Are we a newspaper? No...Are we a magazine? No...Are we a newsletter? Not really any of those. So what are we? We are a publication in print and online designed to provide information: for fun, for what’s happening, for things you might want to see in other publications, but don’t. We look for stories that could go viral...at the very least, stories that are interesting. The point is to “Share It!”

Floyd Sneed, original Three Dog Night drummer signs book deal
Reno, NV, July 7, 2015: Floyd Sneed is a drummer, best known for his work with the band, Three Dog Night. Sneed got his start with Little Daddy and the Bachelors that included Tommy Chong on guitar. Sneed’s career with Three Dog Night spanned the late 60s and early 70s with 12 gold albums and 21 consecutive Billboard Top 40 hits. Like any band, there were some tumultuous times. Sneed is anxious to tell his story in his own words. “I like to make people laugh, and I can tell stories that no one else knows but me,” said Sneed. The book is scheduled for a late 2016 release. “Writing a book is a process. Floyd is looking forward to sharing his story in between painting and
preparing a drum instruction tutorial. He recently told a friend he had to plan the next 30 years of his life. I guess this is just the beginning,” said Janice Hermsen of LeRue Press, the independent publisher who will be releasing the work. Sneed learned about LeRue Press (LRP) through a mutual business associate. They met , discussed the project and the rest is history. Sneed has been busy working on his artwork at his Los Angeles home. He sells his pieces online and at various art shows. Shortly before the June release of What’s the Story®, we received a letter from Barbara Hegne, a Sun Valley resident. In 2014, after 33 years of research, Hegne released her book, Saga of the Mask Plantation North Carolina: Slaves Journey to Oregon. She wrote in her letter: “I have a “great” story to share. I am a 78 year old great‐greatgrandmother who discovered through research that Ty Burrell (of Modern Family TV fame) and I share the same great‐great‐great‐great grndmother, a slave from Africa. The slave girl was purchased by a white plantation owner of whom she had two children. Burrell is being featured this fall on “Tracing Your Roots” TV series. They will use excerpts and photos out of my self‐published book: Saga of the Mask Plantation North Carolina: Slaves Journey to Oregon. Burrell and I were born in Oregon where the traveling family finally settled. Share my story. Regards Barbara Hegne”. So here is your story, Ms. Hegne; thanks for taking the time to “share it”.
Barbara Hegne, author of Saga of the Mask Plantation North Carolina: Slaves Journey to Oregon, was fitness editor for Nutritional Update Magazine and physical fitness columnist for Bestways Magazine. She was the Executive Director of the Historical Society in Eagle Point, Oregon for 20 years. Brian T. Shirley The Seer Then came the SEERS! As Earth was in it's death throws and time was winding down, people with a unique ability started to be born. All around the globe came reports of people in different parts of the world having the same dreams. It took many years for anyone to tie the events together, but when they did the results pointed towards a kind of salvation for mankind. When the news of the dying Earth finally reached the population at whole, chaos erupted. The governments of Earth had agreed to keep the news away from the public as long as possible. Revolutions took place, which led to wars and millions lost their lives. Then the Seers started communicating with one another across the planet and gained the people's trust. They would discuss their dreams with each other, then the various world leaders. They dreamed of new energy sources, new types of space travel, new types of building materials and various inventions. Once the Seers met and discussed what the previous night, week long or sometimes even

Donham Baker stood on the deck of the huge transport ship looking down at planet Earth. He could not get over the fact that this would be his last time seeing his home planet. It would probably be the last time, any human
saw it. The resources of the planet spent, oceans nearly dried up, plant life all but gone and very little animal life left except humans. Earth started to die thousands of years ago. It takes a long time for a planet to die, compared to the life span of it's people. In the 1900's it was called "Global Warming", then "Climate Change" and mankind was said to be the main culprit. Then around the year 2055, the terminology changed to "Planetary Aging" when scientist studying a dying solar system found a planet very similar to Earth. They concluded that it had gone through what the Earth was now going through about 2,000 years in the past. The surface was now completely barren. No water, no plant life, but there were signs of a civilization that had once been. They saw building foundations and what appeared to be some sort of infrastructure to cities that dotted the planet. They dubbed the planet "Sisterth" or "sister earth". Scientists made two amazing discoveries with one transmission of the satellite that sent back video files and 3D images of Sisterth. The first discovery was that there was life somewhere else in the universe. A cause for celebration worldwide. The other discovery, that took nearly a year of various observations, was that the planet had simply died. This was not a mystery to anyone, the way Sisterth died was what brought an abrupt end to the party.

Are you a Politicoholic? I’ve known quite a few. Remember, I got my start in radio as a "Right Wing Talk Show Host". Now as the host of America
Matters Media, we pride ourselves on allowing all voices to be heard on air, left, right, liberal, conservative and in some cases, even stupid. Last month I talked about “Perfumed Parlor Snakes. They are a slightly different breed than a "Politicoholic". A Politicoholic is someone addicted to an opinion, cause or belief, without allowing any opportunity for opposing opinions to be considered. Most of them are easy to pick out in a crowd, even if they are not at their normal job in government or the media. Often, just the mention of a particular party, cause or person is some of the best verbal bait to use if you are hunting for one of them at a social gathering. Everyone wants to belong to some group, I suppose, and if the conversation ends up in politics, it is always a good idea to determine which political group has the largest number attending the function. Better check how much they have had to drink too. There seems to be a direct correlation between
Eddie Floyd Politicoholic
intoxication and good old fashioned answers to the world's problems from these addicts... and they are always right. As you enter the clubhouse of a golf course, walk up to the bar and yell "Eagle", and you will see that almost everyone in the room is either proud or jealous of you. But in both cases, the conversation will remain friendly. Do the same thing at a bar near a State Capitol and the same word could actually start a fight with someone who hates the Eagle being our Nation's symbol, because they still think that Jefferson was right saying it should be the turkey. Considering the way many of our politicians are acting today, maybe Jefferson knew what he was talking about. In that same bar, others will buy you a drink and thank you for caring, but be careful here too. In most cases the conversation will shift to a particular cause like "Save the Eagle", in which case you will be asked to donate funds for them or their campaign leader. You might be considered the enemy by the other members of the organization. So be careful out there on the "highways of life". Don’t get run over by the verbal vehicle of a Politicoholic. If you are only injured slightly by the impact of the collision, the remedy is to remain calm. Do not voice an opinion and listen to all others before deciding where you stand on the topic. Unless you don’t mind getting run down every now and then. Just like the old saying that someone considered a terrorist is someone else's freedom fighter, the same holds true that someone's representative is often someone else's idiot. Your friend and host, Eddie Floyd Just a simple "Good ole southern boy to all".

month long dreams meant, then the implementation period would occur. They would meet with world leaders, scientists, and industry experts from appropriate industries to discuss the application of the dream. Over time, the seers began to dwindle. There did not seem to be any more seers being born, so as they died, there was not another generation to replace them. Some seers simply lost the ability; no more dreams. And then there was one, Donham Baker. Donham tried to remember when the "Earth" dreams started. He called them "Earth" dreams because every one would start with a view of Planet Earth from outer space. Much like the view of the great orb he had now. The first time he's had this view while awake. The last time, also. He closed his eyes and rubbed the back of his neck. He had told the others all his Earth dreams. All of them but one. The day the people of Earth started being loaded in the huge transport ships, Donham had a troubling dream. Never were the dreams even remotely frightening. They were usually technical, like someone was showing him how to build a space craft or how to combine certain elements. This last dream did not make sense. It was violent and went against everything the other dreams had meant to him. He saw the dreams as man's escape from a dying world. He felt as though the Earth itself may be sending these dreams, or maybe a life form far away. Perhaps one of the surviving residents of Sisterth who went through the same circumstances. "Dohnam," a man in a gray suit approached the seer. "Rickter, how are you?" said Dohnam as he shook Rickter's hand. The other man was the ships' Captain, an old friend. "I'm fine, but you look terrible. Don't worry, I'm sure your coordinates are right. Just because you didn't see the planet, doesn't mean it's not there. You've never been wrong." Rickter smiled as he patted Dohnan's arm. " You and the other seers have saved mankind. I can get the doctor to give you something to put you into a deep sleep where you won't dream, if you want. You need rest, real rest."
Dohnam sighed, "I'm fine; as soon as we are under way ,I'll go back to my cabin." "OK," Rickter said, this time as he walked away from Dohnam. "Once we get there, I want you on the bridge with me. I want to be with you when you see our new home." That night, Dohnam and the entire fleet left the space around Earth. The ships went into time/speed continuum. In other words, the speed of the ship would double every second and start to reverse the process as they reached their destination. This theory came from the Seers after they had the same dream in sequence every night for two months. Dohnam found sleep very easy that night. Then came the dream. Dohnam saw the Earth just sitting peacefully in space. It was breath taking, the oceans were full and lush. It looked healthy, not sick as he noticed it earlier from the dream built spaceship. Then, out of nowhere something struck the Earth

Most investors who are in retirement or near retirement age have a mix of stocks and bonds in their
portfolios. The price of bonds is sensitive to interest rates. When rates go up bond prices move in the opposite direction. The Federal Reserve has been talking about raising interest rates for some time now. Most market watchers expect the fed to start raising rates sometime this year and maybe have two rate increases before the year’s end. A lot of people expect the first rate increase to be in September. The Fed’s decision to raise rates is data dependent, in other words they won’t start raising rates unless the economy is showing signs of strength. They look at the labor market, inflation and other indicators. The Fed would like to see inflation running about 2% and considers the unemployment rate, job openings and more to gauge the health of the jobs market. Investors are concerned about how their portfolio may react to rising interest rates. How your portfolio reacts will depend on what types of bonds you own and how fast the fed increases
rates. Investment grade bonds tend to be more sensitive to changes in rates than high yield bonds. Investment grade bonds like US Treasuries have an inverse correlation to stocks. High yield bonds have a positive correlation to the stock market. Bear markets in stocks normally occur during times of recession and the default rates in high yield bonds are typically worse during recessions. More companies will default when the

economy is performing poorly than when the economy is strong. The Fed will not raise rates unless the economy is strong, so normally, stocks and high yield bonds perform fairly well in rising interest rate environments. Investment grade bonds can increase in value when stocks and high yield bonds do poorly because investors will sell of stocks and junk bonds and place their funds into higher quality investments like Treasury bonds. If you’re concerned about how rising rates may impact your investments, take a look at your bond holdings. Do you have individual bonds or bond mutual funds? If you have individual bonds, you can always hold them until maturity, collect your coupon payments and reinvest the funds when the bonds mature. Strategies like ladders and barbells can be used to minimize the interest rate risk.

If you have bond mutual funds you can hold them through the rising rate period or switch to funds that have some protection from interest rate risk. Some funds have hedges against rising rates, like short US Treasury futures with their bond portfolio. There are funds available that have a stated maturity. You can purchase a fund today that will mature in five years and intends to provide all of your original investment back at maturity, plus pay a monthly income stream along the way. When your investment matures you can reinvest the funds at the higher interest rates. No one knows for sure when the fed will start raising rates, or how much they will increase, but now might be a good time to check your portfolio to understand how rising rates could affect your investments.

causing a huge explosion. Dohnam could barely make out chunks of rock and earth here and there, with smoke and quick shooting flames. Usually, the dream would end there, but this time it didn't. This time, the scene in front of him dissipated until all that was left was a small, ugly reddish orb, floating where the Earth had been. Dohnam awoke in a sweat as usual, exactly eight hours after he had laid down. He got showered, dressed and made his way to the Bridge. When he walked into the control room, he saw Rickter standing with some other officers looking at a huge video screen. Dohnam knew they were looking at the view of outer space surrounding the front of the ship. Rickter looked to his left to say something to an officer and saw Dohnam approaching. "Here's the man of the hour!" Rickter said with both arms raised "The man who led us home!" Without a word from their Captain all the officers and crew broke into cheers and applause aimed at the Seer. "Thanks, thanks, just doing my....whatever you call it." said Dohnam as he walked up to Rickter.
"Well, dreamer, take a look" said Rickter with an outstretched hand to the screen. Dohnam looked, and choked back a laugh. That ugly little orb he had seen in his dream, was now staring right back at him, "Isn't she beautiful?" said Rickter with a twisted smile. "Too far to be seen from earth, even too far for you, and there she is." There she was indeed. Dohnam felt like he was looking at a lovable little runt. The best part of the whole thing for Dohnam was that he never dreamed again. www.briantshirley.webs.com

The Sparks Museum and Cultural Center, working with City of Sparks Councilwoman, Julia Ratti recently saved the iconic figure of Last Chance Joe from being destroyed. Last Chance Joe is the iconic figure that used to be in front of the Nugget Casino in Sparks. Built in 1958, “Last Chance Joe” was designed by Roscoe “Duke” Reading of Reading Display, Boise, Idaho. He did this and lots of additional work for Dick Graves over several years” according to Reid Reading.* When the new owners designed a new façade, Joe just didn't fit their plans. “Joe had to go”. To remove the 1958 figure, bids were obtained, several large and small donors pledged sufficient funds to move the project forward. Since the Museum site was not ready, Joe was removed from the Nugget, placed on his back on a flatbed trailer and put in a parking lot while the design and construction of a suitable site was completed. Joe was eventually moved to his new home in front of one of the Museum buildings near the corner of Pyramid Way and Victorian Avenue. A fund was set up at www.nevadafund.org to provide for the initial restoration and future maintenance for Joe. The new location contributed to many problems with the figure. When originally placed in front of the Nugget, Joe was facing north and had a wall at his back. Except for his hat, he was fairly well protected from the sun. As the Nugget grew behind him, not even his hat was subjected to the sun. The new location has him facing south with a wall behind him, subjecting the front of him to full sun all day. The figure was never designed to go through the rigors of being moved. When it was transported to the Nugget site, it was in three separate pieces. As a result of the current move and lying on his back for a couple of months, then being re‐erected in the new location cracks and breaks have developed. Unfortunately, though money was pledged, not all of it was received, leaving the project approximately $25,000 short of the amount required to completely pay for the move and the restoration. As a private museum, the Sparks Museum & Cultural Center receives no budgetary funds from the city, county or state, we must rely on memberships, attendance fees and donations for operating funds. The museum has only one paid part‐time employee. The remainder of the work is performed by volunteers. There is no money available to provide for Last Chance Joe. “It would be a shame if this historic relic is lost due to a shortage of money to preserve him” said Dick Dreiling, Secretary of the Sparks Museum and Cultural Center Board of Trustees in a recent press release.
A plea is being made for all to make donations of any size to

Beginning July 1st, Grassroots Books is the Find Waldo 2015 host bookstore for a city‐wide scavenger hunt featuring local Reno businesses. The famous children’s books character in the striped shirt is visiting 25 local businesses in July. Anyone can pick up a “Find Waldo in Reno!” passport at Grassroots Books and get their passport stamped for each Waldo they spot at one of those businesses. Once you have visited multiple businesses, you are eligible to win Waldo‐themed prizes! The hunt for Waldo lasts all month long, and you do not have to complete the scavenger hunt in one day (though it may be fun if you do!) On July 31st, Grassroots will be hosting a celebration where they will raffle off grand prizes . Waldo, Wenda, and their dog Woof will be the guests of honor to host fun‐filled activities. The first 100 seekers with 10+ passport stamps can bring them back to Grassroots Books to collect prizes. Collect 20+ stamps to enter the grand prize drawing at 10:30AM on July 31. The top prize is a 6‐volume set of Waldo books and $25 in Book Bucks.

Did you know? Brought to you by LRP Printing~Publishing~Business Center Printer’s errors: “In a 1631 edition of the King James Bible – in Exodus 20 verse 14 – the word “not” was left out. This changed the 7th commandment to read – “Thou shalt commit adultery.” Most of the copies were recalled immediately and destroyed on the orders of Charles I. But there are 11 copies still remaining. They are known as the “Wicked Bible.” (The Bible museum in Branson – Missouri has one on display.) The printer was fined the equivalent of $400.
