El Puente De Londres

El Puente de Londres es unpuente en Londres (Inglaterra) que cruza elro Tmesis, entre City of London y Southwark. Se sita entre los

puentes de "Cannon Street Railway" y "Tower Bridge" (es comnmenteconfundido con este ltimo aunque son puentes distintos). El puenteoriginal de Londres fue uno de los ms famosos del mundo: era el nico

puente que cruzaba el Tmesis en Londres hasta que se abri el Puente deWestminsteren 1750. (I.P)

En la parte sur del puente se encuentra la Catedral de Southwark yLondon Bridge station. En la parte norte se encuentra Monument to theGreat Fire of London y Monument tube station. El puente est designadocomo parte de la carretera A3.

(I.S) El puente estaba construido con granito, con una longitud de 283my una anchura de 15m. La inauguracin oficial tuvo lugar el 1 de Agostode 1831, el rey Guillermo IV y la reina Adelaida atendieron un banqueteen un pabelln erigido sobre el puente. El recin construido HMS Beaglefue el primer barco en navegar bajo el puente. Fue ensanchado en 1902-04 de 16m a 20m en un intento de combatir la congestin crnica detrfico de Londres. Desafortunadamente, esto result ser demasiado paralos pilares del puente, y se descubri que el puente se estaba hundiendo1cm cada tres aos. En el Da del Recuerdo de 2004, varios puentes londinenses fueron

decorados con iluminacin roja para formar parte de un espectculo en elque unos aviones sobrevolaban el recorrido del Tmesis. La iluminacinmejor considerablemente la apariencia del Puente de Londres, por loque se decidi mantener hasta la actualidad (aunque fue quitada del restode los puentes) e ilumina el puente por las noches(O.C)
