Areas of Responsibility

Safe Ageing in Kainuu:From Old-age homes to In-home Care
• different ways of ageing, varied services:
• home services take precedence instead of big old-age homes; in-home care is provided by the municipal Kainuu Joint Authority
• besides, Kainuu is one of the regions in Finland where family members the most often provide care for a relative unable to cope with everyday activities; there’s a supporting service entity available for informal care
• the tradition of in-home caring continues also in a new semi-professional form: a family can take in some elderly or disabled persons outside the family needing help (a foster home for elderly)

Planning for a New Hospital
• The Joint Municipal Board has accepted schemes heading for a new hospital to be constructed 2015-2018
• The new hospital concept:
1. joint processes and facilities with primary health care
2. separating acute and elective care: 24/7 core hospital
2. declining inpatient care: emphasis on rehabilitation, day surgery etc.
3. standardized patient and examination rooms
4. patient self care: patient responsibility, telemedicine
