Christians in Business RetreatTHE CHAPTEr welcomed

2013 with a bang as it held theBothehood Chistian Business

2013 in USP and in Betania reteat

House. Moe than ot (40) oma-

tion membes om Pesas Unit and

egula membes who have not et

    attended this eteat tooped to

the venue eage to listen and lean

a new teaching. BCBr is one o the

    seies o eteats that

    a omation mem-be should complete

    to become a ull-

    pledged membe o

    the communit.

    BCBr is aimed

    to give guidance to

    the paticipants in ex-

    amining thei motiva-

    tion o woking and

in leaning to discenwhat is Gods plan o

    them at wok. It also

    challenges thei no-

    tions about wealth

    and thei attitude to-

    wads it. The patici-

    pants ae also taught

    how to become

    Chistian manages

    who should be stong

to cope with the challenges in the maket; be able toput balance in thei pioities between wok, amil,

and communit; esist evil; and put Jesus as the Lod

o the wokplace. The talks wee deliveed b powe-

packed speakes who walk the talk and ae also ceti-

ed successul businessmen and poessionals. The

Caring for our people in the BCBPON TUESDAy, Janua 29, 2013, leades o the

dieent BCBP Cebu Chaptes gatheed at the SacedHeat Cente and wee blessed to have Bo. Fancis Itu-

alde as speake o a teaching entitled, CArING FOr

OUr PEOPLE IN THE BCBP. Bo. Fancis was one o the

pionees o the BCBP being pesent in that st beak-

ast in 1981. He was a ome National Diecto o Ang

Lingkod ng Panginoon and is cuentl the Administa-

to o Sevants o the Wod and a membe o the Swod

o the Spiit Communit Building Team.

He began his teaching b showing us the scip-

tual amewok o leading an action goup (Exodus 18-26) and dening what an Action Goup is in the BCBP.

This to me was ve enlightening as it showed us spe-

cicall the sciptual basis o ou stuctue in commu-

nit and how this should be govened. I ealized that

ou stuctue was not just taken om an book but was

bone out o inspiation om Sciptue.

As leades in the communit, specicall action

goup leades, we should all have a common goal to

make ou action goup be a bod whee ou membes

expeience suppot, love and cae, sevice to one an-othe, slowl gowing to be matue Chistians and be-

come leades themselves in the utue. Ultimatel, the

action goup is whee the BCBP membe is omed and

weaned into the BCBP wa o lie (cultue).

Apat om discussing Levels o Pastoal Cae,

Elements and Content o Basic Pastoal Cae, the BCBP

Commitment Cad and Was to Build Up Membes, Bo.

Fancis let us some impotant pastoal pinciples we

    could ponde on.

Chaacte, moe than git, is impotant in exe-

cising leadeship authoit. The most impotant posi-

tion in the BCBP is that o a bothe/siste. And the most

impotant unction in the BCBP is to LOVE the bothes

and sistes. As leades, we ae not to lod it ove ou

membes, but athe be caing acilitatos. We must be

models o examples moe b deeds and actions than b

wods. Pesonal cae and attention must be extended to

them. It is said that values ae caught not taught. The

HEArT o a leade moe than the skill o technical knowl-

edge o a leade would be moe impotant in buildingelationships in the goup. Go ahead and waste time

with one anothe so as to get to know each othe moe

    and deepen ou elationships.

you can onl be esponsible o something

that ou ae given authoit o. As Action Goup Lead-

es in BCBP, we have authoit as a as ou commitment

cad is concened. It is ou esponsibilit to emind ou

membes and call thei attention egading these as

thee was a commitment made. We ma onl emind

and not tell ou membes what to do because ultimate-

l, the ae to make thei own decisions. We ae not in

that level o pastoal cae whee we have ull authoit

ove ou membes. Howeve, it is ou esponsibilit to

un ate them especiall when we know that the aeoutwadl committing sin. We ma do coection but

we must st know the natue o the issue being co-

    ected.is it a matte o being ight o wong; good o

bad; pope o impope? The standads o each die

so undestanding and clait o the standads should

be clea to all paties concened. Futhemoe, good

pesonal elationships between leades and membes,

and among membes within the action goup become

    ve impotant.

you can onl give the level o pastoal caethat ou ousel have eceived, ae unde, and ae will-

    ing to be unde.

It is not an eas task to be an Action Goup

leade. Man times we would want to give up. We de-

nitel cannot do this on ou own. We will need a lot o

help om the Hol Spiit and suppot om othe lead-

es and membes o communit too. A egula Pae

and Sciptue time would be ve essential to be able to

do this task well. A pesonal elationship with Jesus is

ke to the elationship we will have with ou membes. We will neve be able to give what we do not have o

have expeienced ouselves. Ou membes will not

catch anthing i we ouselves have not caught the

    e, so to speak.

Ma it be that when we ace ou ceato and he

asks us, whee ae ou membes?..we shall answe,

Hee, Fathe, the ae ight beside me.

    Cointhians 9:7 Each one must

give as he has decided in his heat, not

    eluctantl o unde compulsion, o

    God loves a cheeul give.

    Duing the st BCBP-Cen-

    tal beakast meeting ate

    the Pablo disaste in Davao

    Oiental, the Social Action

    committee put up a simple

    sign o contibutions to the

    victims o the kille tphoon.

    The esponse was quick and

    ovewhelming. It enabled

the chapte to aise and send

    ot-thee thousand pesos

    (P43, 000) beoe Chistmas

da o the elie und and

sacks o used clothing o the

    devastated communities.

In Hebews 13:16 Do not neglect to do good and to

shae what we have, o such sacices ae pleasing to God.

While in Acts 20:35 It is moe blessed to give that to eceive.

Coe membes o the social action goup took theemeetings to plan and pepae o the logistics o the annual

Chistmas Beakast o the Homeless. Communit membes

wee so geneous in thei donations in cash and kind, even

ome membes living aboad sent two hunded dollas o

the beakast. The goup aised enough unds to include a

Chistmas teat o the Bonita Home o Gils.

Thit-ve Cebu Cental membes along with vol-

untees tooped to the Fuente Osmena plaza at ve oclock

in moning o Decembe, 30, 2012 to man the Chistmas

Beakast activit. As soon as the ood aived, evebod

took thei places in the assembl line stung goodies in thebeakast packets, at the distibution table and the cowd

contol line. Distibution stated at 6:00 am and was ove

in an hou. Goodies consisted o puso, boiled eggs, lumpia

shanghai, sliced meat loaves, apples, oanges, sliced bead,

chion cakes and unchum. Thee hunded and t (350)

    beakast packets wee given awa.

When nished, the goup cleaned up the venue in

Fuente Osmena and went to r and S restauant o a quick

beakast. One membe dopped at the neab CAMAMA

Foundation and deliveed two boxes o bead loaves . The

Foundation sends 29 ophans o vaious ages to school. The Foundation opeates solel on chait and aith. Ate

beakast, the next destination was Bonita Home o Gils.

Ate a sca ide to the top o the hill whee the

Bonita Home is located, the bothes and sistes tuned ove

    ou (4) sacks o ice, 220 kilos o pocessed meat, 3 boxes

o bead loaves, boxes o apples and oanges, Jollibee spa-

    ghetti, and hambuges.

Most o the gils wee awa at thei homes in the

povinces o the Chistmas vacation. The sistes told us that

this is the season when the could est om thei gagan-

tuan task o taking cae o close to a hunded gils. Thee

wee thit gils who emained in the cente because thei

homes wee not sae o them.

The gils sang and danced o us. Not to be out-done, we also danced o them. The climax o the aai was

the peomance o the Jollibee mascot who came with the

Jollibee meals o the gils. He delighted eveone but he

had evebod shieking and laughing when he dagged

Bo. Bill Ganet to dance gangnam stle with him.

Evebod elt good on thei wa home. This is the

magic o giving. Deepak Chopa in his blog The Jo o Giv-

ing, wites that the act o giving is enteing into a space

whee holiness esides. It opens a conduit o the kind o

happiness that no one can eve steal om ou. To God be

Its Febua and lovebids look owad to

celebate Love on Valentines Da- to expess andcelebate the spiit o love.

Valentines Da, o as it is moe omall

known, Saint Valentines Da, is celebated each

ea on Febua 14th. Along with it is the tadition

o sending pesonal messages who gained popu-

lait among love bids and such handwitten notes

o love came to be known as Valentine, a name

dawn om the signatue o Valentines last lette to

    Asteius daughte.

Anothe belie was that it was also the date

that bids began to choose thei mates, and onl

late did the omance extend to the human popula-

tion and became a time o bestowing loved ones

with gits, cads and fowes as a wa o showing

    aection.

In moden times, Valentines Da has explod-

ed in populait to become one o the most luca-tive das o the ea o etailes. Paks, estauants

ae ull with couples. Flowes, chocolates ae com-

mon gits, too. Well, thee dont have to necessail

be mateial gits, as it is a da to love, which can be

    celebated with a date, a fowe, a toast o a meal to

    simpl enew mutual love.

Although not alwas celebated in the same

wa as toda, Valentines Da has been celebated

b couples o man eas and undeneath all o the

hpe, gits ae still acknowledged as impotant o

    celebating iendships and elationships.

Eve couple has dieent was o cele-

bating this special da making sue that love is

expessed in thei unique was. Some bu lowes

o the special woman in his lie o give a special

git ove a candle-lit dinne. Natue loves take a

ide to a secluded beach at sunset and pak the

the beach, watching the sunset togethe. Themoe adventuous one sneak into his/he sweet-

heats ca while he/she is bus at wok and ill it

with oses and balloons up to the oo leaving a

love note inside. But i time o situation does not

pemit o ou to go out on a date, celebating

it at home with the kids could be a good idea,

too. Pla ou avoite love songs while having

that speciall pepaed dinne. Beoe bedtime,

ou ma also watch omantic movies in the

comot o ou oom. Some o m avoites ae

Mand Mooe), I Onl (Cast: Jennie Love He-

witt and Paul Nicholls), Sweet Novembe (Cast:

Keanu reeves and Chalize Theon), etc.

Fo those couples who ae miles awa

om each othe, celebating Valentines da is

no poblem. With simple ceativit, the, too,

can expess thei unding love o each othe
