Katangiang Pisikal ng Timog-Silangang Asya

• Ang lupain ng Timog Silangang Asya

ay maaaring hatiin sa dalawang

bahagi, ang pangkontinenteng Timog

Silangang Asya o mainland Southeast

Asia at ang pangkapuluang Timog

Silangang Asya o insular Southeast

Asia.

Page 6: Katangiang Pisikal ng Timog Silangang Asya

• Ang mainland Southeast Asia ay

isang tangway na nasa pagitan ng

South China Sea at Indian Ocean.

Ang malaking bahagi ng lupaing

ito ay kabundukan at manaka-

nakang mga nagtataasang

talampas mula sa Himalayas

hanggang katimugang bahagi ng

China.

Page 7: Katangiang Pisikal ng Timog Silangang Asya

Ang mga kabundukan at

talampas nito ay siyang

naghihiwalay sa bahaging ito ng

Timog Silangang Asya sa iba

pang rehiyon. Ang lupaing ito ay

dinadaluyan ng mga ilog ng

Irrawady, Salween, Chao Phraya,

Mekong at Red River.

Himalayas

• The Himalayas,

or Himalaya, is a mountain

range in South

Asia separating the plains

of the Indian

subcontinent from

the Tibetan Plateau.

Hkakabo Razi

• Hkakabo Razi is Southeast Asia's

highest mountain, located in the

northern Myanmar state of Kachin.

It lies in an outlying subrange of

the Greater Himalayan mountain

system. The mountain lies on the

border tri-point

among Myanmar,China, and India.

Doi Chiang Dao

• Doi Chiang Dao, also known

as Doi Luang Chiang Dao, is a

2,175 m high mountain in

Chiang Mai

Province, Thailand. It is one of

the highest peaks of the Daen

Lao Range on the Thai side of

the border.

Doi Inthanon in Thailand

Page 15: Katangiang Pisikal ng Timog Silangang Asya

Doi Inthanon

• The name Doi Inthanon was given in

honour of the king Inthawichayanon,

one of the last kings of Chiang Mai,

who was concerned about the forests

in the north and tried to preserve them.

He ordered that after his death his

remains shall be placed at Doi Luang,

which was then renamed.

Salween River

• The Salween is a river, about 2,815

kilometres (1,749 mi) long, that flows from

the Tibetan Plateau into the Andaman Sea

in Southeast Asia. It drains a narrow and

mountainous watershed of 324,000 square

kilometres (125,000 sq mi) that extends into

the countries of China, Burma and Thailand.

Steep canyon walls line the swift, powerful

and undammed Salween, one of the longest

free-flowing rivers in the world.

Irrawaddy River in Myanmar

Page 19: Katangiang Pisikal ng Timog Silangang Asya

Irrawaddy River

• The Irrawaddy River or Ayeyarwady River is a river

that flows from north to south

through Myanmar (formerly Burma). It is the

country's largest river and most important

commercial waterway. Originating from the

confluence of the N'mai and Mali rivers, it flows

relatively straight North-South before emptying

through the Irrawaddy Delta into the Andaman Sea.

Its drainage area of about 255,081 km² covers a

large part of Burma. After Rudyard Kipling's poem,

it is sometimes referred to as 'The Road to

Mandalay'.

Chao Phraya River in Thailand

Page 21: Katangiang Pisikal ng Timog Silangang Asya

Chao Phraya River

• The Chao Phraya is a major river

in Thailand, with its low alluvial

plain forming the centre of the

country. It flows

through Bangkok and then into

the Gulf of Thailand.

Laos, China, Myanmar, Vietnam

(Trans- boundary River in Asia)

Page 23: Katangiang Pisikal ng Timog Silangang Asya

Mekong River

• The Mekong is a trans-boundary

river in Southeast Asia. It is the world's

12th-longest river and the 7th-longest

in Asia. Its estimated length is

4,350 km (2,703 mi), and it drains an

area of 795,000 km2 (307,000 sq mi),

discharging 457 km3(110 cu mi) of

water annually.

Red River in Vietnam

Page 25: Katangiang Pisikal ng Timog Silangang Asya

Red River

• The Red River , also known

as "Mother River”, is a river that flows

from Yunnan in southwest

China through northern Vietnam to

the Gulf of Tonkin. According to C.

Michael Hogan, the associated Red

River Fault was instrumental in

forming the entire South China Sea at

least as early as 37 million years

before present.

Insular Southeast Asia

Mayon, Pinatubo, Taal at Krakatoa. Tinatawag din ang

lugar na ito bilang circum- Pacific seismic belt.

Tinatayang 81% ng mga pinakamalalakas na lindol ay

nagaganap dito.

Gunung Korbu

• Mount Korbu (Malay: Gunung Korbu) is a

mountain in Perak, Malaysia. It is the

highest peak of the Titiwangsa Mountains,

the southernmost section of the Tenasserim

Hills.

• Mount Korbu is also the second highest

mountain in Peninsular Malaysia, standing

at 2,183 metres. The highest peak is Mount

Tahan at 2,187 metres in the state

of Pahang.

Indonesia

Page 32: Katangiang Pisikal ng Timog Silangang Asya

Carstensz Pyramid• Puncak Jaya or Carstensz Pyramid (4,884 m) is the

highest summit of Mount Carstensz in the Sudirman Range of the western central highlands of Papua Province, Indonesia (within Puncak Jaya Regency).

• At 4,884 metres (16,024 ft) above sea level, Puncak Jaya is the highest mountain in Indonesia, the highest on the island of New Guinea (which comprises the Indonesian West Papua region plus Papua New Guinea), the highest of Oceania (Australian continent), and the 5th highest mountain in political Southeast Asia. It is also the highest point between the Himalayas and the Andes, and the highest island peak in the world.

Puncak Trikora in Indonesia

Page 34: Katangiang Pisikal ng Timog Silangang Asya

Puncak Trikoya• Puncak Trikora, until 1963 Wilhelmina Peak, is a

4730 or 4,750 m (15,584 ft) high mountain in the Papua province of Indonesia on New Guinea. It lies in the eastern part of the Sudirman (Nassau) Range of the Maoke Mountains. Behind PuncakJaya (Carstensz Pyramid) at 4,884 m (16,024 ft), it is either the second or third highest mountain on the island of New Guineaandthe Australasian continent. As such it appears on some Seven Second Summits lists, although SRTM-data support that Puncak Mandala (Juliana Peak) in the Jayawijaya (Orange) Range is higher with 4,760 m (15,617 ft).

Pacific Ring of Fire• The Pacific Ring of Fire is an arc around the Pacific

Ocean where many volcanoes and earthquakes are

formed. About three quarters of the world's dormant

volcanoes and active volcanoes are here. The ring is

40,000km long, and there are 452 volcanoes.

• About 90% of the world's earthquakes and 80% of the

world's largest earthquakes occur along the Ring of Fire.

The next most seismic region (5–6% of earthquakes and

17% of the world's largest earthquakes) is the Alpide

belt, which extends from Java to Sumatra through the

Himalayas, the Mediterranean, and out into the Atlantic.

The Mid-Atlantic Ridge is the third most prominent

earthquake belt.

• The Ring of Fire is a direct result of plate tectonics and

the movement and collisions of crustal plates.

Krakatoa in Indonesia

Page 39: Katangiang Pisikal ng Timog Silangang Asya

Krakatoa• Krakatoa, or Krakatau (Indonesian: Krakatau), is

a volcanic island situated in the Sunda Strait between the islands of Java and Sumatra in Indonesia. The name is also used for the surrounding island group comprising the remnants of a much larger island of three volcanic peaks which was obliterated in a cataclysmic 1883 eruption, unleashing huge tsunamis (killing more than 36,000 people) and destroying over two-thirds of the island. The explosion is considered to be the loudest sound ever heard in modern history, with reports of it being heard up to 3,000 miles (4,800 km) from its point of origin. The shock waves from the explosion were recorded on barographs around the globe.

Page 43: Katangiang Pisikal ng Timog Silangang Asya

Mount Pinatubo• Mount Pinatubo is an active stratovolcano located

on the island of Luzon, near the tripoint of the Philippine provinces of Zambales, Tarlac, and Pampanga. It is located in the CabusilanMountains separating the west coast of Luzon from the central plains. Before the volcanic activities of 1991, its eruptive history was unknown to most people. It was heavily eroded, inconspicuous and obscured from view. It was covered with dense forest which supported a population of several thousand indigenous people, the Aetas, who fled to the mountains during the Spanish conquest of the Philippines.

Mayon Volcano

• Mayon Volcano, also known as Mount

Mayon, is an active volcano in

the province of Albay, on the island

of Luzon in the Philippines. Renowned as

the "perfect cone" because of its

almost symmetric conical shape, the

mountain was declared a national park and

a protected landscape on July 20, 1938, the

first in the country. It was reclassified a

Natural Park and renamed Mayon Volcano

Natural Park in the year 2000.

Taal Volcano• Taal Volcano is a complex volcano located on the

island of Luzon in the Philippines. It is the second most active volcano in the Philippines with 33 historical eruptions. All of these eruptions are concentrated on Volcano Island, an island near the middle of Taal Lake. The lake partially fills TaalCaldera, which was formed by prehistoric eruptions between 140,000 and 5,380 BP. Viewed from Tagaytay Ridge, Taal Volcano and Lake presents one of the most picturesque and attractive views in the Philippines. It is located about 50 km (31 mi) south of the capital of the country, the city of Manila.
