What a weekend we haveplanned for the Labor Dayweekend. The Port ClintonYacht Club is all in to helpcelebrate the Bi-Centennialof the Battle of Lake Erieand the naval victory of theAmerican Fleet over theBritish squadron in 1813.The Parade of Tall Shipswill take place on Thursday,August 29 off South BassIsland. When the boatshave completed their ren-dezvous, they will head totheir respective ports. Twoof them will be coming toPort Clinton and will bedocked across the PortageRiver from PCYC. I have
contacted Bob Gillmor fromOld Fort who built all of thecannons used in the movieMaster and CommanderHopefully, he will bringsome additional cannonsso that we may properlywelcome the two ships on
Thursday afternoon. As part of that welcoming
celebration, PCYC will alsohold a very specialCommodores Wine andCigar Deck Party startingat 5:30. Skip Sorgen willprovide the cigars andTed Wierzba is workingwith Heidelberg Distribut-
ing to provide for us alovely wine tasting to gowith it. The fee to partici-pate is $10, plus achance to view the Tall
Ships.I have been very busy put-ting together e-mails en-couraging my sailingfriends throughout theInter-Lake Yachting Asso-ciation to attend this
years Green Island Race.Past Commodore CindyBolte and I came up withthe theme, Dont Give UpThe Start as a salute tothe Green Island Raceversion of the Battle ofLake Erie. We are stillworking with the two TallShips and the Port Clintonorganizing committee(PORTS) to leave their
moorings on Sundaymorning and to lead theGreen Island Race fleetout to the starting line.
Wouldnt that be neat!?!Then there are the socialactivities surrounding the
Green Island RaceTheChicken Dinner on Satur-day night followed by liveentertainment on thedeck featuring my favoriteband, the TravelinLounge Lizards. Thenthere will be the Green
Island Breakfast on Sun-day morning, Green IslandRibs on Sunday evening, and the Annual Labor DayFish Fry on Monday.
Wowwhat a weekend. The Clubhouse and Clubgrounds are starting toshape up even more. Theoutside of the Club got amuch needed paint job,and the area south of the
Garage has been seededand should start turning
green again soon.My apologies to DirectorRod Miller and the mem-bers of the Port ClintonCommunity Band thatperformed a wonderfulconcert on August 4 onthe deck. I got a littlemixed up (not exactlyearth shattering news)
and referred to them asthe North Coast Concert
Band. Sorry, my bad.Congratulations to mycrew aboard SCOOP andCliff Ruckstuhl and his

crew aboard RED DOG fortheir wins in last Satur-days Commodores CupRace. Yes, your Commo-dore won the Commo-dores Cup. We had 9boats participating in all,4 in PHRF (spinnaker)
and 5 in JAM (jib andmainsail). It is a traditionto take a Past Commo-dore on the race, and wehad a good one in PC JeffBugbee (94). John andCindy Bolte raced withJEB. PC Todd Finke sailedwith Rob Kyle on SALLYJO. The race was first es-tablished by my father in1971 the year he was
Commodore so Satur-days race meant a lot tome personally. It is niceto see The PCYC Commo-dores Cup Race coming
back strong again. At the end of the month,we have all of the festivi-ties surrounding the2013 Snow Flurries Re-gatta. We are looking atapproaching several of
the one-design fleets toparticipate again. Yearsago, we used to have abig turnout of Interlakes,Lightnings and Thistlesand would love to see
them come back to PCYC.

Greetings everyone! As
our summer winds
down, our fall activities
are ready to start. Be
sure to check the Jib
Calendar for all the
events happening start-
ing with Labor Day and
finishing with Snow
Flurries sail boat re-
gatta.
The only active project
going on right now is
the painting of certain
buildings. The painter
was able to get an early
start on the project so
Im hoping by the time
you are reading this it is
almost done.
The irrigation system is
complete in all areasexcept one. That area,
in front of the club and
the infield grass in front
of the boats, will be
done after Labor Day
weekend.
WiFi system is still be-
ing looked at. Most
quotes are coming in
way over what the
Board approved budget
amount was. I am con-
tinuing to try and come
up with a solution that
stays within the budget.
Sorry for any inconven-
ience this may be caus-
ing.
The pool will remain
open for one weekend
after Labor Day which is
the 7th & 8th, weather
permitting of course.
The hours will remain
normal from 12-8pm.
The North Shore roadhas been sealed from
the restrooms to the
turn-around. This com-
pletes the asphalt
maintenance we
started in the spring.
You may have noticed a
difference in the secu-
rity lights on the
grounds. The change is
due to changing them
to a LED type fixture.
This minor investment
will save the Club hun-
dreds of dollars each
year. I want to thank
Eric and Chuck for con-
tinually looking for ways
to save money. Every
little bit makes a differ-
ence.
Thats all for now and
lets hope for long mild
Fall so we can continue
to enjoy our Club and
related activities.
