashi. The objective of the trek was to expose the participants from diverse backgrounds to the conditions of river Ganga in high altitude of Himalayas so that they can create awareness for Ganga cleanliness and rejuvenation after coming back and share their experiences with others.

    Total 65 participants belonging to diverse back-grounds participated in the Namami Gange Trek. Participants included Academicians, Researchers, Glaciologist & Scientist from Physical Research Laboratory, Ahmadabad, Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University, Srinagar and Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, Dehradun. Senior media persons and journalists from NDTV, Times of

    India, Amar Ujala, Hindustan and Dainik Jagran were also part of the Trek. Gracious presence and guidance of Hon'ble Shri Gopal Singh Rawat, MLA, Gangotri and Hon'ble Shri Pritam Singh Panwar, MLA, Dhanaulti also added value to the entire trek. Conservationist & environmentalists, local stake-holders, representatives of Hotel & Tourism Industries, NGO and foreign participants also undertook the trek. This trek was led by Dr. Raghav Langer, Project Director, SPMG, Uttarakhand.

    On 14th November, 2017 the culmination ceremony was organised at Rajbhawan Dehradun, where after congratulating the participants on the successful trek and presenting mementoes to them, His Excellency, Governor Dr. K.K. Paul said that to create awareness on Ganga Rejuvenation, treks at regular intervals should be organised for schools and college students during their holidays.
