Fertiliser ConsumptionFertiliser Consumption during 2004-05 Highest consumption

NPK consumption increased from 16.8 million tonnes (2003-04) to18.4 million tonnes (2004-05)

Per-hectare NPK consumption increased from 89.83 kg to 98.3 kg

NPK consumption ratio improved from 6.9:2.6:1 to 5.7:2.2:1

Consumption during 2005-06

Sale of major fertilisers ± Urea, DAP & MOP till Aug.¶05 during

Kharif 2005 has increased by about 13.4%, 5% & 11.3%respectively over corresponding period last year.

For Rabi 2005-06, requirement of Urea is 119.86 LMT, DAP is44.59 LMT & MOP is 15 LMT, assessed in consultation with StateGovts.

Rabi requirements of Urea, DAP and MOP are higher by 10.6%,

13.2% & 21.2% respectively over the last rabi requirement.

Integrated Nutrients Management

Fortification of fertilisers Micronutrient deficiency can be overcome by use of fortified

fertilisers.

Fortified fertilisers - Boronated SSP, Zincated Urea, BoronatedDAP, Zincated Phosphate, NPK complex (12:32:16, 10:26:26)fortified with zinc & boron etc are specified in FCO.

Balanced & integrated application of fertilisers - Use of chemical fertilisers (i.e. N, P & K and secondary & micronutrients).

Bio-fertiliser, Organic manures, green manures, vermicompost etc.

Soil Testing Balanced application of fertilisers need to be based on soil test

results.

There are 544 soil test labs with analysing capacity of 7.07 millionsoil samples per annum.

Existing labs to be strengthened and more new labs need to beestablished.

Quality Control of Fertilisers

Under provisions of FCO, Standard quality of

fertilisers to be ensured to farmers.

Presently there are 67 fertiliser testing labs with totalanalysing capacity of 1.25 lakh samples per annum.

Specification of Biofertilisers has been notified in BIS

Specification of Biofertilisers and Organic fertilisers

will be specified under FCO shortly.

State Govts are adequately empowered for the

enforcement of FCO.

State Govts Role

Organic farming Give wide publicity to bankable project by NABARD for setting up

compost units, biofertiliser units, vermiculture hatcheries etc andintimate eligible agencies for sending proposals

Identify agencies of repute for implementation of variouscomponents of National Project on Organic Farming

Register all organic units with National Centre of Organic farming

Availability of fertilisers Tie-up Supply of decontrolled Urea, DAP & MOP well ahead under

intimation to DAC & DOF

Intimate any additional requirement well in advance

Ensure supply to difficult/inaccessible areas of State

Monitor availability periodically and send fortnightly report onreceipt, sale & stock by fax or web by due date

Encourage soil test based balanced use of fertilisers anddistribution of soil health card

Increase capacity utilisation of soil & fertiliser testing labs
