One winter day Em was at the outdoor rink Emerson Massonon Marlborough street (where the Bob
Turner is). He saw an auburn haired
beauty, Lil. He was so enthralled with her
he followed her home so he could talk to
her. They started to have “horse back
riding dates.” Lil would go riding around
Cornwall on Star, a horse from Herc's
stable, and Em would ride a palomino
horse borrowed from a friend and 6th

Bissonnette. “Those were wonderful C o n t i n u i n g w i t h m y t h e m e o f days”, Em said. Then Em decided to join interviewing residents to get to know them the Navy. He stayed for the required two better and for them to share their life story, years. When he was discharged he I interviewed Emerson Masson. returned to Cornwall to marry Lil. She was
only 17 years old. Em said, “I never had Em, as he likes to be called, was born in anything as a kid, but I ended up with the Cornwall in 1928. He was an only child most beautiful woman in the world.” They who was raised by a single Mom. His Dad moved to Woodstock for five years where left the family when Em was a small boy. They worked at the Cotton Mill where
Mrs. Masson worked. The team of horses
was used to haul the factory garbage and
excess viscose on wagons to the dump
twice a day. He enjoyed the horses, stable
and responsibility. Em grew up quickly.

their warm clothes – coats, toques, etc. – to

When the Masson family moved back to
Cornwall, Em took his application to
Domtar. He was hired to start the next day
as a Sealing Machine Operator. He
continued to be a Domtar employee for the
next 39 years. I asked Em what he enjoyed
doing as hobbies. He answered, “ Fishing
for perch that I sold for $3 a pound,
hunting rabbits, deer, moose and bear and
housework.”
Before I left the room Em said, “ For

Norma was born, Norma
Ann Fisher, in Montreal,
January 11, 1938. She grew
up and went to school in
V e r d u n , a s u b u r b o f
Laundry DayMontreal. She met her
Oilhusband, Ray, in 1958 and they were married SOLDin 1960. They have two children and five
grandchildren.
Norma has always been interested in art. An
uncle, who lived with her and her parents, was
a commercial artist and inspired and
encouraged Norma to pursue her love of Carrotspainting. It wasn't until 1967 that she joined the
OilVersalle Group, under the direction of Hy SOLDGallant, and started to paint seriously. An
exhibition was held every year and Norma
started to sell her paintings.
In 1986 her husband retired from the Montreal
Urban Police Dept. and they moved to their
house in Rivière Beaudette. There they stayed
until 1999 when they moved to Cornwall
Ontario. It is in Cornwall that Norma and her
husband have become active in many different
activities. They belong to the Seaway Seniors
Center and have acted in many variety shows Martintown Millincluding the Glen Productions. Norma still
