Kebanyakan masyarakat kaget dan tidak siap
(mental) menghadapi kejadian alam ini.
salah satu sebab: Kesadaran yang masih rendah thd
kenyataan bertempat tinggal di wilayah rentan bencana
geologi.
Erupsi gunungapi dan gempa tektonik merupakan
bagian proses alamiah geologi yang berlangsung sejak
jutaan tahun lalu sampai sekarang bahkan sampai yang
akan datang sebagai bagian dari dinamika Bumi.
Gempa 2006 dan erupsi Merapi 2010 merupakan
bencana alam (bencana geologi) yang traumatis.
Proses ini berjalan terus tanpa henti dan meninggalkan
rekaman-rekaman dalam batuan yang membentuk
bentang alam (Pulau Jawa) dimana kita tinggal.
Batuan langka = Informasi langka / penting.

gunungapi) di Jawa (> 36 Jt th), • Zm gunungapi purba di Jawa (OAF=OLD ANDESITE
FORMATION) (16-36 Jt th), &
• Zm gunungapi masa kini (MERAPI) (<2 Jt Th).
Warisan geologi yg utuh seperti ini langka dijumpai.
Dalam hal inipun Jogja dan sekitarnya juga bersatus
istimewa.

gunungapi) sehingga kita –sebagai masyarakat-
lebih sadar, siap dan waspada untuk menghadapi
tantangan alam ini.

Batuan metamorf (filit) Bayat: Batuan tertua (> 90 juta th) di Jawa
Filit adalah batuan metamorf yang dominan di Bayat. Di Desa Padasan, Jiwo Timur, di salah satu alurnya, dijumpai singkapan filit segar berwarna hitam. Filit ini dicirikan oleh struktur foliasi, struktur yang dibentuk oleh penjajaran mineral mika yang berbentuk pipih akibat tekanan tinggi metamorfisme. Sejajar dengan foliasi terdapat ‘urat-urat’ kuarsa (quartz veins) berukuran lebar antara 3-12 cm, panjang 15-35 cm. Filit Bayat termasuk greenschist facies yang terbentuk dari proses metamorfisme dengan tekanan 4000-6000 atmosfer dan pada kedalaman 10-15 km.
