Record at the LATC: 126-34
Located on the UCLA campus nestled just west of Pauley Pavilion and south of Drake Stadium is the impressive Los Angeles Tennis Center - home to both UCLA men’s and women’s tennis teams. After playing 24 years on the Sunset Canyon Courts, the UCLA men’s tennis team moved its matches to the LATC in 1985, while the women’s team made the LATC its primary home facility in 1997.
Upon moving to the LATC, the Bruin men won 48 straight dual matches on their new courts over three seasons before losing to Long Beach State in 1987. The Bruins’ 24-year LATC record is 354-24 (.937). The Bruin men had a 53-match home win streak (the longest recorded) at the LATC before a 5-2 loss to USC on April 3, 1991. The Bruins also held a 44 consecutive dual-match winning streak before losing to NCAA runner-up Stanford on April 16, 1994.
The LATC was the first large-scale outdoor tennis stadium opened in the
Los Angeles metropolitan area and was officially dedicated on May 20, 1984, just in time to host the 1984 NCAA Women’s Tennis Championships and the 1984 Olympic Games. Since then, the LATC has been site of several top collegiate and professional tourna-ments. The NCAA Women’s Tennis Championships returned to the LATC in 1987 and ’88, while the NCAA Men’s Tennis Championships called the LATC home in 1997.
On the professional level, the LATC has been a regular stop of the ATP Tour for many years. The first tournament at the LATC, the Union 76 Pacific Southwest Open, featured former Bruins Jimmy Connors and Eliot Teltscher in the finals. Most recently, the LATC has hosted the Mercedes-Benz Cup, which was re-named the Countrywide Classic in 2005.
The popularity of the LATC continues to grow beyond the tennis world. During 1997 alone, it hosted the World Beach

The LATC features eight lighted, hard-surface courts, a 5,800-permanent seat grandstand around the three main courts and a two-level clubhouse. At full capacity, the LATC can accommodate 10,000 spectators. The clubhouse con-tains locker rooms, coaches’ offices and team rooms for both the UCLA men’s and women’s teams, as well as the office of the Southern California Tennis Association (SCTA).
The second level of the clubhouse fea-tures a 4,000-square foot indoor dining area and kitchen. Center court is called the Times-Mirror Center Court. The stadium is named the Straus Stadium and Clubhouse.
The most recent addition to the LATC came in 2005 when the Greiner Fam-ily Scoreboard was added to the back courts. Prior to that, the Budge Offer Family Scoreboard was added to the

Glenn Toth, who has served the athletic department as an administrator for more than
30 years, enters his 12th year in charge of the tennis programs. He serves as a member of athletic director Dan Guerrero’s senior staff.
A senior associate athletic director with a variety of respon-sibilities, Toth serves as the liaison with shoe and apparel sponsor adidas, having orchestrated both the original 1999 agreement and its renewal in 2005. adidas supplies all Bruin teams, and represents the department’s most lucrative sponsorship. In addition, Toth was point person on the negotiation with International Sports Properties (ISP) which now handles the department’s corporate relations, media rights, program printing, web page, ad sales, and sponsor promotions.
Toth also has administrative responsibility for the athletic equipment room which designs, outfits, and maintains all of the Bruins’ uniforms, practice, and playing equipment. Sporting a staff of six full-time and additional part-time personnel, the equipment room has significant on-site capability, including laundry, mechanical repair, and custom fitting/tailoring.
Toth graduated from UCLA in 1976 with a degree in economics and was hired shortly thereafter by former athletic director J.D. Morgan to work in the events and travel office. From 1978-84, he supervised the manage-ment of home athletic events and team travel. In 1982, Toth handled the logistics of UCLA’s move to the Rose Bowl and at the same time became the athletic department’s first marketing director. Promoted to Associate Athletic Director in 1984, he was credited with several award-win-ning football marketing campaigns and the creation of the department’s corporate relations program.
Now a frustrated, mediocre golfer, Toth letter in golf at Tustin’s Foothill High School where he graduated in 1972. He enjoys scuba diving, hiking, and mountaineering, and also serves as a Reserve Captain with the LA County Sheriff’s Department.
On April 25, 2002, Daniel G. Guerrero was named UCLA’s eighth Director of Athletics,
succeeding the retiring Peter Dalis. A former Bruin baseball player, Guerrero exudes the pride of a student-athlete who is now calling the shots at his alma mater.
Guerrero has placed his mark on the program as the director of athletics at UCLA. He is currently serving as the chair of the NCAA’s Division I Men’s Basketball Academic Enhancement Group. He is also a member of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Committee. In addition, he is the third vice-president of NACDA, serves on the NACDA Executive Committee and is also on the executive board of the Division I Athletic Directors Association. In June of 2007, he was named NACDA Division I West Region Athletic Director of the Year.
In his first six years, Guerrero has clearly established a pattern of “image and substance” that few in his profession can match. UCLA stands as the No. 1 University in the nation for NCAA team championships (103) , a number that continues to grow under his direction. UCLA teams have also won 17 NCAA team titles (the highest total in the nation in that span) in 11 different sports, finished second 13 times and have had an additional 22 Top 5 finishes. A staggering 113 teams (of 138 possible) have qualified for NCAA post-season competition and the football team has appeared in six bowl games. The program has also won 37 conference championships in 15 different sports, produced 338 All-Americans and featured four Honda Award winners, including the 2003-04 Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year.
Guerrero was named one of the nation’s Top 100 Most Influential Hispanics by Hispanic Business Magazine (October 2004) and the May 5, 2003 issue of Sports Illustrated listed him #28 among the 101 Most Influential Minorities in Sports. He was one of 28 people whose photo was featured on that issue’s cover.
Guerrero is married to the former Anne Marie Aniello and they have two grown daughters: Jenna and Katie.
