Ensuring the future of fur design through education and investment in the next generation.

Since its inception in 2007 Studio NAFA has endeavored to provide a platform for young talent, and to connect the knowledge base of the fur industry with the next generation of furriers and designers everywhere. As part of this initiative Studio NAFA has sponsored student design competitions worldwide as well as facilitated numerous student design workshops for many years.

2015 was no exception. Following two back-to-back workshops held in Toronto, Studio NAFA embarked on a whirlwind tour, holding student workshops in China, Poland, Korea and Greece under the direction of Ms. Lumin Yao, Managing Director of Studio NAFA.

In each of the workshops, Ms. Yao provides the students with a brief introduction of NAFA’s history as well as an overview of NAFA’s global endeavor to promote North American fur and fur fashion. She also provides the students with a detailed explanation of the important fur features and basic design techniques associated with each of the wild and ranch-raised furbearing species provided by NAFA. Many of the students in these workshops will go on to compete in important international fur design contests.

皮草工艺介绍成为整个讲座的亮点。众多学生在亲手感受了北美皮草以

后积极参与由NAFA赞助举行的学生皮草设计大赛。

CHINA

The Studio NAFA team began their fall schedule in China with a week-long tour of workshops as part of the NAFA Cup China International Youth Fur Design Competition. The first stop on the week-long tour was Dalian Polytechnic University, followed by workshops in Jilin, Zhengzhou, Nanchang, Shanghai, Hangzhou and Beijing. The China workshops were very popular this year, and all of the students who participated in the workshops were eager to learn and improve their knowledge of fur.

NAFA杯中国国际青年裘皮服装设计的前哨战。系列讲座的第一站首先

在大连工业大学举行。随后转战吉林，郑州，南昌，上海，杭州以及北

关于皮草原料，皮草设计以及工艺都是很多设计院校的教学空白，是学

POLAND

On September 29, 2015 Studio NAFA visited Poland for the first time. This is one of the many great outcomes of the NAFA Gala that was held in Warsaw in December 2014. The spirited initiator of this event was Dr. Joanna Satoła-Staskowiak, a teacher from the private art & design school in Łódz. Her progressive drive, with help from the Polish Fur Federation, made it possible to organize this workshop. This was the first step of NAFA Studio into this emerging market and it was very rewarding to see the enthusiasm from both students and teachers.

KOREA

In October, Studio NAFA travelled to Korea to facilitate its annual student workshop in Seoul as part of the country’s most prestigious design competition – the Joongang Design Contest. Facilitated by Lumin Yao with the help of NAFA’s Korean Marketing Director Suemi Kim, six students participated in the workshop in preparation for the final round of the Joongang Design Contest in December.

GREECE

On November 3, 2015, Studio NAFA, in association with the Hellenic Association of Furriers (HAF), hosted its fifth annual student workshop, as part of the 2016 Young Greek Designers Competition. Held at the Grand Hotel Thessaloniki, the workshop was well attended by thirty students representing three prominent Greek design schools. Helping to facilitate the workshop was Bobby Poulios, Vice President, Buyer Relations of NAFA, Vasilis Kardasis, Creative Director of Studio NAFA, and Aphrodite Zourla, an associate from the Hellenic Association of Furriers.

Finally, on November 6, 2015, twenty students representing fifteen universities worldwide arrived in Beijing as part of the NAFA Cup China International Youth Fur Design Competition. Upon their arrival, the twenty talented finalists, chosen from over one thousand submitted sketches, gathered at the COFCO building to participate in the Studio NAFA workshop kick-starting the competition.

装设计大赛决赛的选手齐聚北京中粮集团大厦，聆听进入实际制作阶段前的最后一次

皮草讲座。这些从1000多位参赛学生中脱颖而出的年轻设计师们将开始与5个中国顶

级皮草制作企业合作，生产各自的参赛作品，在2016年北京交易会期间亮相，进入决

赛的厮杀。

Given the success of these workshops, both Ms. Yao and Studio NAFA hope to inspire and enable many more students in the future to learn about NAFA furs and fur design in today’s growing global fashion industry.

NAFA furs continue to dazzle new and traditional markets

Kicking off the gala season, NAFA was invited to headline the 2015 Shangyu Fall Fur Festival with an opening night gala. The NAFA gala boasted an audience of over 200 people, all of whom were eager to see the latest NAFA furs during the gala’s fashion show. The performance showcased stunning garments from leading designers Gianfranco Ferré, Michael Kors, Guy Laroche, Bibhu Mohapatra and Izzy Camilleri featuring a variety of NAFA furs. In particular, Black NAFA, NAFA’s internationally renowned mink label, wowed the crowd along with an array of the most popular natural shades of the season.

Next Stop: Kazakhstan. 250 VIP guests gathered at the Rixos President Hotel in Astana to experience NAFA’s fur gala show entitled “Journeys”. The show’s opening video beckoning guests to soar beyond the mountain tops on a journey through the world of fur fashion captivated the audience, however it was the variety of Black NAFA and NAFA Mink garments in fresh silhouettes featured that left the audience truly awestruck.

The fashion show featured garments from some of the world’s leading authorities in fur design, including Michael Kors, Oscar de la Renta, Gianfrano Ferré, and Guy Laroche Furs. In addition, emerging creative talents including Sergey Efremov, Igor Gulyaev, Natalia Valevskaya, Avenue, Prima Donna, Maurizio Braschi, ego, Abel Furs, Langiotti, KN, EFD, Karen Rizzi, Inochi, and Via Cappella.

NAFA’s final China gala this year took place at the Glenview Hotel in Chongqing on October 31 during the China Fur and Leather Association annual meeting. The event, described as “classic and elegant”, began with a cocktail reception and buffet dinner, during which distinguished guests and members of the Chinese fur trade mingled. This was followed by an award presentation by NAFA’s Senior VP of Marketing, Rob Cahill, to NAFA’s esteemed Top Lot buyers. The highlight of the evening was a chic, upscale presentation of elegant fur creations of international prêt-à-porter designers.

裘皮时尚发布会吸引了200多位嘉宾。他们热切地期待欣赏最新一季的

布会一开场，一个展示裘皮时尚之“旅程”的视频将所有嘉宾带到了群

峰之巅， 令所有嘉宾兴奋不已。而真正为嘉宾们带来如醉如痴感受的是

Black NAFA以及NAFA Mink品牌下的众多款式新颖的水貂服装。

本次发布会共展示了来自包括Michael Kors, Oscar de la Renta,

Gianfrano Ferré和Guy Laroche Furs等国际顶级裘皮设计大师的最

新作品。同台展示的还有包括Sergey Efremov, Igor Gulyaev, Natalia

以及冷餐会招待所有来宾，中国裘皮界的重要人士纷纷光临。随后由

NAFA高级副总裁罗伯特.卡希尔先生为购买NAFA2015年度拍卖会头

把皮的买家颁发奖牌。而当国际顶级高级女装设计师们采用NAFA皮草

而推出的最新服装展示在嘉宾们面前的时候，当晚的气氛达到了高潮。

The culmination of NAFA galas took place on November 30 in Seoul, Korea. Sponsored by STV, the 7th annual Seoul Success Awards capped off another great year of fur fashion. NAFA, a long time sponsor of the event, wowed the crowd with a full spectrum of NAFA Mink and NAFA Northern luxury furs, captivating the audience and leaving guests in awe of the fabulous array of fur garments on offer under the NAFA label.

NAFA is thrilled to have shared exclusive looks from the NAFA 2015/16 Designer Collection with members of the general public and fur trade this year. As 2016 unfolds, NAFA looks forward to hosting many more spectacular galas and events, in both new and traditional markets.

The special guests of the evening were Mr. Nick Pologeorgis, owner of Pologeorgis Furs, and his wife, Alisa. Mr. Pologeorgis brought with him the exquisite NAFA Lynx Cat coat, designed by renowned American designer Zac Posen, exclusively for the store’s grand opening event.

Overall, the evening was a resounding success.

CHANGCHUN ,CHINA

On the evening of November 21, over 1000 guests, including fashion elites and fur trade VIP’s, gathered in the grand ballroom of the Shangri-la Hotel in Changchun, to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of Shulan Furs, one of the largest fur manufacturers in China and a long time partner of NAFA.

In honor of this partnership, Mr. Kevin Douse, NAFA’s Head Auctioneer, congratulated Shulan and expressed his appreciation to the brand for its ongoing commitment to fine quality furs, skilled craftsmanship, and unique, trendsetting styles.

The performance that followed showcased Shulan’s 2015/2016 collection, featuring a full array of NAFA ranched and wild furs, including dyed mink in bold, youthful colors as well as natural mink in soft whites and pearl tones, vibrant sapphires and rich, warm pastels, demi-brown and mahoganies. Also on the catwalk were a number of lavish wild fur items, such as NAFA

Closing the show was NAFA’s premium label, Black NAFA. The short, silky nap and fluid movement of these garments left guests in awe. As they moved towards the exit, many could be heard exclaiming that these were the most beautiful furs they had ever seen.

As 2016 unfolds, NAFA looks forward to exploring new cooperative opportunities and further strengthening the company’s existing partnerships worldwide.

Each summer, NAFA shoots its annual designer campaign, to showcase the finest furs in the world as well as the high-end designers working with NAFA furs.

Gracing the pages of major international fashion magazines this winter is NAFA’s new 2015-2016 Designer Campaign, featuring model Josephine Skriver. Ms. Skriver can be recognized for her work with renowned fashion and beauty brands such as Victoria’s Secret, Gucci, Max Mara, Michael Kors, and DKNY.

The full campaign, which was shot over several days in June, includes some of the world’s leading authorities in fur garment design, including Michael Kors, Oscar de la Renta, Gianfranco Ferré, and Guy Laroche Furs. Emerging creative talents joining fashion’s A-list designers are BRASCHI, J. Douu, Farley Chatto, Sergey Efremov, Natalia Valevskaya, and Igor Gulyaev.

“Although each designer brought his or her own unique inspiration to the collection, the one aspect that they all share is that each garment was produced with NAFA’s highest quality furs,” said NAFA’s Creative Director Cody Bokshowan. “We felt it was important to showcase each garment in a minimal white frame, so the design and the beauty of the furs could speak for themselves.”

The array of fur featured in the NAFA campaign reflect the ever-changing world of fashion while, at the same time, embrace the inherent grandeur of the fur itself. The same furbearers that society donned for centuries in shades of brown are now seen in colors that dazzle the eye. Sable, fisher, beaver and raccoon are brilliant in vibrant shades of blue, purple and burgundy. NAFA’s fine quality ranch mink and silver fox are the epitome of elegance in their natural tones and beguiling in fresh tints of pink, green and blue.

“The roots of our company go back some 345 years, and we wanted to include a subtle tribute to both our heritage and to the beautiful natural resources and landscapes that can be found throughout North America,” said NAFA’s Senior Vice President of Marketing, Rob Cahill. “We were delighted to find these three elements showcased in perfect synergy when we discovered a glass boathouse in the Kawartha Lakes region of Ontario, Canada. The house was actually built into the rock of the Canadian Shield surrounded by a natural forest, overlooking a beautiful lake that was once a major fur trade route for First Nations communities for hundreds of years.”

The campaign has been featured in over 80 international magazines such as Vogue, Elle, Harper’s Bazaar, Noblesse, Marie Claire, Numero and many more, in important markets including Russia, Kazakhstan, Korea, and China.
