DESCRIPTION
Beneath Park Station in Johannesburg lies a network of tunnels built in 1935. Once used to dispatch mail from post offices to railway platforms, the system has fallen into disrepair. This document details the engineering behind the sophisticated system. Up to 600 bags of post, weighing between 50 and 75 kilograms, travelled along conveyer belts from two post offices. They reached railway platforms via chutes, and were then transported to postal ships waiting at Table Bay Habour.
